Florence Pugh opens up about her experience in the Hollywood industry and says it could be “really exhausting,” especially for young women.
In a new interview, the Oppenheimer star shared why there are hardships in the movie industry and why she’s encouraged to raise her voice.
“There are fine lines women have to stay within,” Pugh told The Times. “Otherwise they are called a diva, demanding, problematic. And I don’t want to fit into stereotypes made by others. It is really exhausting for a young woman to just be in this industry, and actually other industries. But I’ve always been encouraged to have a voice.”

Eric Bischoff helped change the game of pro wrestling. As executive producer and senior vice president of World Championship Wrestling (WCW), he took the company to new heights with big moves that shook up the industry. Among them turning Hulk Hogan bad to lead the New World Order (nWo), leveraging celebrity involvement including Dennis Rodman and Jay Leno, and making Monday night appointment television with the flagship live show WCW Nitro. After the once Ted Turner-owned promotion was bought by Vince McMahon and shuttered, Bischoff continued to do the unexpected joining the once rival WWE as an onscreen character working alongside “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. He’d also bring his wealth of knowledge as an executive producer for Tna Wrestling. That’s not even counting the success he had in the reality TV realm with his business partner Jason Hervey of The Wonder Years fame. Today it seemed Bischoff...

Two years ago, we brought you the news that Florence Pugh had signed on to star in a new adaptation of East Of Eden, John Steinbeck's 1952 literary epic. In the time since the project — a seven-part Netflix limited series written by Zoe Kazan (The Big Sick) — was first announced, Christopher Abbott has joined the show's cast and Pugh's star has continued to rise with winning turns in the likes of The Wonder, Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two. And now we're getting an exciting new casting announcement for the series as Netflix has officially greenlit the project. Per Deadline's reporting, Challengers star Mike Faist has joined the ensemble, and whilst earlier indications suggested he will be playing Cal Trask, the part James Dean famously played in Elia Kazan's 1955 movie, it looks instead like he'll be playing the novel's Cain figure, Charles, instead.

One of the worst kept secrets in Ireland’s film and TV sector has been official confirmed by the local industry body — that the second season of “Wednesday” is now shooting in the country.
The hit Netflix show — produced by MGM Television — became a smash hit in 2023, with season one (which shot in Romania) amassing more than 250 million views and winning four Emmys. It was revealed late last year that the second outing would be shifting production to County Wicklow in Ireland.
But for Screen Ireland, which has helped welcome countless major films and TV shows — including the likes of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” — to its shores since it was re-launched in 1993 (as the Irish Film Board), “Wednesday” marks the “largest production to ever film in Ireland” in terms of production spend.

The new spinoff from The Big Bang Theory must avoid the canon issues that plagued Young Sheldon. The third spinoff should not be a prequel, allowing for more storytelling freedom and less canon contradiction. The next spinoff could bring back the look and feel of the original show, giving viewers a more nostalgic experience.
The news that there will be a third spinoff from The Big Bang Theory gives the shows creators a chance to avoid a problem that Young Sheldon and its follow-up faced. By all measures, Young Sheldon is a successful sitcom spinoff. The family comedy consistently earns high ratings, is well-liked by fans of the original series, and has made Young Sheldons cast of characters as memorably funny as the original shows heroes. However, the show does have one issue that plagues not only Young Sheldon but also its upcoming spinoff, which focuses on Sheldons brother Georgie and his wife Mandy.

But as she gathers the courage to share her story, she unexpectedly becomes a central figure in the movement. But as she gathers the courage to share her story, she unexpectedly becomes a central figure in the movement. Florence Pugh's impressive Rotten Tomatoes audience streak may be at stake with Marvel's Thunderbolts project in 2025. Pugh has shown versatility in various movie genres, from action to drama, maintaining consistent success and critical acclaim. Dune: Part Two showcases Pugh's star power, as she makes an impact with minimal screen time, boosting audience interest.
Appearing in 16 movies since 2016, Florence Pugh has sustained an impressive audience Rotten Tomatoes streak that could yet be jeopardized by Marvel's 2025 Thunderbolts movie. Dune: Part Two has scored another critical hit for the Princess Irulan actress, with Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic sitting at an impressive audience score of 95% (alongside a critical rating of 94%). While this would be an impressive achievement in isolation, it actually reflects a wider trend for Pugh that she will be keen to sustain.
An impressive fact of Pugh's film career is the Oxford-born actress's commitment to a variety of different movies and genres.

