Meiken Jolie (1981)
Another goody from my youth!
This show is yet, another piece from my childhood. Like many shows I watched in my younger days, I watched this on Nickelodeon. It was about a boy named Sebastian who was trying to find his Gypsy mother who had abandoned him years earlier. He was protected by his dog Belle, whom also protected its puppy Poochie. I think there was another character as well who was a fellow Gypsy who had taken care of Sebastian since his mother left him.
This is another wonderful show of a Euro-Japanese coproduction which was evident in the 80's. Other recommendations in this sort include "Mysterious Cities of Gold", "Spartacus", and "Ulysse 31". Why these countries don't do shows together anymore is a mystery. This show gets a 10.
Hammerman (1991)
A Childhood memory I'd like to forget.
I remember seeing this show on Saturday Mornings on ABC back in the early 90's. I actually liked the show then, but I later realized how bad it was. It was a cartoon starring MC Hammer who became a super hero. I think he became his superhero identity when he hit his shoes together or something. I also recall he wore the trademark Parachute pants when he was Hammerman. It was a riduculous premise, and all in all, the show was stupid altogether. Thankfully, ABC canned it in its first season, never to be seen again. As much as I liked Hammer back in the day(like everyone else), this show certainly wasn't contributive to his career. But then again, we all know where his career went after awhile. 0/10
Taiyô no ko Esuteban (1982)
One of the greatest shows Nickelodeon has ever aired.
This show is easily a childhood memory for me. I recall watching this on Nickelodeon back in the 80's. Everything about this show was simply breathtaking. From the characters, to the storylines etc. I thought the Golden Condor was a cool ship too. I even recall dreaming about riding in it with Esteban and company! From what I hear from many, this show was supposed to be rather intense, but it was edited for Nickelodeon. Still, it was a pretty deep show at that time for Nickelodeon. The folks who made this show also did other wonderful 80's toons like "Ulysse 31", and "Spartacus"(Another show I watched on Nick). I hope they put this on DVD here soon, because I would love to see it again since it's been nearly 15 years since I last watched it.
This show gets a perfect 10!
Viva la Bam (2003)
Bam is god!
This is easily the best show that currently airs on MTV. This is a spinoff show off of Jackass starring Bam Margera who in each episode torments his parents, and does all kinds of crazy stuff along with fellow Jackass cast members such as Ryan Dunn, and Raab Himself. Overall, it's the best!
10/10
My Life as a Teenage Robot (2002)
Another show that shows how Nickelodeon has gone to hell in a handbasket.
This show like many of Nickelodeon's recent efforts is absolutely pathetic. Don't get me wrong, I tried to watch it, but it's just unbearable to do so because it's so lame. Everything about this show stinks from the animation, to the jokes, and even the premise! But what should we expect from a cartoon that originated from "Oh Yeah! Cartoons" (Which is one of the WORST shows Nickelodeon has ever aired).
Overall this show is pure crap, and once again proves how bad Nickelodeon has gotten anymore. They should stop giving all of these horrendous "Oh Yeah! Cartoons" shorts their own shows because they all stink.
This show gets no stars.
The Simpsons (1991)
A great arcade game starring the Simpsons!!!
Back in the day when I'd go to a Pizza Hut, or a Chuck E. Cheese's I'd always see this game. I only played it once or twice but now that I have an Arcade game emulator, I've every opportunity to play this game, and if you haven't, I suggest you do!
In the game Maggie is kidnapped by Smithers (who has a diamond that Maggie is sucking literally!), and the Simpsons clan has to save her!, You can play as either Homer(who uses his fists), Marge(vacuum cleaner), Bart(skateboard), or Lisa(jump rope) as you wander through 6 levels of beat em up action. Can you save Maggie from the hands of Smithers?
Overall, this game is excellent, and it is similar to the TMNT arcade game that was made several years before(Konami made that game, and they also made this game too). If your in an arcade, and see this game, I suggest you try it. It's worth the quarters, or if you have an emulator, then play it on that. It won't cost you a penny(Bless the gods of emulation)! 10/10.
Dragon Ball Z (1996)
This lump of crap is over? HOORRRAAAYYY!!!!!
Is it true? Is this stupid show finally ending? I heard that it was going to end sometime this year since another follow up would start (Dragonball GT which I hear really sucks) this fall on CN. What a relief.
Anyways, this show to me sucks for several reasons: First off the fighting sequences. It takes like 30 episodes for a single fight to start, and end. How in the blue hell can they make a fight last 30 episodes long like that? Christ Lupin the 3rd could steal 30 exotic treasures(as well as flirting on his Fuji-Cakes in between) in 30 episodes while this takes 30 episodes for ONE FIGHT!
Second, the whole hair thing. Are Goku and company Punk rock fans, or do they love having bedhead? The hair thing is so ANNOYING! Do they have hair combs on the planet they live on? Probably not.
