A contentious biopic about India’s polarizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, titled “Pm Narendra Modi,” will finally release on April 11. That is the same day that the mega exercise that is the Indian elections begins.

The film has been put together remarkably quickly, with principal photography commencing Jan. 28. It was due in theaters on April 12, with release then brought forward to April 5.

Opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, had petitioned the Election Commission to delay the film’s release until after the polls close on May 19, on the grounds that it was propaganda for the incumbent prime minister and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Producers announced that the film will release simultaneously in 38 countries.

Aditi Rao Hydari, who plays Sanjay Dutt’s daughter in his comeback film, Bhoomi, was required to stammer with just a slight hesitation in her voice. Talking about the actress perfecting her speech in the film, director Omung Kumar says, “I was clear that I didn’t want her stammering to look forced or artificial. Aditi and I did several workshops in order to understand how it would come across, and whether it would work better in the form of a slight hesitation or a complete stammer. I squirmed, as I was meant to. Bhoomi, a film about a father and daughter’s revenge on her wrongdoers set in the seamier side of the city of the Taj Mahal, is not an easy film to view. Just because it stars Sanjay Dutt, don’t expect him to rise Phoenix-like to the occasion. With remarkable disregard for his larger-than-strife image, Sanjay Dutt plays an aging, caring, doting father who is a helpless mute entity in the case to fight his daughter’s violators.

After a long hiatus Sanju Baba is going to be seen scorching screens with his upcoming revenge drama Bhoomi. A large portion of the film has been shot in Agra except for a courtroom sequence which was shot in Mumbai. The sequence entailed a six page long emotional scene with powerful dialogues. The day it was to be shot, Sanjay Dutt was busy making the cast and crew laugh which made the producers Bhushan Kumar and Sandeep Singh weary of shooting this hard-hitting scene. At 7.30 pm as the cameras rolled Sanjay Dutt stood and shot the entire scene in just one take leaving everyone spellbound!

The cast and crew were left teary-eyed as they waited for director Omung Kumar to say ‘cut’!
