Future Today has inked new content licensing deals with Gravitas Ventures, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Sony Pictures that will allow it to deliver more films through its Fawesome streaming platform.

Films and shows that will be coming to the platform include “Taxi,” “Hamlet,” “Queen of the North,” “Mean Guns,” “Two Rode Together,” “The Fog” and “Silent Hours,” among others.

“Fawesome’s growing audience has come to expect engaging and entertaining content,” said David Di Lorenzo, the Senior Vice President of Content Acquisitions & Partnerships at Future Today. “Our new deals with these major studios allow us to continue to expand our premium content offering while satisfying the wants of our audience.”

Max Beyond tells the story of Max, a young boy held captive in a research facility. Katee Sackhoff has built up something of a reputation for playing no-nonsense characters in the sci-fi genre. The actress scored her big break portraying Kara Thrace in the 2003 Battlestar Galactica miniseries, which proved so popular that it launched a full-blown revival that ran for four seasons, and over the course of those 76 episodes, it gained a well earned reputation as one of the finest TV shows of the modern era.

Sticking with sci-fi, Sackhoff has since gone on to lend support in Vin Diesel’s Riddick, play the Pink Ranger in Joseph Kahn’s stylish and gritty fan film Power/Rangers, headline low budget intergalactic adventure 2036 Origin Unknown and take top billing in Netflix’s existential and extraterrestrial drama Another Life, which was renewed last year for a second season.

Written by Michael Caissie (Hunter’s Moon) and adapted and directed by Rigoberto Castaneda (Blackout), Origin Unknown – aka Sin Origen – is a mash-up of horror and cartel-crime thriller, like Narcos had a baby with Let the Right One In and From Dusk Till Dawn. It’s a curious combo, and one that works very well, with a guy attempting to leave a cartel so he can move on to a normal life with his wife and kids. Of course, this doesn’t exactly go smoothly, and while this is all happening there’s a young girl being hunted by warriors with big ole medieval weapons. It takes gangsters and vampires and creates something pretty damn unique.

The future of British filmmaking may have its roots in British myth. Rebellion, the company behind properties such as Judge Dredd and Rogue Trooper, has unveiled Percival. It was made using developing virtual production techniques, for which there’s been growing interest as the technology continues to evolve.

Rooted in the classic Arthurian story, Percival was written by Toby Venables and Felicity Evans and directed by Hasraf Dulull (2036 Origin Unknown). It features Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley in the title role.

Genre festival has set a new opening film after cancelling its physical edition.

UK genre festival Frightfest has extended its programme and set a new opening film for this year’s edition after deciding to move the event online.

The festival was due to take place in London from October 22-25, opening with South Korean zombie thriller Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula, but was cancelled as a result of the pandemic.

Festfest 2020 will now take place virtually across the same dates, opening with the world premiere of US horror Held, directed by Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff, the filmmaking duo behind The Gallows franchise.

Origin Unknown is a Mexican shot horror feature. Featuring mystical creatures with fangs, this film is from Rigoberto Castañeda (Km-31). Focusing on a former Cartel drug-runner, this character is turning on his former employers. But, he has been targeted by a supernatural group, who hope to silence him forever. Also known as Sin Origen or Unsourced, this title stars: Daniel Martinez ("El Senor de los Cielos"), Lisette Morelos, Paulina Gil and many others. A trailer has just been released for Origin Unknown (linked below), along with a movie poster (found here). The North American graphic, from Raven Banner Entertainment, shows several of the film's characters. Many bare their fangs, other characters must use more medieval weapons, to fight. Framed in blood spray, this graphic highlights some of the film's action elements. Raven Banner will bring this title to North American audiences soon. A film from a prolific Mexican director, Origin Unknown looks to.

Toronto genre specialist Raven Banner will kick off the virtual Cannes market with sales rights to Andrew T Hunt’s Spare Parts, Jerren Lauder’s Stay Out Of The Attic and Mark Fehse’s Sky Shark.

Origin Unknown hails from director of Mexican horror smash Km-31.

