Nebula has set the cast for its upcoming short film from “Night of the Coconut” director and popular video essayist Patrick Willems, “The Dinner Plan.” A dark comedy about a guy with a rare food allergy who’s trying to make it through a stressful dinner party at his boss’s house, the cast includes “The Tick” star Griffin Newman, “American Fiction’s” Miriam Shor and “Severance” star Zach Cherry, among four other stars.
Per the logline for “The Dinner Plan,” “When he’s pressured into attending a dinner party hosted by his boss, a man who suffers from a rare food allergy must navigate the most stressful night of his life with one primary objective: just don’t throw up in front of everyone.”
Actors joining the ensemble cast for the project include Newman, Shor, John Hodgman, Eudora Peterson, Geoffrey Cantor, Cherry and Cindy Cheung.

Prime Video's The Tick was a delightful return for the wild blue yonder, having all the comedy and action expected from such a storied character. The series debuted on the streaming service back in 2016, with its first season running for 12 episodes, focusing on the titular hero, Arthur (The Tick's sidekick), and their quest to defeat The Terror.
Each episode of the first season had something special to it, but which ones stand out as the very best? Let's rank each of them and find out!
12. After Midnight
Midnight was a strange character on the TV series - a talking dog. While animals have always had a place in The Tick's storylines (see the Man Eating Cow) Midnight wasn't a highlight of the Prime Video show. An episode focusing on him wasn't the most compelling, and that unfortunately makes it the least memorable of season 1.
Still though, like all Tick episodes,...

The Tick is one of the greatest indie superheroes of all time. Published by NEC (New England Comics), originally a Boston-based comic book store, he has since been adapted into three different TV shows.
Ben Edlund, the creator of The Tick wrote and drew the original 12-issue run. The original run was collected in what is called The Complete Edlund Omnibus. Boasting 424 pages on its cover, the omnibus is an amazing piece for fans of The Tick.
Some of the greatest characters in The Tick mythos make their start here, including Arthur, Paul the Samurai, The Man Eating Cow, and The Terror. Edlund's world was amazing, with tons of fun characters and storylines that will be beloved for years to come.
The confusion for new readers is what is known as the Pseudo Edition. Edlund ran The Tick for 12 issues, which were fantastic but did not provide a conclusion to the final story arc.

Valorie Curry was among the handful of actors who joined the cast of Amazon Prime’s brutal and gory TV show, The Boys as the supe Firecracker. A member of Seven, the actress did an incredible job at portraying the fiery and intense character.

The Tick ran for two seasons on Amazon Prime Video between 2016 and 2019. The series was funny, well written, and bold. The great action scenes and the genuine characters made it one of the greatest - and most underrated - superhero streaming shows of all time.
The Tick is a classic comic book character, and has been since the '80s, he has been delightfully funny and action packed. Of course, he has had a great cast of characters along with him, so many of which would have been perfect for a season 3 of Amazon's series.
The Chainsaw Vigilante
Ben Edlund created The Tick, and ran the original comic book for 12 issues. Within these issues, The Tick met The Chainsaw Vigilante. The Chainsaw Vigilante is a vigilante set on destroying superheroes. He believes that superheroes only result in people getting hurt, and so he defeats and scares heroes out of their heroic endeavors.

One of the most aggravating aspects of becoming invested in a TV show is when networks cancel it too soon. There are many shows that haven’t made it past one season, as they struggle to establish a strong fanbase. For the most part, these cancelled series plummet into the TV wasteland of forgotten shows. But a few live on as cult series, or in the memory of fans still bitter over an early cancellation.
There are several reasons a network cancels a show, but the main one is ratings – especially in the days when the Neilsen ratings determined the fate of a series. Before cable and streaming, the “Big Three” networks of ABC, CBS and NBC fought for viewership, and wouldn’t hesitate to axe a show that didn’t perform well. Unfortunately, some shows like “The Tick” didn’t receive the support they deserved from network executives, either...

Get ready for another go-around with the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen. Variety has reported that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 2. In his review for season one, our own Alex Maidy said, “The Gentlemen series feels like a reimagining of the film. The story hits some vaguely similar notes but the vast majority is completely different. […] This is a unique reimagining of a successful story that takes it in a different direction and sets up future seasons.”
Netflix U.K.’s VP spoke ecstatically about the show’s successful first season, “With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, The Gentlemen was a huge hit with audiences in 2024. Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. The Boys Season 4 introduced two new characters into The Seven – Sister Sage, played by Susan Heyward, and Firecracker, played by Valorie Curry. Curry’s Firecracker aka Misty is a right-wing YouTuber and political activist in The Boys universe, who’s a leading figure in the ‘Alt-supe’ movement. It was as if the character was designed to make fans despise her in every way possible.

