Nothing fits the music documentary format quite so compellingly as a life cut tragically short. In addition to the ready-made dramatic arc, a subject who leaves this mortal coil before their time usually also leaves a certain amount of mystery in their wake, providing ample grist for filmmakers (and the folks they interview) to chew on.

We can't wait for Netflix's November 20th debut of "Marvel's Jessica Jones" starring Krysten Ritter as a superhero who becomes a private detective. The noirish series, which received a great reception at New York Comic Con, costars Carrie-Anne Moss and former Dr. Who David Tennant.
Other Netflix originals premiering in November: "River," starring Stellan Skarsgård as a detective haunted by visions of his murdered colleague; the Aziz Ansari comedy series "Master of None;" and "W/Bob and David," which re-teams Bob Odenkirk and David Cross.
As for movies, you might have missed Keira Knightley in "Anna Karenina" (2012), which first paired "Ex Machina's" Alicia Vikander and Domhnall Gleeson. Also new, Nicolas Cage's "The Runner" and documentaries "Idris Elba: Mandela, My Dad and Me," "Call Me Lucky" and "Do I Sound Gay?"
Here's the entire list of what's new on Netflix in November.

As the comments section for our review of the Kurt Cobain conspiracy docudrama "Soaked In Bleach" indicate, lots of people have very strong feelings regarding the death of the Nirvana frontman. The film from Benjamin Statler uses interviews and re-enactments to investigate the questions around Cobain's demise, as seen through the Pov of private investigator Tom Grant. The movie suggests that there's sufficient evidence to re-open the case, but Courtney Love, who has been implicated by some conspiracy theorists for being involved in or having information about alleged details of Cobain's death, is trying to halt cinemas from showing "Soaked In Bleach." Read More: Exclusive: Courtney Love Hires A Private Investigator In Clip From Kurt Cobain Docu-Drama 'Soaked In Bleach' Via her laywers, the musician/actress has sent cease-and-desist letters to theaters showing the film (which is available on Vimeo). Part of the letter reads: “The Film falsely.

Courtney Love's lawyers sent a cease-and-desist letter to the makers of the Kurt Cobain film Soaked in Bleach, Deadline reports. Unlike the HBO documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, which had Love's full blessing, Bleach is an "unauthorized docudrama" that relies on the testimony of private investigator Tom Grant and reenactments of Cobain's life. Crucially, it also explores conspiracy theories that Love killed Cobain. "The Film falsely presents a widely and repeatedly debunked conspiracy theory that accuses Ms. Cobain of orchestrating the death of her husband Kurt Cobain," the lawyer's letter reads (the entirety of which can be read here.) "Any alleged factual representation to the contrary would be knowingly false, and hence intentionally and maliciously defamatory." The Seattle police department reexamined the evidence in 2014 and ruled Cobain's death a suicide. The producers of Soaked in Bleach have responded in kind, calling the letter "a cowardly attack on the...

Earlier this year, Courtney Love - the widow of Kurt Cobain - gave her support to the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, a film that chronicled the life of the deceased Nirvana frontman. However, it turns out those same sentiments are not shared towards the new Benjamin Statler-directed Cobain-centric docudrama Soaked In Bleach, and now she's making efforts to shut the movie down. According to Deadline, Courtney Love's attorney has penned a letter to movie theaters around the country explaining that Soaked In Bleach "falsely presents a widely and repeatedly debunked conspiracy theory that accuses Ms. Cobain of orchestrating the death of her husband Kurt Cobain," and requests that the exhibitors stop their plans to show the movie. Taking things up a notch, there is claim that the movie actually represents a defamatory work against Courtney Love's character, and that she is entitled "to both actual and presumed damages.

Welcome to Outrage Watch, HitFix's (almost) daily rundown of entertainment-related kerfuffles. Not anxious enough already? Get your fix of righteous indignation below, and stay posted for outrage updates throughout the week. Courtney Love wants you to see the new Kurt Cobain documentary. Just not that new Kurt Cobain documentary. Lawyers for the Nirvana frontman's widow order have issued a cease and desist letter aimed at theaters showing the Benjamin Statler-directed documentary "Soaked in Bleach," which -- much like Nick Broomfield's notorious 1999 doc "Kurt & Courtney" -- insinuates that Love may have had something to do with her late husband's death. Dated June 11, the letter comes closely on the heels of the Brett Morgen-directed Cobain documentary "Montage of Heck," which was produced by Cobain's daughter Frances Bean Cobain and which Love has publicly supported. "This letter shall serve as notice to [redacted] that the Film portrays Ms. Cobain in a...