Toronto-based genre specialist Raven Banner has bulked up its slate heading into the Cannes virtual market with sales rights to Benny Loves You, Origin Unknown, and The Pandemic Anthology.

The company will launch negotiations with international buyers on Rigoberto Castenada’s Origin Unknown (Sin Origen), about a former drug-runner who tries to buy his way out of the cartels.

When he takes his family to an armed safehouse, the site is soon overrun by unknown assailants with seemingly mystical powers. Castenada directed Mexican horror smash Km-31 and Netflix series Diablero.

A trailer has debuted for 2036 Origin Unknown starring BSG's Katee Sackhoff. The interstellar sci-fi mystery is directed by Hasraf Dulull with a screenplay by Gary Hall.

Gravitas ventures will be released the flick in select theaters and on VOD, June 8th.

Synopsis:

After the first manned mission to Mars ends in a deadly crash, mission controller Mackenzie 'Mack' Wilson (Sackhoff) assists an artificial intelligence system, A.R.T.I.

Their investigation uncovers a mysterious object under the surface of Mars, that could change the future of our planet as we know it.

The first trailer has been released for a Katee Sackhoff's upcoming sci-fi thriller 2036 Origin Unknown. The story centers on a Mission Controller named Mackenzie Wilson who is assisting in an artificial intelligence system, called A.R.T.I., "to uncover a mysterious object under the surface of Mars that could change the future of our planet as we know it."

As you'll see, the A.I. system goes rogue and Sackhoff finds herself in an intensely nightmarish situation. The film comes from VFX designer and filmmaker Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull and even though I'm not completely sold on the movie, I'll still give it a shot. Watch the trailer for yourself and tell us what you think.

2036 Origin Unknown is set to be released on June 8, 2018.

"You're living in his world now." Gravitas Ventures has debuted the trailer for one of the sci-fi feature films from VFX designer and up-and-coming filmmaker Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull. This one is titled 2036 Origin Unknown, and it was made and completed before HaZ's other feature film The Beyond (watch the trailer for that), but is being released after. For 2036 Origin Unknown, HaZ cast sci-fi veteran Katee Sackhoff as Mission Controller Mackenzie Wilson. The plot follows her as she assists an artificial intelligence system, called A.R.T.I., to uncover a mysterious object under the surface of Mars that could change the future of our planet as we know it. This has some cool VFX and big space-y moments, but I'm still not completely sold on it. The main AI story seems a bit lackluster overall, but I might still give this a shot anyway. Content Media has bolstered its Cannes slate with worldwide sales rights to Seth Larney’s elevated sci-fi 2067.

President of Film Jamie Carmichael and executive vice-president of sales and distribution Jonathan Ford will introduce the project excluding Australia and Canada to buyers later this month.

Larney will direct 2067 from his original screenplay that takes place on an earth ravaged by climate change as mankind looks to the future to solve the problems of the present.

The sci-fi is set to commence production later this year in Australia and is described as cross between Arrival, Moon, and The Machine.

Lisa Shaunessy and Leonie Mansfield of Arcadia serve as producers with Phyllis Laing of Buffalo Gal Pictures, and Kate Croser of Kojo Entertainment. Michael Rymer serves as executive producer.

Hasraf "HaZ" Dulull was a visual effects supervisor who worked on movies such as The Dark Knight. He decided to stretch his muscles with some eye-popping shorts that impressed, and soon producers were giving him shots at feature films.

He recently wrapped on his second feature, Origin Unknown, starring Katee Sackhoff, but his first movie was The Beyond, a faux-documentary sci-fi thriller that he wrote, directed and edited, as well as conjuring up the majority of the visual effects (with support from VFX houses with whom he has relationships).

There are certain actors from the reboot of Battlestar Galactica that will always carry the legacy of the classic science fiction show from the start of the millennium. Tricia Helfer will always be Six; James Callis will always be Baltar; and Katee Sackhoff will always be Starbuck. But after her stint on Longmire and her roles in Riddick, Oculus, and Don’t Knock Twice, Sackhoff has continued to build up a varied body of word.
