If you’ve been keeping up with Star Wars news recently, you’ll know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte,’ the latest addition to the franchise, has been canceled after just 8 episodes. The show faced controversy even before its premiere, and its poor quality, combined with a hefty $180 million budget, only made matters worse for everyone involved.
Although the show started off well, with viewership numbers just slightly below ‘Ahsoka,’ it quickly began to lose viewers week after week, and criticism on social media intensified.
Despite its cancellation, The Acolyte has managed to gather a devoted fanbase that’s now pushing for Disney+ to renew the show. The hashtag #SaveTheAcolyte is trending on X (formerly Twitter), and a Change.org petition has already garnered 43,342 signatures. But what are the chances of the show actually getting renewed?
Historically, fan campaigns have successfully brought back several shows. When Fox canceled Lucifer after its...

If you’re following Star Wars news in the last couple of days, you know that ‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ – the latest installment in the franchise, has been canceled after only 8 episodes. The show suffered from controversy even before it aired and its lack of quality on top of a $180 million budget only worsened the situation for everyone involved.
The show started out strong, with viewership numbers being only slightly worse than ‘Ahsoka’s,’ but week after week it was losing viewers, and the criticism on social media only became worse.
Still, the show managed to amass a loyal fandom that’s now petitioning for Disney+ to renew the show. The hashtag #SaveTheAcolyte is trending on X and a petition that was started on Change.org currently has 43,342 signatures. So what are the odds of the show getting renewed?
Well, if you look historically, fans did manage to resurrect some notable shows after being canceled.

Temuera Morrison, best known for playing Boba Fett in the Star Wars franchise, and Spider-Man actor Jacob Batalon have joined Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa in The Wrecking Crew, an action comedy from Amazon MGM Studios.
Frankie Adams, Miyavi and Stephen Root are also joining the crew roster, which additionally includes Claes Bang.
Blue Beetle filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto is directing the feature, which heads into production in October in New Zealand.
Crew has a script by Jonathan Tropper and follows two half-brothers — one a loose cannon cop (Momoa) and the other a disciplined Navy Seal (Bautista). After 20-odd years of bad blood, they must work together to unravel the conspiracy behind their father’s murder in Hawaii.

Are you one of those people who finished The Expanse and has been in an unmoored state of existence ever since? In the past few years, the beloved sci-fi saga by James S.A. Corey wrapped up with Leviathan Falls and the short story collection Memory's Legion, and even the television show by Syfy and Amazon Prime Video ended its run after six seasons. What's an Expanse fan to do in these dry, fictionally destitute times?
Why, start reading a new series of course! And on that front, I have very good news: James S.A. Corey — that's The Expanse co-writing team of Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck — have a new book out. The Mercy of Gods is the start of a brand new series from the authors, called The Captive's War. It has enough similar DNA that you'll probably enjoy it if you liked The Expanse, while still being a...

Science fiction is probably the trickiest genre to nail, be it literature or cinema. While it offers you endless possibilities, you also have to put in a lot of effort to properly set up a world and then dream up a story exciting enough to appeal to your audience. And it’s doubly difficult when it comes to short films. All you have is about ten or twenty minutes. You’ve got to introduce your audience to a world that’s not theirs or something that doesn’t happen in this world, and then tell a story that makes them think. This is an extremely difficult feat to achieve, and the reason I’m being this emphatic is director Nick Azzaro’s short film, Alpha 27, in under ten minutes, has managed to do everything that I’ve mentioned already.
The biggest challenge here is to draw the audience into its world.

Halo Season 3 Needs Amazon To Finish The Fight - Main Image
The Halo TV show is dead in the water after two seasons under Paramount. A controversial adaptation of the iconic video game franchise, Halo Season 2 ended on a huge cliffhanger that finally put the iconic Master Chief on the titular ringworld.
Despite its incredibly rough first season, Paramount’s Halo season did have some redeeming qualities. For starters, the action scenes—even in the pilot episode—were brilliant with Season 2’s battle against The Arbiter being one of the most engaging sci-fi scenes in modern TV. Unfortunately, the show was held down by its character development, mostly surrounding the behaviour of its Master Chief.
In a review by our sister site Gfinity, our reviewer said: “[Halo Season 2] uneven experience, even if it sets up a bombastic third season.” With some fantastic set pieces, strong character development for its secondary cast and...