“Destiny’s powerful hand has made the bed of my future, and it’s up to me to lie in it,” soliloquized that Big Blue Bug of Justice known as The Tick as he sat in the cramped seat of a charter bus on the way to “The City,” which the National Superhero Institute had recently assigned him protective duties over.
“I am destined to be a superhero,” he continued. “To right wrongs and pound two-fisted justice into the hearts of evil-doers everywhere. You don’t fight destiny, no sir! And you don’t eat crackers in the bed of your future or you get all scratchy! They’ve assigned me a city. My mission: to free it from the ravages of evil and supervillainy, so its citizens may sleep easy, secure in the knowledge that they are protected. The City — My The City — it cries to me of its need.

When Tim Miller's superhero film "Deadpool" was released in 2016, it felt like a breath of fresh air. The Marvel Cinematic Universe was still standing astride the Earth like a mighty colossus, releasing gigantic hit films every few months. The MCU dominated the conversation like no other series of blockbusters before, generating so much online discourse that entire subgenres of journalism sprung up it its shadow. And the McU's fans were passionately defensive, often accusing any naysayers or critics of hating fun and being ignorant to what great cinema looked like.
When "Deadpool" came out, the MCU was coming off "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Ant-Man," and was gearing up for "Captain America: Civil War." The MCU was in its stride. "Deadpool" sought to stick out his foot and trip the genre, hoping to cause a stumble. "Deadpool" was a crass, ultra-violent, obscenity-laced R-rated comedy which featured scenes of the...

What was initially a plan for a Star Wars film rejected by Disney seems to have transformed into the worst flop in the career of director and writer Zack Snyder, as the recently released Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, the sequel to Rebel Moon, is once again panned by critics, with the ratings listing it as Snyder’s worst movie – yes, worse than even the horrible Sucker Punch and the first part of Rebel Moon.
But, it seems that this won’t be stopping Snyder from expanding his franchise, as per the most recent reports. We know that Snyder and his writers are currently working on the script for a third movie if Netflix decides to make it, but a new project is coming sooner than expected and in a very unexpected format.
But, aside from this, we’d also like to report that the fans are not too happy about this,...

When revisiting stuff from your childhood, sometimes you have to call upon the magical power of nostalgia to distract yourself from how truly childish — or downright terrible — it is. Transformers, for example, is the dumbest cartoon ever made, and Nickelodeon’s Doug couldn’t be anymore dull.
There are some kids’ cartoons, though, that have so many layers that they only get funnier as you age. Here are seven of them…

Ren & Stimpy is probably the first cartoon people think of when they’re talking about kids’ cartoons aimed at adults since it’s filled with all sorts of gross and suggestive moments, particularly when involving the relationship between its two leads.
5 Rocko’s Modern Life
Like Ren & Stimpy, Rocko’s Modern Life had adult jokes that went over kids’ heads, but there’s another layer to the show that appeals to adults, too. Nearly every story is...

Valorie Curry has played a lot of characters over the years with whom she had almost nothing in common — a murderous cult member in Fox’s The Following, a paramedic who moonlights for the mob in Amazon’s The Tick, a cryptid researcher in 2016’s Blair Witch sequel — but few have been quite as starkly antithetical to Curry’s personal beliefs as Firecracker.
Firecracker, the latest mutant to join Amazon’s superhero satire The Boys in its new fourth season, is politically divisive, with extremist and often hateful opinions on everything from vaccines and CIA conspiracies to the Lgbtqia community.
Curry, who identifies as a lesbian — she first came out as pansexual on Instagram in 2019, during National Coming Out Day — should have been repelled by Firecracker. But her reaction was just the opposite. “It sounds so gross to say, but I really connected with her right off the bat,” says Curry.

The Boys Season 4 Goes Off-Canon with Two New Members of The Seven - Main Image
Prime Video is drumming up the excitement for the new season of The Boys. After Billy Butcher’s anti-Supes crew, we now have the official poster for the latest members of The Seven: Sister Sage and Firecracker.
In one of its major deviations from the source material, The Boys introduces two Supes without comic book counterparts; hence, little is known about the newbies.
Sister Sage, a former member of the young Supe group Teenage Kix, reportedly boasts of superior intelligence but is often sidelined due to her race and gender. “We wanted a Black woman who was raised in a low socioeconomic area, so no one f---ing listens to her,” shares showrunner Eric Kripke in an interview. Her other superpowers are yet to be revealed. Breakthrough star Susan Heyward from Orange is the New Black plays Sister Sage.

