Fall marks the start of the traditional TV season. And while streaming has made television a year-round spectacle, an avalanche of new and returning series make this autumn feel more special than recent years.
Hollywood’s content contraction, along with the post-pandemic and strike landscape results in less shows overall. But upcoming streaming, cable and broadcast offerings come with such promise that we had to double our traditional preview to fit a fraction of the noteworthy titles set to premiere in the coming months. Ryan Murphy is set to take over the conversation with four new shows across three networks — including FX’s “American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” and “Grotesquerie,” Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” and ABC’s “Doctor Odyssey” — while returning favorites like “Abbott Elementary,” “The Diplomat” and “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” will keep fans entertained as the air starts to cool. Patton Oswalt’s Dark Horse comic book Minor Threats is heading to the small screen as a live action series for Netflix.
As well as acting, Patton Oswalt is well known as an award winning stand-up comedian, having released several specials and toured all over the world. He’s also built up an impressive CV in film and TV, from voicing Remy in Brad Bird’s wonderful Ratatouille and starring opposite Charlize Theron in Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman’s Young Adult, indie comedy I Love My Dad, to shows like A.P. Bio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, season four of Veronica Mars and many, many more.
In 2022, Oswalt co-authored Minor Threats with Jordan Blum for Dark Horse Comics. It follows low-level supervillains who usually find themselves bound in front of a police station with a note saying, “Courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Batman.”
It subverted genre tropes by having the main villain,...

Updated May 9: Peacock has confirmed the show’s move from NBC and noted that John Shiban will return as showrunner.
Previous: NBC’s loss is Peacock’s gain — again.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Peacock is putting the finishing touches on a deal that would see Law & Order: Organized Crime move from NBC to the streamer for a fifth season consisting of 10 episodes.
Reps for Peacock, NBC, producers Universal Television and executive producer Dick Wolf declined to comment, as a deal has yet to officially close.
Marking a return to the L&o world for franchise favorite Chris Meloni, Organized Crime has overperformed on Peacock with the streamer serving as the streaming home for all things Dick Wolf. Once the deal is formalized, Peacock will now have a Wolf original series to go with next-day episodes of NBC’s already renewed L&o flagship as well as Svu.

Hollywood icon and literal living legend Clint Eastwood turned 93 on Wednesday, marking yet another amazing milestone in a life full of them. And in honor of the “Unforgiven” director’s big day, fellow action star Arnold Schwarzenegger paid tribute in a short but nevertheless touching Instagram post.
“Happy birthday, Clint! You’ve inspired me, you’ve mentored me, and you’re a wonderful friend. At 93, you prove that heroes don’t retire – they reload. You’re a legend,” Schwarzenegger wrote in a message posted along with a recent but undated photo of the pair skiing.

He's back. And this time, he's coming for the world of streaming TV shows. Arnold Schwarzenegger was once the biggest movie star on the planet, but, amazingly enough, he's never in all of his years of stardom been at the center of a scripted TV show. That changes now, as Netflix has roped in the legendary action star for "Fubar," which is due to arrive on the streaming service next month. It very much looks like a modern action movie made for streaming -- only stretched out to the length of a series.
So, why now? What makes this the right time for the "Terminator"and "Predator" star to make the jump to the small screen? If this trailer is anything to go by, budgetary issues certainly aren't getting in the way like they would have in the '90s. Let's have a look at the trailer, shall we?

After being a box office stable for decades, Arnold Schwarzenegger is finally coming to the world of television. Netflix has released the first trailer for “Fubar,” its upcoming action comedy about a CIA operative who joins his daughter for one final mission. The eight-episode series is set to premiere on the streaming service May 25.
The first few seconds of the “Fubar” trailer make it look like your typical Schwarzenegger movie. Luke (Schwarzenegger) is captured by a group of thugs who seem hellbent on making him pay. Seconds later, he breaks free and makes good on his promise to “kill all of you and then leave.” Back at the CIA, he’s surrounded by adoring co-workers who are happy to celebrate his impending retirement. But all of his happiness fades when Luke learns that his daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) has followed in his footsteps to join this highly secretive and dangerous world.