Third, and final thing is again the fighting. It's the same cliched fighting: Punch, kick, punch, kick, punch, or Kick, punch, kick, punch, kick with their super powers thrown in for flavor. It's the same all the darn time!!!
Thank god this show is over, because now me, and many other DBZ haters won't have to gripe about it anymore....
By the way, enjoy your DragonBall GT folks, and watch it destroy the franchise. BWAAHAAHAAAHAAA!!!!
Ren & Stimpy 'Adult Party Cartoon' (2003)
Ren and Stimpy reach new(and grosser) boundaries.
Ahhhh.....Ren and Stimpy. The greatest cartoon of my youth. This was my favorite show for so long, and when John K. was rudely fired by the jerks at Nickelodeon(Which gets worse every single day), the show was destroyed thanks to Bob "Backstabber" Camp, and Nickelodeon's PC ways.
But that was then, this is now...
Now 10 years after all of those terrible things occured, John K. has his show back, and now, he can do whatever he wants with it!! Thus begins the adult side to Ren and Stimpy.
Sure, the first episode was gross(eating boogers in a spitoon with vomit as gravy), but it was somewhat funny. I do believe the whole "Having R&S being gay" is a bit much(It's not really a good thing to do to these characters. Not that being gay is bad or anything).
However, things haven't changed for the chihuaua, and his cat companion. Ren is still an a-hole, and Stimpy is still an eediot, the only thing that has changed is that now, they're going to be in a lot more adult situations.
Overall, I think this is a HUGE step for Ren and Stimpy, and besides, if you think the show is gross, don't watch it.
P.S. I sort of think that having a sequel to "Fire Dogs" wasn't necessary, but I guess John K. did.
Rupan sansei: Part II (1977)
My favorite anime.
I'm not a huge fan of anime, but for some reason, I love Lupin. Ever since it premiered on Adult Swim back in January, I've gotten a huge liking for it. Plus, it's so darn entertaining!!!
The cool thing about this show is how Lupin, and company in each episode always encounter a bad guy who may have something involved with what they're after. Of course to add more trouble is the restless Interpol inspector Zenigata whose been after Lupin for 7 years. In between these factors is off the wall antics, sexual themes, and lots, and LOTS of cleavage(courtesy of Fujiko).
Overall I like the show. It's pretty appealing, and it won me over from day one. If you've never seen this show, I suggest you check it out. You may like it.
P.S. Fujiko is HOT for a cartoon!
The Banana Splits Adventure Hour (1968)
Shear Genious.
I caught this on Cartoon Network's "Boomerang" preview about 2 weeks ago, and since it was my first time seeing it, I knew I was in for a treat since this was one of Hanna-Barbera's memorable shows. This show has live action(The Bannana Splits, Danger Island which was on the episode I watched. Got to admit, it rocked), animation(Arabian Nights, The Four Muskateers). What a concept this was!! It's a shame it didn't last at least 5 years because this show was pretty good. Plus, it featured Michael Vincent (now known as Jan-Michael Vincent). Another fact was that Richard Donner("Lethel Weapon") directed the episodes. Quite interesting.
This gets a perfect 10.
Fred and Barney Meet the Thing (1979)
Another really pathetic Hanna-Barbera show.
Don't get me wrong a LOT of Hanna-Barbera's shows are GREAT! But it's garbage like this that they made that ticks me off. Who in the hell thought that having "The Flinstones", and "The Thing" of "Fantastic Four" fame in an hour long show would be a good idea? It has to be the STUPIDEST thing they ever did!! Sure, they didn't have the Flinstones, and the Thing on at the same time(THAT would've been REALLY bad!), but still, it's bad overall.
The bottom line: Stay away from this show unless you want to see how bad, and mediocre a Hanna-Barbera show can be!
Fred and Barney Meet the Shmoo (1979)
Hanna-Barbera continues to prove that beating your classic shows to the ground is a real bad thing.
Like many of the HB shows I've reviewed, I saw this on Cartoon Network's "Boomerang" block. This show can be easily described with one word: BAD!!! That's what I think about this show. Anyways, here's the scoop: This show was still "Fred and Barney Meet The Thing"(Even then, it was bad), but they added another sketch with this bell shaped glob called "The Shmoo" (Okay....That's REALLY insane!) who solved crimes with these reporters(How many times has HB used the "Solving Mysteries" concept over the years?). This show was so utterly painful. I had to turn it off not too long into it.
Overall, this show is an atrocity, and continues to show how Hanna-Barbera beats their creations to the ground. Avoid this show at all costs! It's a disgrace to see our beloved "Flinstones" characters become mockeries with this awful show.
This gets no stars.
American Playhouse: Overdrawn at the Memory Bank (1983)
This movie has it all...
