Self - Host: [while taking out the photo] I saw this picture last week, can you explain what's going on?
Self - Guest: oh yeah, that was sweet, I forgot how it happened but this woman turned ninety-nine
Self - Host: Connie... what's her name?
Self - Guest: [correcting him] "Ms. Connie" and her granddaughter I think tracked me down to see if I could wish her "Happy Birthday" or come see her for her birthday in Atlanta. So, I called her on her birthday
Self - Host: that's nice
Self - Guest: you know I said "Happy Birthday", she gave me my first library card when I was seven
Self - Host: [surprised] is that right?
Self - Guest: yeah, exactly and she remembered me and she said "You get the skinny little books," and I say "Oh, it was me"
Self - Host: [after Fallon and the audience laughs, impersonating Washington] "That's me alright"
Self - Guest: [jokingly] with a lot of pictures
Self - Host: you gotta start somewhere
Self - Guest: so, she lives in Atlanta and I said "You know what? I have to come to Atlanta because I'm the national spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs." So, I had a "thing" I had to do in Atlanta and I said "I'll come by and see you"
Self - Guest: [while Jimmy shows the photo to the audience] so, I went by to see her, she makes all these scarfs, like a lot of them
Self - Host: really?
Self - Guest: yeah, she makes scarves for everybody, so she gave me one and me and a hundred ninety-year old's, "kicked it" all afternoon
Self - Host: [to the camera] Ms. Connie, if you're watching, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year from Denzel and I
Self - Guest: so, afterwards, I talked to all the people that worked there and what I said to them was that "You know, the smallest gesture, you never know who you'll affect". This woman helped introduce me to books, and fifty years later... bang! So, you never know a kind word, a positive uplifting word can go a lifetime