Canadian dramas like Saving Hope, Broadchurch, or Burden of Truth often have a certain flair.
Fox acquired the US rights to Murder in Small Town, which looks intriguing. It stars Kristen Kruek and Rossif Sutherland.
Many of us grew up watching Kruek on TV, and she's played several types of roles.
However, since she played Joanna Chang in Burden of Truth, it appears she's ideal for crime-solving in small towns.
Check out everything we know so far about Murder in a Small Town.

Exclusive: Marvin Jones III (Halo), Michael Xavier (Wild Cards) and Dominic Burgess (Palm Royale) have joined the cast of Prime Video‘s graphic novel series, Criminal, in recurring roles. They join the previously announced leads: Charlie Hunnam, Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, Kadeem Hardison and Logan Browning.
Criminal is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Brubaker and Sean Phillips.
Jones III will play Chester, crime boss Sebastian Hyde’s (John Hawkes) fearsome chief enforcer. Much like a seven-foot-tall man becoming a basketball player whether he likes it or not, Chester was drafted into the criminal life for his size and fearsomeness. He’s no sadist, relying on his reputation and intelligence to get his way. He speaks softly most of the time, but the threat of sudden and deadly violence is always there.

This article contains spoilers for Gotham by Gaslight: The Kryptonian Age.
You know the scene. Jon and Martha Kent are making their way home when a bright light illuminates the night sky and a meteor crashes to the ground. The couple investigate the impact and find not space rock, but a young child.
Superhero fans know this moment well. It’s the turning point where infant Kal-El arrives on Earth from Krypton and begins his journey toward becoming Superman. In Gotham by Gaslight‘s telling, however, the Kents exit not a beat-up truck, but a covered wagon. And they travel not through Kansas but the Kansas Territory—under the watchful eye of Chief Black Condor, leader of the Indigenous sovereigns of the land.
For years, DC Comics‘ Elseworlds line allowed creators to reimagine Superman and Batman in different contexts, leading to classics such as Batman and Dracula: Red Rain and Superman: Red Son.

Storytelling has been a facet of social behavior since the days of fingerpainting on dimly lit cavern walls.
Hopefully, the grunting, scratching cave audience didn't bludgeon the artist to death with makeshift clubs when a bad story resulted.
Modern fans can get downright mean over aspects of their favorite series.
Sometimes, the showrunners acknowledge the outcry -- sometimes, they don't.
Netflix's The Witcher and Amazon Prime's Rings of Power are perfect examples of what happens when writers ignore the fans, with both seeing a drastic drop in viewership.
The Rings of Power ended the season with only a third of its original audience.
Then again, for every failure, there is a success story.
For the most part, Shogun stuck to the books and never had to face the wrath of the fans.
It doesn't take much to reason the rest of the way through this balancing act, with millions...

Since the days of finger painting stories on cave walls, storytellers have known the secret of telling a quality fable. If your characters have flaws, they will resonate, even the villains.
One-dimensional characters just don't cut it, even if they're relegated to a distant, supporting role.
Some pundits are decrying the use of the deeply flawed character as an overdone trope that should die an ignominious death.
Yet, here we are, with the most acutely compromised characters reigning supreme on our TV screens and reverberating throughout our social interactions.
The art of creating the 'grey' character isn't going away any time soon, as this list of 13 deeply flawed characters clearly demonstrates.

If you've never sought out the truth behind sci-fi movies and TV shows, you've probably never believed what was happening on your screen. From traveling through time and space to discovering aliens, the genre can have a lot of twists and turns that are hard to imagine in real life.
But you'd be surprised how far science has come and how close humanity is to making these fictional stories real. Here are 10 sci-fi TV shows and movies that aren't true, but could have happened in real life.
Alien (1979)
Ridley Scott's Alien is one of those movies you don't want to believe could ever come true. However, there is one detail that does seem realistic. If space travel becomes as common as we think it will, the spaceships won't all look like a brand new yacht in the sky. The luxury ships will be for the rich, while the rest...

