The Aliens are coming. The Aliens are coming. But they’ll be a long time coming. (And here we thought Invasion on Apple TV+ was a slow burn.) So it’s best to exercise patience while wading through the labyrinth of visionary science fiction, incidental mystery, sluggish soap opera, and existential dread that embodies 3 Body Problem, an ambitious attempt to make Liu Cixin’s acclaimed sci-fi trilogy come to life. This series may be getting extra scrutiny because it’s the latest project of literary adaptation by Game of Thrones’ executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (working with The Terror: Infamy’s Alexander Woo). They’ve taken their knocks over how they ended their treatment of George R.R. Martin’s still incomplete fantasy saga—somebody had to do it—but in this case, they deserve credit for making the story more accessible and linear than the discursive, sometimes impenetrable original text.

First cast by Shane Meadows, in This is England, Socha is about to star in the director’s period drama The Gallows Pole. He describes how acting saved him from a life of violence – and why he loves a madcap scheme
In a photographer’s studio in Derby, Michael Socha is wondering what he should wear. He’s got a good jumper on, but he doesn’t like his jeans. He’s brought a couple of shirts from his mum’s, but they need a bit of an iron. No stylist for Socha; he has the busy air of a man who’s popped in between shifts, which he has, sort of. He lives close by, and is always on the go, “here, there and everywhere”. Aside from acting, and family, he practises muay thai and kickboxing. He’s doing his belts. “I’m on brown two for kickboxing at the moment,...

James Cameron's "Aliens" is one of the greatest movie sequels of all time, but there's another version of the film that is even better, as far as the director himself is concerned. With a running time of 2 hours and 17 minutes, the theatrical cut of "Aliens" is already somewhat long for an action movie, even one that mixes in elements of sci-fi and horror. However, Cameron's preferred cut is the 1990 Special Edition, which clocks in even longer at 2 hours and 34 minutes.
Cameron explained his preference for the Special Edition via a video introduction in the "Alien Quadrilogy" box set, which housed nine DVDs in a...

Exclusive: Multi-award winning I May Destroy You and Chewing Gum creator Michaela Coel has signed with UTA in the U.S. The agency will represent the multi-hyphenate in all areas. In the UK, she will continue to be represented by Conor McCaughan and Michael Duff.
Coel was previously with CAA but the writer and performer left the agency after she said it “tried to push her” to strike a deal with Netflix for her semi-autobiographical series I May Destroy You.
Coel famously rejected Netflix’s multimillion-dollar offer due to the streamer refusing to budge on requiring a portion of back-end rights in return. The show was instead greenlit by the BBC and HBO, and brought the London-born star critical acclaim and global fame. The series scored nine Emmy nominations, with Coel winning for writing.

Ever since it lurched onto the silver screen in 1932, the zombie has become one of the most prominent horror figures in the genre. As they are responsible for numerous adaptations, retooling and reboots over the years, the popularity of the genre has waned over the years here in America which is pretty much barely an issue in Asia. With plenty of incredibly enjoyable titles in their long history that simply don’t get the publicity in America due to way too much coming out here already, it’s time to offer a spotlight on some of these under-appreciated and overlooked gems from Asia.
1. Zombie in a Haunted House
There’s not much to say about this one, as it is incredibly rare and might even be lost, so information about it is quite hard to come-by. However, that is not to say the film isn’t worth bringing up as...

E4 is calling it quits on sci-fi comedy drama The Aliens, which featured Michael Socha, Michaela Coel and Jim Howick...
Fans of Fintan Ryan's The Aliens will have to make do with just one serving of the sci-fi comedy, as E4 has decided against renewing it for a second series.
The story of Michael Socha's Lewis, a xenophobic guard working at the border between the human world and its impoverished alien ghetto where he meets Michaela Coel's Lilyhot and Jim Howick's Dominic, The Aliens was a youth-skewed comedy with a social message. Lewis is forced to learn to accept difference against a fast-moving backdrop of drug deals, pilled-up raves and organised crime.
Channel 4 praised the series as "fantastic" and "bold", but cited the number of new drama series commissioned for next year's slate as a reason for it not returning. We'll have...

E4’s new sci-fi comedy, from the producers of Misfits, aims for frantic, youth-skewed fun with a social conscience. Does it succeed?
Warning: this review contains spoilers.
The premise in a nutshell: aliens have come to earth. Handily for both the SFX budget and the purposes of political allegory, they look exactly like us but in shell suits. Humans mistreat them, call them “Morks”, force them to work in menial jobs and live in a lawless walled ghetto called Troy where they sell their hair for Earthlings to smoke as a recreational drug.
And so the stage is set for a social commentary that, thanks to confusing messaging, doesn’t quite arrive. At least not in episode one.
We’re clearly supposed to draw parallels between real-world xenophobia and The Aliens, but at this stage, it's hard to know what precise point is being made. It can...

E4 returns to top-form with a scintillating new comedy that sees writers repeat the success of Misfits…
The Aliens is certainly not your standard TV show. Set in the curious city of Troy, a segregated metropolis bearing resemblance to East/West Berlin during the Cold War, it kicks-off at a frenetic pace. The city’s duality exists due to a race of ‘aliens’ who show no distinction between humans. However, they exist as a sub-human species, with their hair being traded as a commodity by drug-lords (yes, you read that correctly).
Policing the borders of Troy is Louis (Michael Socha) who makes an alarming discovery early on in the show. After finding himself attracted to somewhat unsavoury videos of aliens on the web,...

The Aliens, from the producers of Misfits, is raucous fun with a social message. Here’s what to expect from E4’s new sci-fi comedy…
Whenever humans imagine being invaded by an alien race, it’s pretty much always a big deal. Flying saucers land and what follows are mind-blowing technological developments, intergalactic war, the White House being evaporated, or Sarah Jessica Parker’s head winding up on a Chihuahua’s body. Rarely is first contact no biggie.
Except in E4’s The Aliens, a new comedy sci-fi written by Fintan Ryan (Rev, In The Flesh, Never Better) set forty years after an extra-terrestrial craft crash-lands in the North Sea. Out of it came a few hundred humanoid aliens who travelled ashore on rafts and were, for a short time, integrated into British society before political resentment and intolerance eventually forced them into a ghetto. Known as Troy,...
