I wasn't familiar with Taylor Sheridan's work, but I love Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm. It started out entertaining enough, and if the statistics BBT throws out in the first scene are accurate, it could've hooked me. I like the perspective the series takes, but I don't think I can finish it. Sheridan appears to have a real issue with women. The daughter is 28 going on 12 but is supposed to be 17. Don't even get me started on the mother. The male characters are mostly pretty interesting, but his characterizations of these women are so flat, stereotypical, unrealistic and cringey that I can't watch it. Might give Lioness a chance just to see if it's more of a problem with the show than with Sheridan, but I'm doubting it right now.
I started watching it because of Lauren Morelli, and didn't expect much since I'm not exactly the target audience. But it was so fun and entertaining while also being pretty deep and touching. The humor was on point the entire time. Little things, like how consistently Blair drove their car badly never failed to be funny. And there were some really great plot twists, too, especially towards the end. I am so totally bummed that this show wasn't renewed. It had a lot of potential for a great second season and it's too bad they didn't get a chance to build on it. Great cliffhanger at the end of the last episode, shame it ended there.
I liked this show pretty quickly and strongly disagreed with the disses. Vince Vaughn is charming as ever, even though they've got him babbling like an idiot a little too much. And they *really* need women in the writers' room (if they've got one). But Bad Monkey is highly entertaining with a crazy (if often stereotypical) cast of characters and an unpredictable plot. So I was super disappointed in this episode's ending. Makes no sense, it was rushed with several out-of-character moments and highly implausible events, all to serve what is now a ridiculous story line. If what happens is what I think is going to happen to one of the characters, that'll be it for me. It's looking like it's going to be trite but I really hope I'm wrong.