Exclusive: The widow of the Nirvana frontman was a very vocal supporter of the recent HBO documentary Montage Of Heck, but she’s no fan of another film about her relationship with her late husband. The legal team representing Courtney Love has issued a cease-and-desist order against theaters showing the controversial Benjamin Statler-directed docudrama Soaked in Bleach, a look at the death of Kurt Cobain that was ruled a suicide in 1994. “The Film falsely presents a…...

Like every other socially outcast junior high kid in the early 90s, I was a Nirvana fan. Yet I never deified Kurt Cobain, and accepted his tragic fate with grace while continuing to enjoy his music, which is a reaction that I believe Cobain would have supported. By the time I got to high school, one of my best friends was a rabid Cobain murder conspiracy theorist, who would talk our ears off with speculations about Courtney Love arranging Cobain’s murder because Cobain was going to divorce Love while leaving her without a penny, and how Cobain’s death while married was the only option for Love to see any of that sweet Nirvana money. My friend would have had a field day with “Soaked in Bleach,” a sleek procedural docudrama that examines pretty much every conceivable detail of Cobain’s death as if it was the Kennedy assassination.

Last weekend, the new releases offered a lot of variety. The R-rated action-comedy Spy was a somewhat surprising first place finisher, taking in just about $30 million. An impressive number for any R-rated film, but not exactly a blockbuster.Still, I admit I didn’t give Spy much of a shot to win the weekend and I was proven wrong. However, I feel much more confident in my prediction of this weekends box office winner: Soaked in Bleach.
I’m just kidding! Obviously it’s Jurassic World. (Although fans of Kurt Cobain may want to look into the limited release documentary Soaked in Bleach). Let’s take a closer look at Jurassic World and it’s only other competition this weekend.

While the acclaimed documentary "Kurt Cobian: Montage Of Heck" celebrates the life of the late Nirvana frontman, it does not cover his death, with the film concluding two weeks before he would commit suicide. But that's where the docu-drama "Soaked In Bleach" fills in the gap, digging into the curious circumstances around Cobain's passing, and we have exclusive clip from the film. Read More: Sundance Review: 'Kurt Cobain: Montage Of Heck' Is An Entertaining And Moving Rock Star Portrait Directed by Benjamin Statler, the movie centers on private investigator Tom Grant's unique perspective on Cobain's death. He was hired by Courtney Love to find her husband only days before he was discovered dead in their Seattle home. Grant believes there is enough empirical and circumstantial evidence to suggest foul play was involved, and as you'll see in the sequence below, there was something that raised a red...

The reenactments add an off-putting artificiality to Soaked in Bleach, but otherwise Statler's film is a fairly solid representation of Grant's version of the truth (just do not expect any other opinions to be represented). This is a documentary that will most likely re-enliven the debates surrounding Cobain's death; it will also provide Love's enemies with all the more reason to despise her. For Love's fan base, however, Soaked in Bleach will be nothing short of sheer heresy.

Now that documentary "Montage Of Heck" has painted a picture of Kurt Cobain's tumultuous life, there is bound to be renewed interest in his controversial death. Using "Jinx"-like re-enactments, interviews and voice-overs, "Soaked in Bleach" appears to make the case that Courtney Love had Kurt murdered and then covered it up by staging a suicide. With two dueling Kurt Cobain documentaries premiering within months of each other, fans are bound to take sides. "Soaked in Bleach" comes out June 11. ‘Soaked in Bleach’ Trailer: The Kurt Cobain Death Conspiracy Docudrama Starring That Guy From ‘Lost’
We’ve already had one great documentary spinning theories about Kurt Cobain‘s death (Nick Broomfield’s Kurt & Courtney) and one great dramatization of the last days of the Nirvana frontman (Gus Van Sant’s Last Days), but now there’s a (possibly great?) movie coming out that combines both approaches. Today is the 20th anniversary of when Cobain’s body was found dead, so of course the first trailer for this new docudrama has just arrived online. Titled Soaked in Bleach, it combines interviews with people associated with the case, including private detective Tom Grant, with reenactments featuring actors such as Lost‘s Daniel Roebuck as private detective Tom Grant. Others in the drama side’s cast play Cobain (Tyler Brian), Courtney Love (Sarah Scott), Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson (Kale Clauson), Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan (Tor Brown), Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes (David Daskal), Earth front man Dylan Carlson (August Emerson) and a character...