Imagine. The year is 1994 and you are a huge superhero fan. You sit down to watch your favorite cartoon show, a thrilling battle of good versus evil. In this week’s episode, Charles uses his mental might to clash with a blue enemy who promises to be his friend.
The cheesy voice-acting and choppy animation doesn’t disrupt the experience. In fact, it makes it better, intensifying the clash between Charles and the blue guy until you can’t take it anymore and you unleash your hero’s battle cry:
“Spoon!”
Because, of course, you’re not watching X-Men: The Animated Series, nor even Batman: The Animated Series, both respected superhero cartoons that get ample praise today. No, the Charles in question is Brainchild, a precocious evil pre-teen (voiced by Rob Paulsen) who enhanced his intelligence by giving himself a glass covered throbbing brain.

Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy is exactly the kind of nonsense Star Wars and, honestly, Disney+ needs right now! I don’t need to see any more Filoni fan fiction or showrunner therapy sessions in a Galaxy Far, Far Away. Please give me some silly stuff!
Today, the Star Wars YouTube channel uploaded a teaser trailer for the upcoming “four-piece” Disney+ series, which promises, “History will be rebuilt.” Who’s ready to go on this ride with Stranger Things‘ Gaten Matarazzo?
“In Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, the entire Star Wars galaxy gets completely mixed up when an ordinary nerf-herder, Sig Greebling (Gaten Matarazzo), unearths a powerful artifact called the Cornerstone from a hidden Jedi temple. He finds himself thrust into adventure in a new, wondrously wild and twisted version of the galaxy where good guys are bad, bad guys are good, and the fate of all depends...

When you hear the name Seth MacFarlane, you’ll probably know that you’re in for some borderline humor that does hit the spot but not always in the way you’d expect. MacFarlane is funny, which cannot be denied, but his humor has been divisive from the very beginning. Whether it’s Ted, his Oscar hosting gig, or his most famous work, the adult animated series Family Guy, MacFarlane certainly knows how to draw attention to himself. The latter series has, despite all the praise directed at it, often been criticized for its humor and how it tends to take things too far, especially when sensitive social issues are concerned.
Now, this report isn’t about MacFarlane directly, but it is about another Family Guy character, the paraplegic macho police officer Joe Swanson, who is voiced by one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces and voices, Patrick Warburton. The...

Barry Sonnenfeld's 1991 film "The Addams Family," based on the New Yorker comic strips by Chas Addams and extrapolated from the 1964 sitcom of the same name, was a pop culture clarion call for aspiring young goths the world over. The Addams Family were a gaggle of murderous weirds who lived in a haunted mansion, kept a severed human hand as a pet, and regularly engaged in cute family games wherein they exhumed long-dead relatives. They loved blood, sex, and magic. It's possible they were immortal; the young Wednesday (Christina Ricci) regularly murdered her brother Pugsley (Jimmy Workman). Morticia (Anjelica Huston) and Gomez (Raul Julia) were sexually active to an enviable degree, perhaps standing as one of the healthiest, most sex-positive couples in movies at the time. They were full of zest and joie de vivre. Only they were obsessed with death, so perhaps the term should be joie de mourir.

Just four years after the movie hit theaters, Netflix has turned Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" into a TV show. The above teaser trailer for the series offers proof of that, introducing a drug empire, a cast of criminals, and some vintage Ritchie shenanigans.
The teaser admittedly doesn't dive too deeply into the story, but it does do a great job of capturing the vibe. It's all set to the tune of "Time of the Season" by The Zombies, with some welcome narration by Giancarlo Esposito, of "Breaking Bad" and "The Boys" fame. Esposito is just one part of a pretty well-stacked ensemble led by Theo James ("The White Lotus"). Blood, boxing, and quips, this has all of the hallmarks of a classic Guy Ritchie production. It certainly has a similar feeling to the 2020 movie, but it also feels designed to satisfy "Snatch" fans. The official synopsis for the show...

Susan Hurwitz Arneson (The Last Amazon) will pen the series adaptation and serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Created in 1978, Elfquest, published by Dark Horse Comics, is a fantasy story about a community of elves and other fictional species who struggle to survive and coexist on a primitive Earth-like planet with two moons.
Rothman and Rosenberg will executive produce for Modern Magic, along with Arneson and Wendy and Richard Pini. Bento Box Entertainment is the studio.
“ElfQuest couldn’t be in better hands,” said Wendy and Richard Pini in a statement to Deadline. “Our collaborators trust the story. We have the highest regard for their previous achievements, and they have our blessing and input.

Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" is one of the more unusual blockbusters of its era. Following the massive, massive success of his 1989 "Batman," Burton was seemingly given a lot more creative leeway with his sequel, transforming the world of Batman into a noir carnival nightmare of hopelessness and kink. "Returns" saw the Dark Knight (Michael Keaton) facing off against the sewer-dwelling creep the Penguin (Danny DeVito) and beginning an unhealthy flirtation with the mentally unwell Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer).
Burton's rendition of Catwoman may be the best Batman villain to have been depicted in live-action. She was unbalanced and terrifying, using her newfound mindset as a tool for liberation. It's no coincidence that her costume is a skintight leather vinyl costume with a corset and a whip. This was Catwoman as a horror movie dominatrix. She had more in common with the Cenobites from "Hellraiser" than anything from a Batman comic book.