In the age of revival television, it is still genuinely hard to believe that Starz is bringing the cult comedy favorite "Party Down" back for a long (long!) awaited third season, but it is indeed happening. As evidence of that, we have a brand new trailer for the new batch of episodes, which will be arriving via the premium cable channel next month. And yes, most of the original cast is back! Sadly, Lizzy Caplan isn't here as Casey Klein for another round of "will they, won't they" with Adam Scott's Henry Pollard. Be that as it may, it very much looks like the show folks like myself fell in love with. And in the third season...

It’s about to turn up because “Party Down” is back!
The beloved Starz original comedy series has officially returned 14 years since the show debuted in 2009. Original stars Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, Ken Marino, Ryan Hansen, and Martin Starr, plus Season 2 addition Megan Mullally, are reprising their respective roles for the revival series. Lizzy Caplan is the only original actor not returning for the reboot. Check out the trailer below.
The cater-waiter comedy centers on aspiring actor Henry (Scott), whose apathetic bartending skills sustain his dreams of being a Hollywood star. Henry works for Party Down catering company, managed by Ron (Marino). Each episode centered around a different catering job: from Sweet Sixteens to Bar Mitzvahs, funerals to pre-school fundraisers. The series ran for two seasons before being axed in 2010.
“This is not how I envisioned my 40s,” Henry says in the trailer for the highly anticipated revival.

We’re mere weeks away from the long overdue return of Starz’s cult hit series “Party Down,” and as the first trailer will prove, we’re delighted to report the gang are all still living that cautionary don’t-move-to-la life, even into their 40s and 50s. I mean, we’re delighted for you, the fans. We feel kind of bad for the characters.
You can see for yourself at the top of the page. It’s been 10 years and ostensibly they’ve all moved on. But after a surprise reunion, the gang find themselves once again stoically enduring the procession of random parties and oddball guests all over Los Angeles.
But time has not exactly been kind. It’s not just that actor/bartender Henry Pollard (Adam Scott) is grappling with the reality that he’s well into his 40s and still doing that for a living. It’s...

Glenn Howerton knows a thing or two about playing smarmy, aggressive guys who are obsessed with their hair, so it made perfect sense when he was cast as the voice of Fred in Mindy Kaling's "Scooby-Doo" spinoff series, "Velma." Howerton is best known for playing the creepy bartender Dennis Reynolds on the long-running FX series "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," but he's also great as former Harvard professor Jack Griffin on the Peacock series "A.P. Bio," and he's hilarious as fitness trainer Don Chumph in FX's "Fargo."
Now he gets to add playing a member of Mystery Incorporated to his resume. Well, sort of — the characters in "Velma" haven't quite teamed up to solve mysteries yet when the series starts. Either way, Howerton is great casting for a snarky take on perpetual rich-boy himbo Fred, and apparently he got inspiration for his approach from just hanging out with some of his favorite people.

Exclusive: Single-camera comedy series Maggie, originally picked up by ABC for the 2021-22 season, now will stream exclusively on sibling Hulu in the U.S. as a Hulu Original. The decision, underscoring the blurring of the lines between linear and streaming at the major media companies, was made in order to get Maggie in front of audiences instead of keeping it on the bench because of a lack of available slots on the network.
A premiere date will be announced later.
Maggie, starring Rebecca Rittenhouse as a young woman trying to cope with life while coming to terms with her abilities as a psychic, was one of four ABC pilots ordered to series last May along with comedies The Wonder Years and Abbott Elementary and drama Queens.
On the comedy side, The Wonder Years got off to a strong start in the fall and, along with sophomore Home Economics, received full-season pickups in October.

