Asteroid City (2023)
Pretentious gobbledegook!
If you are looking for a story with a beginning, middle and end, a plot with optional twists, characters with an agenda and entertainment then this is not the movie for you. This amazing ensemble cast bumble through a series of scenes that seem to be pointless, boring drivel. The cinematography is first class, even Oscar-worthy, but wasted. I couldn't relate to any character and nor could I be bothered.
I have no idea why anyone would align themselves with this project. Surely reading the script would have been enough to repel? Arthouse rubbish. I imagine the only people who would pretend to like this are those trying to appear to be in possession of a high intellect. Spare yourself and go and have your toenails removed instead.
Exploration Volcano (2022)
Ummm!
I guess the warning is in the title. It's more about the team filming the volcano than it is about the actual volcano. Far to many close up shots with the film crews faces in it. The only way to watch it is with remote in hand so you can fast forward the 'guff' to get to the good stuff. There were so many interesting characters in this show but the focus was almost entirely on the narrator. It seemed a little self-congratulatory. There are so many interesting aspects of a volcano and it's effects on a populace to be explored and this show focuses too much on the narrator and team, such a shame. Next time a little less you and more them please.
The Morning Show (2019)
Bloody Botox
If you can get past Jennifer Aniston's inert lip top lip then you will enjoy the show. It's frustrating that women in Hollywood have to use fillers and Botox to the point of being barely even able to emote. There are some scenes where you are not quite sure who's top lip is actually present when you're looking at Jennifer Aniston's face, but it sure as hell isn't hers because it's doing something else or nothing at all. She really such a beautiful woman ..... why? Why should she feel the need to do this to herself? It's really all you can see when she's talking. I wish they would ban Botox, injectables and fillers entirely. This that we can see, women represented properly in their natural state.
The Secret Kingdom (2023)
Wasted special effects
Great special effects ruined by appallingly bad acting, over used plot devices, awful script, thin story and an amateurish score. Spare yourself and watch a trillion other movies that use almost exactly the same formularised story line but with better quality production values. This is a prophesy driven fantasy with a reluctant child protagonist named Peter........ sound familiar?
The special effects were really quite good, not at all in the same class as the rest of the production, which was really quite odd. When your kids put this on, you should schedule to be in any other part of the house. This is not a show for the whole family.
Babylon (2022)
Crass, messy & unwatchable
Another ego stroking Hollywood flick about an industry rife with self-indulgent, self-congratulatory and inane movies. Dear god it was painful to watch this shambolic rubbish. I was bored witless and wondered if it was worth seeing if it developed any kind of story or direction .... then gave up at the 40 minute mark. The hint that this was only ever going to be drivel was in the opening sequence when an elephant takes a very graphic dump on his handler and it was ALL downhill from there.
I am completely clueless as to how they attracted the cast to join this venture, and can only conclude that at some point they lost a bet, and were promptly strong-armed into their roles. A tragic waste of an interesting ensemble cast. This director should not write EVER!
The Northman (2022)
Wth!
Jeepers .... phoned in performances and poorly executed fight scenes but mildly entertaining. It is beautifully shot. You find it hard to not stare at Nicole Kidman's horribly filled and Botoxed face, another actress succumbing to the pressures of an unrealistic ageing ideal we all cling to and perpetuate.
