Roger Carel, the French voice of Astérix in all previous animated productions, had originally retired from acting when this film was announced, but agreed to return to voice the character one last time.
The Roman family sent to the Mansion of the Gods against the husband's wishes plays a far larger role in this movie than in the comic book. While the husband, Petiminus, is very similar in appearance to his comic book counterpart, the wife, Dulcia, looks quite different, probably inspired by her voice actress Géraldine Nakache. The son, Apeldjus, has no comic book counterpart.
