It’s a fact: Staffers at A+E Factual Studios, producer of nonfiction fare including Hulu’s Dance Moms: A New Era and Lifetime’s The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, have unionized with WGA East for collective bargaining.

More than 150 employees have called on A+E to voluntarily recognize their union voluntarily, and a majority have signed union cards, Wgae said today — exactly one year after the Writers Guild strike settlement was reached.

The Writers Guild of America East is continuing its efforts to organize workers in the largely non-union nonfiction realm.

The union announced Monday that it is attempting to unionize around 150 workers at A+E Factual Studios, the documentary and nonfiction TV producer behind Dance Moms: A New Era, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, History’s Greatest Mysteries and Cold Case Files. Bloomberg has reported that writers and producers at the shingle that A+E Networks describes as its “IP creation powerhouse” are included in the drive.

The WGA East says that organizing workers have asked the company for voluntary recognition and that a majority of workers have signed union cards. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to A+E Factual Studios for comment.

In a letter explaining their reasons for organizing, a group of organizers singles out “tight turnarounds and unrealistic expectations from network executives” that lead to long hours.

It’s been more than a decade since Lifetime’s “Dance Moms” premiered in 2011, serving as the first taste of unscripted reality television for its millions of loyal viewers — many of which were children during its eight-year run through 2019, and are now college-aged young adults whose only connection to the show today is through Jojo Siwa’s meme-worthy music career.

Well, fans that have have found themselves nostalgic for “Dance Moms” in recent years, re-watching the show’s most unhinged clips on TikTok (dance instructor Abbey Miller was TikTok virality gold before the social media platform even existed) are in luck. A reboot of the beloved reality show, titled “Dance Moms: A New Era,” arrived on Hulu Tuesday night. All 10 episodes of the first season are now available to stream online.

If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.

But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook.
