Move over, John Kramer — there's a new twisted vigilante in town! And this ain't just any old bloodthirsty kook either: it's Hannibal Lecter himself, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Yes, in David Yarovesky's upcoming single location thriller Locked, Hopkins plays William, a Jigsaw-style cool, calm, and collected killer who traps unsuspecting lout Eddie (Bill Skarsgård) in his luxury SUV when the down-on-his-luck thief tries to steal his car. Thus ensues a battle of wits as William employs all sorts of cruel, car-based torture to punish Eddie while his hostage fights for survival. And you can check out the trailer for the Sam Raimi produced horror thriller, a remake of original 2019 Argentinian effort 4x4 (which itself has been remade once already as 2022 Brazilian flick A Jaula), below:
"I just want to introduce you to a little taste of hell," Hopkins' William — only heard, never seen — tells Eddie in this cheek-clenchingly tense first trailer for Locked.

Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions ends with a fairly clever twist, but unfortunately, said twist presents a major franchise problem going forward. The first Escape Room became a sleeper hit in 2019, overcoming mediocre reviews by critics to become a hit with audiences, earning $155 million on a $9 million budget. After several Covid-19-related delays, Escape Room 2 finally hit theaters, and while the sequel might not have been the financial powerhouse the first movie was, its makers clearly intend to bring the world an Escape Room 3 based on the Escape Room 2 ending.
After another movie full of Zoey (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller) staying alive despite trap after trap constructed by the Minos company, the Escape Room 2 ending twist reveals that everything in the sequel up to that point had been done to convince Zoey that Minos had been caught, and get her and Ben into the...

As development on the sequel finally begins ramping up, Melissa Barrera shares an exciting update for Ready or Not 2. The original film, written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy and directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, revolved around a bride whose family of in-laws hunt her on the wedding night as part of a Satanic ritual to maintain their wealth. After reports swirled of a follow-up in early 2024, it was confirmed in October 2024 that Ready or Not 2 was moving forward with the entire creative team, including star Samara Weaving, returning.
During a recent interview with ComicBook.com for her monster rom-com Your Monster, Barrera was asked about the possibility of reuniting with Radio Silence for Ready or Not 2 after their collaboration on Abigail. Though she noted she hasn't had any official conversations with them about starring in the horror sequel, she does know "some" of what's...

Stapleview is relaunching in a big way. The sketch comedy outfit, best known for generating laughs on TikTok, has announced an original programming slate that includes five new shows and three upcoming titles.
The class of Stapleview originals will launch across the brand’s channels on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Each program will be led by one or more up-and-coming comic actors, including some creators who have cut their teeth on their personal social media accounts.
That approach is not unusual for Stapleview, which launched in 2022 as a TikTok-era answer to Saturday Night Live. The brand was founded by Daniel Lantsman and Sam Grey, the latter of whom is a former employee at Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video.
One of Lantsman and Grey’s goals is to forge connections between social media funnypeople and the traditional comedy world, and the original iteration of Stapleview accomplished that mission. Jane Wickline, one of the original Stapleview players,...

Five years ago, genre regular Samara Weaving starred in a very cool horror comedy called Ready or Not, which was directed by Radio Silence members Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who went on to make the two most recent Scream sequels and the “Dracula’s daughter” movie Abigail. Earlier this year, it was announced that a sequel is now moving forward, with Escape Room director Adam Robitel taking the helm of a Ready or Not 2 that Radio Silence, still on board as producers, has promised will be “an absolute banger.” Now, during an interview with ComicBook.com, Weaving has confirmed that she is “all in” on the sequel.
When the subject of Ready or Not 2 came up, Weaving told ComicBook.com, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake,...

