B. Monkey (1998)
Read the book
The movie was good, but the style and pace of the book was what sold me on the story in the first place. I saw the movie because I liked the book, which is usually a bad idea. The movie wasn't out for a long time after I read the book, but they kept hyping it, so by the time the film finally came out, I had such high hopes!! Overall, I would recommend it to people who like the genre, but please, READ THE BOOK!
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)
Very underrated
One of the most underrated movies I've seen in a long time, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is the second hilarious adventure of Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan, aka Wyld Stallyns. There are two ways to look at this film: First, you see dumb dialogue, far fetched plot, juvenile idea. OR.. You see brilliantly downplayed idiots who yet again find themselves in a situation too big for their brains. Throw a Bruce Willis or a Arnold Schwarzeneggar into this plot and it becomes a big blockbuster movie. Bill and Ted go into the story with the same level of sincerity, only it's Bill and Ted. This is a tricky fence to balance on, but when you watch the movie not as a throwaway screwball comedy, but as an adventure featuring two guys who have no business being in an adventure, it becomes so much more.
Die Hard with a Vengeance (1995)
The best of the trilogy
Die Hard with a Vengeance was an excellent film. Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson have great chemistry and WILL work together again. This movie pumped new blood into the Die Hard series, after the less than stellar performance of Die Harder, with the tie-ins from the first movie and the new characters and intriguing way the two leads interacted solving puzzles and running around New York to beat the clock.
Die Hard 2 (1990)
Least favorite in the trilogy
For a long time I considered Die Hard 2 to be a lame sequel with none of the originality of the first one. I now own the collectors trilogy and having watched it again, I feel like calling it unoriginal is unfair to the trilogy, since they're all SUPPOSED to be along the same vein.. otherwise it wouldn't BE a sequel. It would be like saying, "Well, Empire Strikes Back was a dumb movie because they used lightsabers and the force in the FIRST one!"
I'll still say Die Harder (I can't believe they called it that!) is the WEAKEST link in the trilogy, but in it's own right it stands as a pretty darn good action flick.
A Life Less Ordinary (1997)
Not your ordinary flick
A Life Less Ordinary has it ALL. I am a sucker for great soundtrack music... Not just good songs by well known artists.. I mean music that enhances the film, that in some cases even MAKES the film work. A Life Less Ordinary (ALLO) does this so well. The use of contemporary hits, old classic tunes, all adding to the plot of the film. The karaoke scene, the scene in the woods... Aside from the music, the actors hit their mark exactly. Special kudos to Ewan McGregor and Holly Hunter. Their characters are some of the most entertaining I've seen in a long time, and I've seen A LOT of movies! The story is sort of a cheesy one, that angels have to prove the human race is worth saving, love conquers all, etc... But you HARDLY notice that as it fades between main story and subplot, so you just want to have everything work out, rather than wonder where the story is supposed to be going. I highly recommend this movie. See it once, and if you disagree with me, well, drop me some e-mail and we can discuss things... heh heh..
Akira (1988)
Not much of an Anime fan...
BUT... having said that, I LOVE Akira. The story is intense, the artwork brilliant. I just picture the regrown arm scene and I want to watch it again. This movie and Ghost In The Shell are the two best Anime films I've ever seen. I recommend them both.
