Chances Are, You and I (2024)
Average. Trying to replace KathNiel
Fault In Our Stars meets First Love (jap). First off, I gave it 30 mins and fell asleep. A love story with 2+ hrs run time? That should tell you how slow the build up is. There are uncessary scenes and dialogs just to sound witty. Most of the time a scene takes about 5 to 10 mins talking nonsense that doest forward tue plot. Again slow build up. It's obvious how and why they picked the actors. If KathNiel starred in this movie it would've been executed perfectly. In the first few minutes you can clearly see they are trying to copy/replace KathNiel. The girl's acting is okay however as the movie progressed you can see Kathryn Bernardo. The haircut and the smile and how the angle. The guy? Regardless if it's his real voice, he was trying to be Daniel Padilla. Nothing wrong with replacing the missing spot which is up for grabs. Although I had several theories of the ending I wasn't able to prodict this. Then again it's a simple ending thst reminded me with First Love (jap series) which you should watch.
The First Slam Dunk (2022)
As an anime fan and a baller, this is perfect!!
When I saw the trailer I didn't like the anime. Growing up and watching 90s anime you would want the traditional animation. I thought it would end up like the rebooted Vash Stamped. Man I was so happy I was wrong. At first I was surpised why the story was centered around that character. He wasn't the main and it came to me that he didn't get to have an actual back story compared to others. It all make sense since since it's difficult to build a story around the other players. They added perfectly added drama to the story. It's engaging. Of course the typical shenanigans of Sakuragi and Lukawa is always there. I could not predict the ending. Although I was able to guess some plays but the ending? Poetry!!! I'm surprise why others rate this below 9. Rotten tomatoes gave this 100%. It's a must watch. Don't miss this. It's fun and made it more realistic.
Yeon-in (2023)
Eazy 9. I love it and I'm sure you will.
I didn't know who the actors/actresses and was intrigued with the hight rating so I gave it a try and I'm glad I did. Ep1 might start slow but towards the end of episode it will soon catch up. If you love your Kdrama love story and sword fights then this is a must for you. It has your typical humor and romance however it is sooooo natural, the actors played it very well. You will love the characters and you will hate some as well and it's because it's so convincing. However, I only have one complain but it's primarily because I'm not familiar with the history of Korea. I had to google why these people did this and what's going on, etc. Aside from that it's an easy 9.
The Descent (2005)
This is the best horror film in 2024
You might ask why 2024? It's 2024 and so far recent horror films are so predictable and so much cgi that it's not even scarry anymore. So I had to search for older movies that doesn't use cgi and jump scares when you least expect it. The Descent is both scary and entertaining. If you traditional jumpscares which is executed perfectly then this is the movie for you. I so wish we can go back to these types of horror films. No dumb characters and no dumb plots. There is The Descent 2 and based on the review it not good so I didn't decide to watch it. I liked my theory of the ending rather than the part 2. Give this a try and you won't regret it.
Banjjagineun Woteomellon (2023)
Lovable but I've seen better
The characters are lovable and they played their part well. You'll fall in love with the main cast and hate the villains. It's a time travel romcom but this doesn't focus on the technically of time travel but rather the simple "if you change some things in the past you change the future" kind of thing. I did not read the details and trailer and just straight up watch this series. I was disappointed after finding out this is a time travel movie since I just finished watching "A Time Called You". Honest take, it is way better than this. I just don't get the very high rating. Probably because I saw A Time Called You first and thought it was brilliant. It's like you're coming in expecting part 2 of a movie to be better than the first however for this series it's not. It was dragging. A Time Called You only had 12 eps. This series has 16 eps but lots of filler scenes. Don't get me wrong, it's fun but this just doesn't deserve a 9 to me.
Doona! (2023)
Misunderstood ending. Watch the start of the episodes and you'll understand what really happened after ep9
This show is so brilliant. Got me hooked after from episode 1. The character build up pace is perfect although you will hate their decision making and will ask "why". You have to consider the age and personality of the characters. People complained about the ending. I did too, so I googled it and found a more clear explanation NO SPOILER I PROMISE. After you finish the show, go back to the start of each episodes, some episode will give you a clue how it ended. If you don't get it then another clue would be "how to they usually meet?". I hated it so much when I finished because it did not give me a desirable ending as what other KDramas do and was ready to rate this at 1. Yes I was totally invested in this show. But I just missed vital detail. I just hoped they made it clearer though. Doona's facial expression should tell you when she looked back.
Yu yu hakusho (2023)
Solid 8 for a tv-series
Bad parts: Ok first, name another martial arts tv series with that much action. I promise you, you can't name 3 or maybe there is none. Second before you even consider watching IF you already watch/read the anime/manga, have an open mind that this ONLY has 5 episodes. Based from the trailer they are trying to fit it with those few eps from start to Tugoro arc even the Dark Tournament. If you haven't seen the anime then you'll enjoy this as a standalone with few questions about the characters. They did try their best to make an arc based on several story arcs and most of it actually connects. Some scenes which I think has emotional values were not there and some character development is little to none. But, they are trying to answer the main questions you will possible have on the characters.
Good parts:
As I've said the fight scenes mixed with good fx are so satisfying and by far this is better than OP(maybe I could be bias). Most of the fight sequences were taking by one shot. The angles and the choreography is top tier which makes you think that this could be a full length film. They made it as realistic as possible, meaning it's a horror + action genre.
Another good thing is, they actually made this possible. An anime about powers, monsters, actions, etc has been made into a LIVE ACTION!!! We didn't think this was possible with the failure of DBZ evolution, Chun Li, and other Live Action adaptations (Bleach was ok though). Making live actions for HxH, Naruto, etc...
