Amazon Studios’ feature film “Crime 101” is rounding out its cast.
Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nick Nolte, Tate Donovan, Babak Tafti, Payman Maadi, Deborah Hedwall, Devon Bostick, Paul Adelstein, Drew Powell and Matthew Del Negro have boarded the upcoming crime thriller, which will be released in theaters.
They join previously announced cast members Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Barry Keoghan, Monica Barbaro, Corey Hawkins and Halle Berry. Bart Layton wrote the script, which is based on a novella by Don Winslow, and will direct.
Per the logline, Winslow’s original story follows a series of high level jewelry thefts up and down the Pacific Coast Highway that have gone unsolved for years, mostly because the perpetrator has lived by a strict code he calls ‘Crime 101.’ Police attribute the thefts to the Colombian cartels, but Detective Lou Lubesnick’s gut says it’s the work of just one man. Fans may be surprised to learn that The Valley star, Daniel Booko, once appeared on the hit TV series, Hannah Montana. One of the best Disney Channel original TV shows ever, Hannah Montana wasn't just an excellent teen sitcom, it also helped launch Miley Cyrus into becoming a major label star who is still producing Grammy-winning tracks a decade after the show ended in 2011. The series stars Cyrus as a fictional version of herself, Miley Stewart, a normal girl who is secretly Hannah Montana, a world-famous pop singer.
Most episodes find Miley, her father Robby Ray (Cyrus' real-life father Billy Ray Cyrus), her brother Jackson (Jason Earles), and her best friend Lily (Emily Osment) trying to hide Miley's real identity from prying fans and helping Miley balance life as a star and a normal high school girl. Plenty of famous guest stars have appeared on Hannah Montana, and some viewers may remember Daniel Booko's appearance.

Oh, Canada debuting this week on the Croisette is high time to see lesser-seen Schrader on the Criterion Channel, who’ll debut an 11-title series including the likes of Touch, The Canyons, and Patty Hearst, while Old Boyfriends (written with his brother Leonard) and his own “Adventures in Moviegoing” are also programmed. Five films by Jean Grémillon, a rather underappreciated figure of French cinema, will be showing
Series-wise, there’s an appreciation of the synth soundtrack stretching all the way back to 1956’s Forbidden Planet while, naturally, finding its glut of titles in the ’70s and ’80s––Argento and Carpenter, obviously, but also Tarkovsky and Peter Weir. A Prince and restorations of films by Bob Odenkirk, Obayashi, John Greyson, and Jacques Rivette (whose Duelle is a masterpiece of the highest order) make streaming debuts. I Am Cuba, Girlfight, The Royal Tenenbaums, and Dazed and Confused are June’s Criterion Editions.

Fargo‘s fifth installment is filled with a unique array of characters, among which is Dave Foley‘s Danish Graves. Yes, his moniker resembles that of a breakfast pastry, but don’t expect any deeper explanations because none were provided. Introduced as “the bite to [Lorraine’s] bark,” Foley says, “he executes on the terrible things that Lorraine wants to have happen.” Played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lorraine is described as the Debt Queen of the Midwest, and she’s the mother-in-law of Juno Temple‘s Dot Lyon, the woman at the center of Noah Hawley‘s latest FX anthology chapter. As Lorraine’s right-hand man, Danish “gets his hands dirty,” Foley shares from the Calgary set. “He does it because he aspires to be Lorraine. I think he admires her and wants to be as ruthless and cold as she is, but it isn’t quite entirely in his nature.

Atari’s Haunted House was an historic game of many firsts, and it’s receiving a serious facelift. Originally released in 1982, it served as the low-rez predecessor of the survival horror genre, featuring a large (at least for the time) navigable mansion map, and a vulnerable pair of spooky eyes as the avatar, and the looming threat of ghosts, bats, spiders, and even just the darkness of an unlit room.
Since then, there have been a few returns to the Haunted House well, such as an Xbox Live remake back in 2010. Now, in 2023, Brazilian indie outfit Orbit Studio is taking on the newest incarnation of Atari’s classic, hoping to deliver a fresh new take on the modern action roguelite.

“Godfather of Harlem” is Epix’s new prestige drama starring Oscar winner Forest Whitaker as Bumpy Johnson, the real-life mob boss who rubbed elbows with notable figures like Lucky Luciano and Malcolm X. The series, set in the early 1960s, starts with Bumpy returning to Harlem after a 10-year stint in prison, finding his community in conflict with the local Italian mob, led by the Genovese crime family. There are elements of past popular gangster series like “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire,” including a sprawling cast, acclaimed directors, pulpy action sequences, and moral gray areas. Considering how much awards bodies love such shows, there is a stronger chance for “Godfather of Harlem” than one might think.

Best Drama Series “The Crown” “The Deuce” “The Handmaid’s Tale” “Game of Thrones” “Stranger Things”
Spoiler: “This Is Us”
Since the above predictions feature three returning series and a virtual lock in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” there’s a lot of room for spoilers. Not only could “This Is Us” very easily land its second straight nod for Best Drama Series, but series like “Mindhunter,” “The Good Doctor,” “Ozark,” “Mr. Robot,” “Better Call Saul,” and, yes, even “The Leftovers” could find their way into the final five. The Golden Globes like spotlighting new series, which benefits shows like “Mindhunter” and “Ozark” which haven’t been crowned by other awards shows just yet. The Globes could be the first, but we’re betting they won’t be able to resist David Simon’s “The Deuce” — given that all-star cast — and last year’s winner, “The Crown.” “Game of Thrones” and...

Look, I enjoyed Justice League. It was a fun and entertaining film. But, there's one major aspect of the film that bugged the living hell out of me! It was Superman's CGI upper lip!
When Henry Cavill was brought in for reshoots with Joss Whedon, he had to grow out a mustache for his role in the next Mission: Impossible film. Unfortunately, he was contractually obligated not to shave it, so Warner Bros. had to spend a shit-ton of money to remove it digitally.
It was even more unfortunate that it turned out to be some of the worst CGI in a major big-budget film that I've seen in a long time. As much as I enjoyed how the character of Superman was handled, that CGI upper lip was super freakin' distracting, creepy looking, and laughably bad. When previously talking about reshooting his Superman scenes with his mustache, Cavill told...
