Deadline (via Toonado.com) has learned that Shrek 5 is now set to open on Wednesday, December 23, 2026. The long-awaited sequel had originally been scheduled for July 1, 2026, so while this delay isn't too big, those extra five months are going to sting for impatient Shrek fans.

On the plus side, Minions 3 has shifted from June 30, 2027, to that July 1 slot. That's a huge jump forward and an indication work on the movie must be progressing well.

It's also been revealed that an untitled Illumination event movie has moved from March 19, 2027 to Minions 3's vacant June date.

Shrek 5 is being released to coincide with DreamWorks' 25th anniversary, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz all set to reprise their respective roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. Shrek franchise veterans Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon will be at the movie's helm.

Delays and setbacks are a part of the creative process of filmmaking, but that doesn’t stop them from stinging any less. This is why the news that Shrek 5 has been postponed is heartbreaking. This said flick would serve as the fifth installment in the fan-favorite animated film series, and was previously expected to hit the screens by next year, i.e. 2026.

It has been years since the Green Ogre graced his presence on the screens with something new, so the anticipation and excitement surrounding the same’s release was pretty high as well. It has been nearly five years since a "Star Wars" movie graced the silver screen. That movie was "Star Wars: Episode IX -- The Rise of Skywalker" and it brought the sequel trilogy to a close on an uneven note. What just about everyone seems to agree on is that the second and third entries in that trilogy were divisive, leaving Lucasfilm on uncertain ground when it comes to the future of the franchise. The future is, slowly but surely, starting to come into focus, with several "Star Wars" feature projects currently in development. And while much remains mysterious, it does seem that Disney and Lucasfilm have learned at least one lesson from the recent past.

Previously, Disney had not one but two new "Star Wars" movies dated for 2026, which seemed like a mistake. We'll get into the why in a moment.

After what feels like an Ice Age of waiting, our favorite prehistoric crew is gearing up for another frosty adventure; you heard it right, Ice Age 6 has officially a release date. Disney is shaking things up by breaking the franchise’s usual spring and summer release by sliding into the winter slot previously reserved for an untitled Star Wars movie.

Now, fans can expect more hijinks from Manny, Sid, and Diego, in addition to Scrat’s struggle to score the elusive acorn in Ice Age 6. Well, it’s been long eight, chilly years since the last big-screen installment, and excitement is at the top.

Ice Age 6 will be released on December 18, 2026, which means fans will see the trio—Manny, Sid, and Diego—once again after more than ten years.

Another day, another hitch in the process to make a new Star Wars movie. Per TheWrap, Disney has removed an upcoming Star Wars film originally set to land in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026 from its schedule, replacing it with Ice Age 6. The movie was probably the long-incoming film about Rey (Daisy Ridley), who was introduced in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. That movie has gone through a lot of hiccups behind the scenes, with the latest being the exit of writer Steven Knight.

Will the Rey movie ever come to fruition, or will it join the pile of forgotten or discarded Star Wars movies, including never-made projects from of Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins,Rian Johnson and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss? Why is it apparently so freaking hard for the people at Lucasfilm to decide on their next move?

The Hollywood Reporter polled some insiders on that question.

Over the weekend, it was announced by Variety that a Star Wars film was bumped off the December 2026 release date for Ice Age 6. While we don't officially know what this film was, all sources seem to point out that this was the Rey Skywalker film setting up the return of Daisy Ridley to the franchise and directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

And I'm okay with this news.

There are several back-and-forth reports around the signing of Simon Kinberg taking on the next trilogy, which we discussed here in the "I'll believe it when I see it" category of news. Some seem to hint that it will be a Rey trilogy, which makes sense as she can be a major focus to build the next Star Wars era for a new generation.