So yeah, have an open mind and let's hope we can get a second season with more eps next.
Extraction 2 (2023)
Great but first one is better. Read why.
Honest review, first one is better. Not saying this is a bad film. It's just that the first film left audiences in awe that this came in with high expectations. Everything is average after the action packed one shot sequence (wow and wow!!!). The action and hype died down towards the end. Story wise it would make sense but action movies always end like Michael Bay (explosions) directed it. It was predictable most of the time. Thankfully they left the audience with something to look forward to. I'm guessing they might add a 90s action star. Sly is in another network (Paramount), so maybe Arnold (Netflix). Would I watch the 3rd? Absolutely, ending got me interested.
Smile (2022)
Problems with horror movies? Ending
Same problems with most horror films is that how they will end it. I didn't care if it's a The Ring-ish film, you can tell just by watching the trailer. Anyways, the monster riuned everything. The jumpscares did get me but I was laughing at the face of the monster. Should've stayed simple or mysterious. The way the monster got into Rose was unnecessary. How it ended was bland. I had high hopes with how the story folded even though the story is similir to some films. Predictable yes sometimes but still will keep you guessing. Overall it's a fun film but wasted it with its ending or could've ended it in another way.
Purple Hearts (2022)
Had my expectations very low and the movie did not disappoint.
Acting is so-so. Some conflicts are forced However, the ending is not what you expect but did deliver. Could've been better with better dialogs but I guess I watched too many Nic Sparks movies. It's enjoyable. The guy being a marine did give insights of their emotions which I would say made the biggest impact in the movie. Overall it's great but it's not something you will remember.
Scream (2022)
Back acting and characters with dumb choices
First off main character (Sam) only has one face, her acting is so below average. It's like she always need to look pretty in every scene. Tara is and the boyfriend only has better acting. Environment variables doesn't exist. Like how in the world are no people around a neighborhood? Nobody noticed the police siren? How can a petite girl overpower a grown man? How can a hospital be empty? It's a dumber version of a cheap movie. We all know the line "that's how people die in horror movies"? This is worse. Dialog is cheap. Only great are the effects. This is sad....
Gyeongiroun Somun (2020)
Inconsistent killed the it for me.
Spoiler alert. When Mun's leg was healed they said they can only do that because he was a counter but she healed the students broken bones anyway. When he tried to summon Sin (supposedly they are 3x stronger than humans and inside their territory which makes it 5x) and then a small kid tackles him? I could be nitpicking but these small details are important. It felt like they were extending it or poor execution of a plot twist.
Mortal Kombat (2021)
Mortal Kombat or Power Rangers?
Seriously. I'm very disappointed. After all the hype this is it? The intro is the only thing that's great and thar's it. At some point I thought I was watching Power Rangers (the lair). Here are few things that annoyed me
1. Why is it so bright? Almost every scene has excessive lighting. It looked like a cheap tv show where they don't care about proper lighting. Alley, cave, evil lair - these should be dark places but it looked like it was from Teletubbies.
2. Sonya Blade - Special Forces??? What? She can't even handle a gun properly. Clearly they did not put extra effort on that detail.
3. Liu Kang? What happened to him? He looked and moves like a dancer than a fighter.
4. Your soul is Mine. Now this line is iconic and they should know it. However they said it like it was some normal line.
5. Plot is \(x_x)/
6. It's Mortal Komtab fight to the death. Best of the best to defend the earthworld. Bruh! It was more like practice sparring except in Scorpion scenes.
May it's because of the budget or they were just confident with the sfx. SFX was good I give them that but that's all there is.
Through Night and Day (2018)
Saw how it ended in less than 10 minutes while Im playing on my phone.
The movie did what it wanted to do to viewers. Cry. Does it automatically means its a great film? Not exactly. It was saved by great acting on all parties. It had its moments but the rest was too predictable. The ending reminds me of another pinoy movie. Some scenes were like skits you see in an abs/gma teleserye. I honestly enjoyed it but just disappointed with how simple the story is.
Enter the Anime (2019)
A Narrator/Director who obviously doesn't have any interest to anime. Lets Star with that.
If I can rate this -5 I would. First, it's clear that the director doesn't even watch anime. Plus it was narrated by Tania Nolan. Get a grip on how pretentious this is? Its a big Netflix Ad wanting to get people to watch their anime listing. Me and my daughter got so excited and didn't even check the ratings (like we usually do). Why? The title is catchy. But that's about it.We tried to stay positive, maybe just maybe they'll interview some big names or voice actors. But wasted 50+ minutes for nonsense. The director of the Baki copied Anime by Netflix even said something like: "Fighting is uncommon in animation... Its unique...." like WHAT???? Most anime are about fighting. Why? Because its the only venue where you can see impossible fights happen!!! They acting like they are so proud or something. Castlevania??? He said he was from the future! We'll you could've made more successful films if you already knew what happens in the future. Plus he talks more about how good he is, his fashion, his dog, etc... 🙄Its not an anime, its not even an intro about anime.. Plus i didn't even hear the word Cosplay! Seriously? If you want to get disappointed then go ahead and watch this netflix ad. If not then stay away. Please!!!!! Ohhh There are better vids in youtube about Japan than this amateur ad.
Locke & Key (2020)
4 because of just one episode
I just don't understand why an athlete cant overpower a female villain. They just watch like they wanted it to happen. Characters just went from cool to stupid.
Still watching it though. I'll update the rating if anything good or worse happens.
