I only watched this on Hulu. So I'm sure it was out before I ever heard of it. With that being said, when I saw a gingerbread bake off I was excited to see beautiful gingerbread houses, and to get into the Christmas spirit. Instead, it is more like EVERY OTHER BAKING SHOW. Where the focus seems to be on big elaborate massive structures that are COOL! but completely lack the spirit of Christmas in their pursuit to be cool. I really wanted this show to be able beautiful Christmas gingerbread houses, filled with creativity that I could perhaps incorporate at home when I make one of my own to display over the holidays, but many of the things job see aren't even houses. Christmas themes are largely ignored and the judges barely seem to notice. I find the whole show LARGELY lacking in gingerbread houses.
Also, am I the only one who is getting tired of reality shows that are suppose to be about something beautifully crafted using the clock as an adversary? I would LOVE to see a show that gives ample time to complete a project so I, as the viewer, would get the benefit of seeing beautiful work. 2 hours to craft these massive structures with a surprise thing to bake, barely seems like enough and almost all the contestants struggle with making everything planned in the time allotted. As a result the work is lackluster. Things are left unfinished and cracked, or broken. Items are left off the build because they ran out of time. This adds to the disappointment for me. As a viewer I do want to see interesting things. It does not contribute to my experience to see so many muddled plans. The visuals suffer because of this and that is disappointing. My overall opinion was it wasn't very good.