Back in April, reports did the rounds that a sequel to 2019 horror hit Ready or Not was in the works with Adam Robitel in talks to direct.
The original movie's directors, Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (aka Radio Silence), would later confirm to Entertainment Weekly that the project is in the very early stages of development.
“It’s getting figured out. That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out,” Gillett told the site. “What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f*cking banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made, we are so excited that it’s happening.”
“I don’t think we knew after making [Ready or Not] that there would be so much story left to tell,” Gillett continued. “We’re so proud of what that first movie is,...

A sequel to the Radio Silence hit Ready or Not is in the works, with Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan, Insidious: The Last Key, Escape Room, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) in talks to direct Ready or Not 2. But will Samara Weaving be returning to star in the upcoming sequel? According to Weaving herself, she’s “all in.”
Weaving tells ComicBook.com this week, “I’m all in. I think we’re all in, I don’t know. I think we’re all in. I don’t know if we’ve had our blood handshake, but pretty much. We’ve done the spit handshake, but we haven’t cut each other’s hands and rubbed our blood together.”
Samara Weaving will next be seen in Azrael, in theaters September 27.
Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin had explained to Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, “Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out.

The filmmaker behind a Hindi-language movie called "Luck" is suing Netflix in federal court, alleging that the massively successful show "Squid Game" stole from his own project, which as released back in 2009 (per TMZ and Fortune). In a suit filed in New York on Friday, writer-director Soham Shah claimed that, "The main plot, characters, themes, mood, setting and sequence of events of 'Squid Game' are strikingly similar to that of 'Luck,' defying any likelihood that such similarities could be coincidence."
Shah is suing for unspecified damages, but he's also seeking an injunction in an attempt to stop Netflix from continuing to market and make money from "Squid Game" and related properties, which his suit says continue to infringe upon his rights. While this type of lawsuit is fairly common (and difficult to prove in the plaintiff's favor), it can also be a drawn-out and expensive process for all involved.

The Taylor Russell movies and TV shows show how she has exploded recently to become one of Hollywood's top go-to young stars. Russell is a Canadian actress who began her entertainment career as a ballet dancer and later as a painter. She moved on to try her hand at music and finally became an actor. Her first role came in 2012, when she was 18, for The CW medical drama Emily Owens, M.D. After a Lifetime television film and one-shot TV appearances, she finally broke out in 2018.
In 2018, Russell picked up the finest leading role of her career by playing Judy Robinson in the Netflix reboot of Lost in Space. That was her big break, but she set her sights next on movies and picked up her first lead role there with the 2019 horror movie Escape Room, which was a box-office success and showed that Russell could lead the way in a successful movie.

Last year, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. Horror-comedy is one of the most intriguing genres out there, as it includes a weird mix of spooky terrors and sudden bouts of uncontrollable laughter. One of the many successful films that belonged to that genre is Samara Weaving’s Ready or Not. With an interesting premise and gore-filled comedy, the 2019 film managed to earn over $57 million at the global box office with a minuscule budget of $6 million.

Has it really been five years since the release of Ready or Not? The film, which starred Samara Weaving as a young bride who her spouse’s wealthy family hunts as part of a ritual, received positive reviews and didn’t do too badly at the box office, so where’s the sequel? Well, directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and producer Chad Villella — collectively known as Radio Silence — told Entertainment Weekly that they’ve been working on Ready or Not 2 since the release of the first movie and tease that it’s “an absolute f***ing banger.“
“It’s getting figured out,” said Gillett. “That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out. What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute f—ing banger of a sequel. And however it gets made, and in whatever capacity we are helping get it made,...