Raul Julia, a fat guy, a Peter Laurie ripoff, and a HUGE hatred for anteaters. Yep this movie (with the exception of Raul Julia of course) was very bad. The acting (with the exception of Raul Julia AGAIN) was awful, the plot as a whole was really bad, let alone figure what it was about. I was confused plotwise, but I really didn't seem to care since I saw this on MST3K. Mike, and the bots did what I must admit was probably at their finest. The MST3K episode was a shear laugh riot, and I almost wet myself from laughter, let alone laughing so hard that I thought I ruptered something.
This movie gets no stars, but the MST3K episode gets a 10!
The Dudley Do-Right Show (1969)
Cartoon Network bring this back!!!
Dudley Do-Right first appeared on "Rocky and Bullwinkle" back in the early 1960's (timeless TV), and just like all of the other sketches on that show, it was a riot. and probably the 2nd best of them all (behind "moose and squirrel" which of course is Rocky and Bullwinkle).
For those who don't know about this show (I feel bad for those who don't) the show stars Dudley Do-Right an inept Canadian mounty who protected his Canadian province back around the turn of the century (circa 1900's that is). He had a boss Inspector Fenwick who was as idiotic as Dudley. Fenwick also had a daughter Nell whom Dudley without a doubt had a crush on (If you think about it), but however, Nell had a crush for Dudley's horse who was simply named "Horse". And of course there was Snidley Whiplash who was the villian.
This show also had a few other sketches as well. There was "The Adventures of King Leonardo" which was about a lion king named Leonardo, and his assistant named Odie Kaloney (yes that's his name) who lived in Bongo Congo. The sketch followed the 2 as they foiled the plans of Biggie Rat, and Itchy Brother (whom was King Leonardo's brother, which is why he's named Itchy Brother!). Another sketch was "The Hunter" which was about a master detective canine who could be the Foghorn Leghorn of animated dogs. And last but not least, the best out of the three: "Commander McBragg". This short skectch featured the title character who would tell stories of how he discovered the extrodinary, as well as new lands. Sometimes his stories were made up, but some of them were true.
Overall, a very great spinoff show (and the ONLY ONE) off "Rocky and Bullwinkle". Cartoon Network used to air it a while back, but they don't anymore (last time I saw it was last year). They should bring this back!!
Baby Looney Tunes (2001)
Very cute show.
Frankly, I'm really mad at all of those who have bashed this show with bad reviews. "Baby Looney Tunes" is to me, a really good show. The show features our beloved "Looney Tunes" characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Taz, and Lola Bunny (from "Space Jam" for those who don't know) as babies. Each episode features one, or some of the little tykes getting into a situation, but in the end, their nanny (If you want to describe it that way) Granny (BRILLIANT!!!) helps solve the problem that the little tykes got into.
Overall, I like the show. I think it's cute, and I think it's great to see our "Looney Tunes" characters shown as babies. Sure some will say it rips off "Muppet Babies" (A GREAT show from my youth), but so what? This show's great!!
This gets a 10/10.
Monster Farm: Enbanseki no himitsu (1999)
Just as bad as "Pokemon", and "Digimon".
I don't care if people criticize me or not on my viewpoint of this show or not, I'm just going to say it right off the bat: THIS SHOW SUCKS!
That's what I said. I think this show sucks. It's based on the "Monster Rancher" game made for Playstation (once more they're trying to make more money off of another dumb fad). Anyways, this show stars this kid who I believe gets sucked into the world of "Monster Rancher" when he was PLAYING the game!!! Anyway, he befriends this girl, and all of these really dumb monsters like characters like that eyeball creature, and the rock guy. Of course, that's an improvement from the other 2 stupid shows like "Pokemon", and "Digimon", but still I think the so-called "Monsters" on this show are stupid.
Overall this show stinks and it gets a 0/10.
Digimon: Digital Monsters (1999)
I don't care if came before Pokemon or not, I still think it sucks.
WHY Oh why do they keep making all of these STUPID anime's based on fad's from Japan? I HATED "Pokemon", and I hate this just as much. Why you ask, well here we go...
First off, it's based on a huge fad from Japan. The only reason they made this is only to make money off of it. Second of all, the Digimon are UGLY. They're soooo poorly drawn, and some of them are just stupid. And what's up with all of them with their names ending with "mon"? Can't they have some originality name wise? And the kids on the show are ANNOYING too!
I'm just totally sick, and TIRED of all of this crappy rubish coming from Japan they're making anymore. Please, get this, and Pokemon off the air. They stink!
This gets a 0/10.
O Canada (1997)
Very, very good show.
"O Canada" is a very wonderful 30 minute program which features some of the greatest Canadian cartoons out there. They all are so different. Some are informal, some are weird, and some are bizarre. But hey, they're enjoyable to watch. Plus, this show also introduced the states to the soon to be series "Bob and Margaret" with the acclaimed "Bob's Birthday" short.