Florence Pugh’s portrayal of Princess Irulan (an important character from the book) is also receiving praise. Pugh joining Dune: Part Two was a thrilling addition, bringing another talented rising star to the film.
After portraying psychiatrist Jean Tatlock in Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer, she landed a role in another big blockbuster of this year. It seems like Pugh’s mother’s motivation keeps her focused.

This post contains spoilers for "Eileen." Seriously. If you haven't seen the movie yet, please check it out and then return to this article.
I fell hard for "Eileen" when I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with director William Oldroyd to mark the film's wide release. This is his second feature film, and he's now made two movies about young women who feel restricted by the worlds they live in and dramatically lash out as a result. That's certainly true of his first film, 2016's "Lady Macbeth," which helped catapult a young Florence Pugh to stardom, and for a significant portion of its runtime, it seems as if "Eileen" is going to be a much different kind of story -- a lush but low-key period romance between a mousy young prison employee played by Thomasin McKenzie...

Shortly after shooting his 2015 film “The Lobster,” director Yorgos Lanthimos approached his producing partners Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe about another project he was interested in — “Poor Things,” based on the novel of the same name by Alasdair Gray. “Having made a film with him and having seen all of his previous work, we were very committed to him as a filmmaker,” Guiney tells Gold Derby. “The book ‘Poor Things’ sounded extraordinary. Without really knowing how we would pull it off, we signed up to think about getting it made.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Guiney and Lowe above.

You can smell what’s happening in “Starve Acre” before you puzzle the rest of it out. The grassy, peaty dampness of its rural Yorkshire setting seems to hit the olfactory glands without any scratch-and-sniff assistance, only intensifying as the film unearths its literally deep-buried secrets. Daniel Kokotajlo’s impressive second feature unfolds in a vein of British folk horror that has been popular of late — with films from Ben Wheatley’s “A Field in England” to Mark Jenkins’s “Enys Men” all tapping into that retro “Wicker Man” eeriness — but rarely with such rattling sensory specificity or formal refinement. Starring Morfydd Clark and Matt Smith as former townies unprepared for the full burden of lore they inherit with their desolate farmhouse, it’s a tale of quite outlandish fantastical leaps, grounded by the chills it also finds in common weather and wildlife.

It begins as a spatter of heavy rainfall — nothing out of the ordinary for acclimatized Brits, for whom an actual storm can even be cozily welcome after days of noncommittal drear and drizzle. But then it doesn’t stop, deep-set wet turns to invasive flooding, and what seemed a mere bout of inclement weather has swept you — and countless others like you — out of house and home. Megan Hunter’s speculative novel “The End We Start From” was a neat metaphor for the larger threat in seemingly minor signifiers of climate crisis; briskly adapted by screenwriter Alice Birch, Mahalia Belo’s fine film version matches its pragmatic, coolly urgent vision of a world coming apart slowly, gradually, and then all at once.

An orphaned Irish teenager spars with her scheming uncle in this insightful reworking of Sheridan Le Fanu’s novel
Here is a tightly laced, elegantly cut gothic period drama that easily slips through the cracks as the barrage of upmarket cinema vying for awards begins. The 19th-century source material, Sheridan Le Fanu’s novel Uncle Silas, isn’t super well-known outside university literature departments, and the lead actors aren’t especially famous names either – although gravelly-voiced David Wilmot, here playing the heavy, has built a career making indelible impressions with supporting roles on film and TV (Station Eleven). Likewise, if you caught limited TV series Ridley Road then the talents of Agnes O’Casey will already be a known quantity. But in a way, the freshness of face and/or versatility of both O’Casey and Wilmot, along with the rest of the cast, are what makes this feel like a discovery.

As we begin to see, it feels almost weekly, 'natural' (i.e. created by human activity) disasters happening around the world - floods, fires, you name it - you would be hard-pressed not think about what you would do with you were caught in such a disaster. What would you pack? Where would you go? To whom could you turn for help? At what point could you leave a loved on behind? In her feature debut, director Mahalia Belo, with a script by playwright and screenwriter Alice Birch based on the novel by Megan Hunter, follows this woman's story as she must constantly be aware of the physical, while the space and seemingly endless time around her also force to contemplate the...