‘Ready or Not’: Radio Silence Filmmakers Tease the “Absolute Banger” of a Sequel That’s Taking Shape
It was first reported a couple weeks ago that Ready or Not 2 is now in development, with Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan, Insidious: The Last Key, Escape Room, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) in talks to direct the sequel to the 2019 box office hit. Additionally, we had learned that Samara Weaving would be returning to star.
Entertainment Weekly caught up with Ready or Not directors Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin in the wake of those reports, and we’ve now got an update straight from the source.
“It’s getting figured out. That’s what we’ll say: Ready or Not 2 is getting figured out,” Gillett tells EW, confirming last month’s report. “What we can say is that there is a script that is an absolute fucking banger of a sequel. Ready Or Not 2 is reportedly in the works with Samara Weaving returning to reprise her role from the first film.
2019’s Ready Or Not was one of the best horror films we’ve had in the last five years. It was fun, had some great kills and a killer plot with an ending for the ages.
The film followed Samara Weaving’s Grace as she marries her dream guy, Alex, whose family owns a successful board game company. On her wedding night, Grace finds herself as the victim of a particularly cruel game that the family plays.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider reports in his newsletter (via the lovely folks at Bloody Disgusting) that a sequel to the hit film is now in the works. Weaving is expected to return to play Grace once again, but the project is still in the early stages of development so not much else is known at this time.

Ready or Not was a deliciously twisted play on the concept of meeting the family of one’s fiancée. Samara Waving plays a young woman who is invited on the night of her wedding by her new husband’s rich, eccentric family to participate in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival. The horror comedy also starred Adam Brody, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Henry Czerny, and Andie MacDowell and was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who have gone on to direct Scream (2022) and Scream VI.
Ready or Not was written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. However, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett are currently involved with a new Universal Monsters project, so they will not be returning for Ready or Not 2. Instead, ComingSoon.net reports that Escape Room director Adam Robitel will be taking the reins for the sequel. The scoop comes from industry source,...

The monsters in Escape The Field were actually humans infected by a serum, losing their humanity entirely. The puzzle in Escape The Field was central to the experiment, revealing traits the researchers were studying in the subjects. Escape The Field serves as a commentary on government secrecy and disturbing experiments, perpetuating a never-ending cycle of pain.
Although it offered an interesting premise, the Escape The Field ending created a lot of confusion as many plot points were left open-ended. Directed by Emerson Moore, Escape The Field follows six strangers who wake up in a cornfield with no memory of how they got there. Similar to the plot in Escape Room and Saw, each individual is forced to participate in a series of challenges and solve several puzzles if they want to escape. However, the group soon discover that something sinister is lurking in the field when several characters end up...

Director Vincenzo Natali's "Cube" is a movie that has earned its place in horror history. Released in 1997 (and more recently remade in Japan), the film was ahead of the curve in several ways, particularly when it came to its ridiculously brutal kill scenes. Anyone who has seen the movie will probably tell you that no kill scene is quite as memorable as that of Alderson's. Played by Julian Richings, he ends up being cut into, well, cubes. Turns out, this impressively gross kill was accomplished with practical visual effects.
The most recent edition of SFX Magazine did a retrospective on "Cube" and Natali provided some insight for the piece. For those who may need a refresher, the film centers on a group of strangers who wake up and find themselves in a giant cube. Each of them has a special skill and they must work together to escape the massive maze of deadly traps.

Singer-actor Harry Styles and Taylor Russell bundled up to brave the London cold together. The couple was spotted walking side-by-side in the U.K. capital’s Hampstead neighbourhood. The ‘As It Was’ singer, 29, and the ‘Bones and All’ star, also 29, sported black coats, caps and sneakers for the low-key day out, reports People magazine.
Though they have yet to publicly confirm their relationship, Styles and Russell have been romantically linked since last June, when a fan of the musician shared a series of photos on TikTok of the pair getting into a car together.
As per People, the following month, with rumours of a romance between the two still circulating, Russell attended one of Styles’ Love on Tour stops in Vienna. At the Austria concert, the Escape Room star was seen dancing along to the singer’s hit song ‘Watermelon Sugar’ in the VIP section, per photos obtained by TMZ.

Look for The Last Voyage of the Demeter to arrive on Paramount+ with Showtime on February 11, 2024.