For my money, the Monkees are way, way more interesting than the Beatles.
According to Andrew Sandoval's thorough and invaluable book "The Monkees: The Day-By-Day Story of the '60s TV Pop Sensation," an ad was put in Variety and the Hollywood Reporter on September 8, 1965, looking for "four insane boys" to be the members of a new pre-fabricated pop band. The band would also star in a TV series -- deliberately meant to evoke Richard Lester's 1964 Beatles film "A Hard Day's Night" -- that would use their real names, but present their lives as a fictional merry-go-round of kooky shenanigans.
The producers zeroed in on former child actor Micky Dolenz, a friend of musician Stephen Stills named Peter Tork, a British, boyish heartthrob named Davy Jones, and heir to the Liquid Paper fortune, Mike Nesmith. Their TV series debuted on September 12, 1966, the week after "Star Trek" debuted, and...

Now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe seems to be winding down in earnest (films like "The Marvels" and shows like "Secret Invasion" aren't nearly as successful as their forbears), perhaps audiences may finally be able to speak about the series as it if weren't an inevitability. The MCU indeed stood like a mighty colossus over the entire film industry for the better part of 15 years, but there was nothing beyond our uncreative assumptions to indicate that it had to happen or that it would last forever.
Perhaps with that attitude gone, audiences will be able to see films like "Blade" as a stylish action/horror flick unto itself, and not a dry run for something better down the line. Perhaps the 1996 pilot for "Generation X" can be accepted merely as a low-budget, MTV-inflected take on the X-Men. And perhaps TV movies like David Goyer's 1998 actioner "Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D....

Steven Weisberg, a film editor whose career through the ’90s onward led him to collaborations with directors like Alfonso Cuarón, Barry Sonnenfeld and Barry Levinson, died Oct. 16 at the Motion Picture & Television Fund hospital in Woodland Hills, Calif. after several years of care for early onset Alzheimer’s. He was 68.
Weisberg’s death was confirmed by his ex-wife, Susan Ellicott.
Two of Cuarón’s early films, “Great Expectations” and “A Little Princess,” were edited by Weisberg. The two reunited for a foray into franchise filmmaking, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Weisberg also had a knack for editing studio comedies, with his first major feature credit being Ben Stiller’s directorial debut, the 1996 thriller “The Cable Guy.” Other notable credits include a string of Barry Sonnenfeld projects — the short-lived 2001 live-action series “The Tick” and his features “Big Trouble” and “Men in Black II” — as well as “Permanent Midnight,...

Larry Charles is no stranger to envelope-pushing comedy. As a writer on such subversive series as "Seinfeld" and "The Tick," as well as a director of shows like "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and the Sacha Baron Cohen films "Borat" and "Brüno," he's well-versed in the art of provocation.
Perhaps that's why he was drawn to the material which became the first musical comedy to be produced and distributed by A24, a film which features the family-friendly title of "Dicks: The Musical." The movie is a cinematic adaptation of a Upright Citizens Brigade NY show from 2014 with the even more family-friendly title of "F—ing Identical Twins," written and performed by Aaron Jackson and Josh Sharp.
Under Charles' direction, "Dicks" translates the scrappy, raucous, underground theatre vibes of "F—ing Identical Twins" while adding a little bit of star power to Jackson and Sharp's lead performances; the likes of D'Arcy Carden,...

Perhaps no other film has shaped Hollywood like "Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope" has since 1977, which is not bad for a movie whose crew regarded it as a joke during production. George Lucas' epic saga of space wizards, space fascists, and plucky everyday heroes long ago in a galaxy far, far away was ground-breaking in its VFX, yet its story looked to the past. Drawing from a myriad of sources across different cultures and genres, Lucas wove a fairy tale as elemental as any in its depiction of the eternal war between the forces of darkness and light.
Due to its success, the cast of "Star Wars" would forever be associated first and foremost with their roles in the film, sometimes to the chagrin of the actors who had led long and illustrious careers before that. For the likes of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels,...

The Boys is expected to have many of its core characters return for the series’ fourth season. But how many newcomers will the series add to its roster of Supes and bad guys?

Much of The Boys season 4 is still being kept under wraps. But a few details have come out about the series’ next chapter that have only intensified the hype. According to Variety, it was announced last year that Valorie Curry and Susan Hayward would be added to the cast. The two will be playing Supes Firecracker and Sister Sage respectfully, and according to the showrunner, they’ll fit right in with The Boys’ chaotic universe.
“These new Supes are some of the best & craziest ever written for The Boys,” showrunner Eric Kripke once said according to Games Radar.