Patton Oswalt took to Instagram to explain and defend his friendship with comedian Dave Chappelle after a prior post of Oswalt and Chappelle together sparked backlash.
Oswalt apologized that he “didn’t consider the hurt this would cause” or the “Depth of that hurt” in reference to his initial Instagram post, in which he posed with Chappelle after being invited last-minute to do a guest set at Chappelle’s arena performance on New Year’s Eve. “I ended the year with a real friend and a deep laugh,” the original Instagram post read in part.
“Thirty four Years we’ve been friends,” Oswalt noted in the follow-up post. “He’s refocused and refined ideas a lot of us took as settled about race & history & Life on Planet Earth and spun them around with a phrase or punchline. We’ve done bad & good gigs, open mikes & TV tapings. But we also 100% disagree about transgender rights & representation.

NBCUniversal’s international flight plan for Peacock starts this week: Starting Nov. 16, Sky TV and Now customers in the U.K. and Ireland will get access to the streaming service for no additional fee.
Comcast had announced plans this summer to launch Peacock as a free add-on for Sky’s satellite TV customers in Europe, representing a base of close to 20 million households. Sky TV customers and subscribers to the Now Entertainment package in the U.K. and Ireland will get “early access” to the new ad-supported Peacock destination, with original and library TV shows and movies from across NBCU although the content availability will differ from what’s available on Peacock in the U.

Fittingly for a show about high school, A.P. Bio’s writers are often tasked with the least enjoyable aspect of education: homework.
“One of the ways we try to find new areas in stories is just by writing assignments and homework,” A.P. Bio showrunner Mike O’Brien tells Den of Geek. “We’ll all go home and write. I often call them sketches or scenes – just some little thing.”
O’Brien’s homework assignments have apparently paid off as they’ve allowed the comedy to reach four seasons, the first two of which aired on NBC and the following two on streaming service Peacock.
A.P. Bio is set in the fictional Whitlock High School in Toledo, Ohio and follows disgraced Harvard philosophy professor Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton) as he returns home to teach some eager nerds A.P. Biology. Unfortunately for the nerds, Jack has no intention of teaching them A.

Here at Den of Geek we believe in a diversity of the geek diaspora. Some of us are soft-bodied boys who, let’s say hypothetically, washed out of their high school baseball tryouts because they couldn’t run too well. Other geeks, however, are pure beefcakes. And that’s great!
One such physically adept geek, Dungeons & Dragons enthusiast Joe Manganiello, will be lending his talents to a little-watched (but really good) Peacock comedy A.P. Bio this fall when the show returns for its fourth season on Sept. 2. Manganiello will play the whimsically named Malachi, who is described as “a big and intimidating personality who unexpectedly steps into Jack’s life, causing Jack great distress and insecurity in his personal relationships.” Check out a trailer for season 4 with Jack and Malachi below.

The show that taught 1980s kids not to hide in an abandoned old refrigerator — or, at the very least, learn CPR in case one of your friends does sneak into one of those scary old latch iceboxes — will not continue with its revival. The updated “Punky Brewster,” which Peacock brought back as part of the streamer’s first-year lineup, will not be renewed for more episodes.
Peacock debuted all 10 episodes of the new “Punky Brewster,” featuring original star Soleil Moon Frye (who also served as an executive producer), on Feb. 25. The show reunited Frye as Punky with her old friend Cherie (Cherie Johnson), and updated her story to focus on Punky raising her three kids after separating from her husband (Freddie Prinze Jr.). As Roku kicks the tires on NBC’s canceled “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” it’s the latest streamer to potentially play hero for TV fans yearning to see their favorite bubble shows saved. It’s a common refrain: Revive a canceled series with a vocal fan base, and then capitalize on the attention that comes with acquiring a show with that rabid following.
Netflix has done it several times, with AMC’s “The Killing,” A&e’s “Longmire,” ABC’s “Designated Survivor,” Lifetime’s “You” and Fox’s “Lucifer.” Hulu early on revived “The Mindy Project,” also from Fox. And Amazon gave a second life to Syfy’s “The Expanse” and now, Pop TV’s “Flack.”