The film is an adaptation of a single passage from Bram Stoker’s classic horror novel, known as “The Captain’s Log,” which has never been adapted like this before.
The film is “based on a single chapter, the Captain’s Log, from Bram Stoker’s classic 1897 novel Dracula. The chapter tells the story of the Russian schooner, Demeter, which was chartered to carry private cargo – twenty four unmarked wooden crates – from Carpathia to London.

Traditionally the first month of the year has been a dumping ground as studios have steered clear of the residual glow of the holiday blockbusters and the prestige films audiences try to catch up on before the awards begin to air. January may not be the best time to launch your new $300 million budgeted tent pole franchise picture, but it has proven a great launch pad for moderately budgeted horror films.

As mentioned in last week’s preview, the month of January is probably going to be a bit quieter with not that many big movies, as theatergoers mainly will be catching up on holiday and Oscar fare. We do have one new wide release this weekend, though. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
Jason Blum‘s Blumhouse and James Wan‘s Atomic Monster had such a huge hit when Universal released their horror film “M3GAN” the first week of January in 2023, that the same team has reunited for this weekend’s new high-concept entry, “Night Swim.”

Happy New Year! The first month of the year begins next week, and January means a few things in the world of movies: First off, there’s the Sundance Film Festival, where new movies and talent will be discovered that the rest of the world will have a chance to see over the rest of the year. There are also the Oscar nominations on January 23 which will become the focus of movie lovers for the next few weeks. There’s also the notorious myth that studios save all of their bad movies for January, which isn’t necessarily true, but one probably shouldn’t expect too many mega-blockbusters in the coming month. Read on for Gold Derby’s January 2024 box office preview.

Amazon MGM Studios is going back for superhero seconds.
The streamer is developing a sequel to Samaritan, its 2022 action movie starring Sylvester Stallone, and has hired Bragi F. Schut to pen the script. Schut also wrote the first movie.
Stallone is returning as producer, as is his Balboa Productions partner Braden Aftergood. Stallone is also reprising his starring role with a deal made prior to the actors strike.
Samaritan, directed by Julius Avery, told of a young boy who is saved from a beating by a sanitation worker. The boy comes to believe that the older man is a superhero who disappeared 20 years earlier, after an epic battle with his archenemies. The movie, which premiered exclusively on Prime Video on Aug. 26, 2022, in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide, overperformed for the company and was the No. 1 film on the service for three consecutive weeks, according to Amazon.
Schut wrote the first script on spec.

Jay Ellis literally raced through the airport to get to Las Vegas's Jbl Fest, but once he was settled down in the club for the festival's official launch night on Sept. 22, it was impossible to describe him as anything other than chill. Even though he's a star, he had the energy of an old friend - especially when he revealed he was particularly looking forward to seeing Bruno Mars perform later that evening.
Apparently, Ellis says, he lived close to Mars when he first moved to Los Angeles. "He was my neighbor, and he doesn't know this, but he used to have parties all the time. Everybody on our street was like, who is this dude having parties? And it was Bruno," Ellis laughs, noting that at the time, he never received an invite.

20th Century has tapped Argentine director Pablo Trapero to direct an adaptation of Olen Steinhauer’s best-selling spy thriller “The Tourist,” TheWrap has confirmed. Neal H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are producing.
The book’s plot is described as: “Milo Weaver has tried to leave his old life of secrets and lies behind by giving up his job as a ‘tourist’ for the CIA—an undercover agent with no home, no identity—and working a desk at the CIA’s New York headquarters. But staying retired from the field becomes impossible when the arrest of a long-sought-after assassin sets off an investigation into one of Milo’s oldest colleagues and friends.”
The original 2009 novel inspired three more sequels. It was not only a best-selling novel but also received heaps of praise, with Stephen King saying “The Tourist” was “the best spy novel I’ve ever read that wasn’t written by John le Carré.

The original 2009 novel inspired three more sequels. It was not only a best-selling novel but also received heaps of praise, with Stephen King saying “The Tourist” was “the best spy novel I’ve ever read that wasn’t written by John le Carré.