I must give Cartoon Network a TON of credit. They have a great show here. One that introduces viewers to Canada's amazing animated work. Overall, this gets a perfect 10!
Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988)
The best NES game ever!!
Out of the 3 "Super Mario Bros." games made for the NES, this one is hands down the best one. What can I say? This game is AWESOME!! All new enemies, cool new power-ups (like the Tanooki Suit, Hammer Bros suit, Raccoon, and Frog power-ups), warp whistles, and 8 different worlds. What more could you want? Overall, a superb game.
This gets a perfect 10!
Zaat (1971)
Also known as "Blood Waters of Dr. Z" (Minor spoiler of the MST3K episode in my summary)
Like everyone else who has commented, I saw this turkey on MST3K. The movie is about an evil scientist named Dr. Z who transforms himself into a fish-like monster which is his "plan" to take over the world. Unfortuantly for him, this movie as well as his attempt for world domination is just pathetic. Also added is lousy acting, and you have yet another bad flick on your hands.
This movie was truly bad. Thank god I saw this on MST3K. I would have gone crazy if I saw this without Mike and the bots.
"Saphogus, the weed of deceit" - Dr. Z
The Ripping Friends (2001)
God bless Cartoon Network for giving this GREAT show a second chance.
What can I say? God bless the folks at Cartoon Network for giving this another chance after it was canned by the PC, anime hungry (sick isn't it?) folks at Fox. The cartoon is about a group of superheroes (Crag, Slab, Chunk, and Rip) who want to rip (or in other words destroy) all that stands in the way of freedom. Other characters include Jimmy, and the Ripping Friends foster mom He-Mom LOL!!!
Overall, John K., and Spumco have yet another winner on their hands. Sure it'll never capture the greatness of "Ren & Stimpy" but it's still an excellent, yet strange show.
This gets a 10/10.
Track of the Moon Beast (1976)
Only see it on MST3K.
Once again, I got the pleasure to see another awful film thanks to MST3K (and watching it being bashed as well which of course is good). In this movie, a guy discovers a rock which has just fallen to earth, and every time there's a full moon, he turns into this murderous beast. This movie has it all, a bad plot, bad acting, and worst of all, a music group that sings this really terrible song called "California Lady" GAG!!!
This movie overall is bad. The only way to see it is on MST3K. Mike and the bots did a good job riffing this one.
Kennywood Memories (1988)
A very great documentary about one of the greatest amusement parks ever!!
Sure the documentary is extremely dated today (since Kennywood has changed so much since it was made) "Kennywood Memories" is one of my favorite documentaries made by WQED's Rick Sebak (who also made quite a few others as well). The documentary showcases the rich history of the amusement park in West Mifflin, PA from its inception in 1898 to at what was then the present (1988). I love watching this documentary so much! It makes me look forward to going to Kennywood every summer (I live about 30 minutes away from the park!).
If you love Rick Sebak's excellent documents on Pittsburgh related stuff like me, then check out "Stuff that's Gone", "Things that aren't there anymore", and many others. You'll like them too.
The Giant Spider Invasion (1975)
One giant spider + Alan Hale + bad acting = Crap!
Once more, I managed to see yet another piece of crappy, old 1970's drive-in garbage courtesy of MST3K. What more can I say? This movie has it all: Lousy acting, a giant spider (and it's the ONLY ONE IN THIS FILM!!!), and Alan Hale. What could possibly be any worse? I was expecting Bob Denver to cameo as in this turkey since "The Skipper" was in it. Hey, it COULD happen!!
Overall, this movie is just like many other awful movies. Just plain bad!! Only watch this on MST3K.
Uchû Kaisokusen (1961)
Makes "Prince of Space" look like a masterpiece, and that's saying a LOT!
Sure, I thought "Prince of Space" was a TERRIBLE film, but after seeing "Invasion of the Neptune Men", well, that changed. This movie's even WORSE than "Prince of Space" to me. Why you ask? Well let's see...
First off, all of those annoying kids running around in a group wearing shorts. I just wanted to go berserk after a while of listening to those annoying, dubbed voices.
Second of all, Krankor doesn't appear in this movie. He was the only good point of "Prince of Space", and not having him in this film only made it worse (who didn't like that evil laugh that Krankor did).
Third of all, The stock footage. They used the same stock footage scenes so much in this movie. It was just aggrivating after awhile.
and fourth of all... no Prince of Space! Sure, he was a lame hero in the self titled previous film, but this new hero sucked.
The movie overall is god awful. Mike and the bots did a great job bashing this piece of cheese from Japan. I suggest to anyone who wants to see this to check it out on MST3K. The only non-painful way to endure this.