The hate for each of these projects has gained as much of a cult following as the shows themselves. But how much of it is justified?
Here are seven shows that are much better than critics and audiences say they are.
7. Imposters (2017)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 93%
Where to watch: Prime Video, Fandango at Home
The list begins with Imposters, a well-crafted dark comedy about a con artist who seduces victims and takes their money, which, unlike many of the following shows, is currently receiving warm reviews. Unfortunately, the ratings were so low at the time of its release that the show was canceled after only two seasons.
6. Dark Matter (2015)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 89%
Where to watch: The CW
Dark Matter is often compared to a low-budget rip-off of The Expanse since both premiered in 2015. However, the show in question raised equally interesting ethical questions about the identity of the protagonists, and coupled with some good action scenes,...

From the tiniest micro-organism to the far reaches of the universe, sci-fi adaptations have made a triumphant splash across multiple streaming platforms. For decades, the collective groans that routinely followed book-to-tv adaptation announcements were a given.
At the same time, many science fiction books are so steeped in lore, character motivations, politics, and scientific complexities that converting prose to a "show but don't tell" format is a tall task.
Star Trek, for instance, has historically been pretty cut and dry with its science. A phaser will vaporize you, and a transporter will, well, transport you.
Now, imagine explaining the three-body problem from a show but don't tell approach.
Thankfully, the rash of exciting new sci-fi adventures solves these riddles with filmmakers and writers who are passionate about the material.

9 Years Later, Prime Video's Best Sci-Fi Show is Still Unmatched (and Its 95% Tomatometer Proves It)
Sci-fi is a great way to deal with controversial issues like politics without getting into controversial issues like politics. That was one of the great successes of what is still (in my humble opinion) the best sci-fi show on Prime. But I'm not the only one who thinks so. The show has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 85% rating on IMDb.
Space exploration of real-world issues
Every once in a while, a show comes along that manages to draw us into a fictional world in such a way that it feels real. Think back to how fast your heart was beating when you watched the happenings in Westeros and you'll understand what I mean.

"For All Mankind" is one of the best shows of the streaming era, as well as one of the best science-fiction shows of all time. The series takes place in an alternate reality where the Soviet Union lands on the Moon first, which kickstarts an escalating chain of events that puts humanity on a path to the stars. It serves as a grounded bridge between our reality and the sci-fi future of shows like "The Expanse" or "Star Trek." In just four seasons, the show's characters have gone from dealing with the complications of landing a craft on the Moon to the first armed conflict on the Moon, colonizing Mars, and even lassoing an asteroid.
It is a stunning achievement, though not a hugely surprising one considering the show comes from Ronald D. Moore, who already contributed greatly to the genre with his work on "Star Trek: The Next Generation,...

Five years ago, a serial killer terrorized Chicago. Detective Dan Lawson was assigned to the case but couldn’t bring the killer to justice. It left him a badly damaged man, drinking on the job and obsessed with revenge. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.
In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.
Things, of course, don’t go well.

Deadline already told you two years ago that A Simple Favor 2 was happening with Paul Feig back in the director’s chair and Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick starring, but today Amazon MGM Studios has made it official that the movie is a go and with the original cast members returning, read Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.

There is no such thing as a bad year for movies. And 2024 is already shaping up to be no exception.
As we write this intro, it's still fairly early in the year, but we've already seen plenty of terrific films. Some of them are currently in theaters. Some of them are streaming or available for rental. A few of them have played film festivals and will find their way into some kind of release this year. But all of the entries on this list of the best movies of 2024 so far have one thing in common: they're worth your time.
Comedies, science fiction epics, documentaries, action films, romances, animation -- this list already has it all, and we're just getting started. Let's dive in..

Exclusive: Michael Irby has signed with Brillstein Entertainment Partners for representation.
Irby is coming off two hit shows that ended their runs in 2023, FX’s Mayans M.C. and HBO’s Barry.
In the Kurt Sutter and Elgin James-co-created motorcycle drama Mayans. M.C., Irby played the series regular role of Obispo ‘Bishop’ Losa across the show’s 5 seasons. The Sons of Anarchy spinoff follows the titular M.C. based in the fictional California border town of Santo Padre. Bishop held leadership positions including former Presidente and Vice Presidente of the club’s Santo Padre Charter. The show is connected to Soa via the character of Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera), Bishop’s cousin.
In Barry, Irby played polite Bolivian mobster Cristobal Sifuentes across the crime drama’s four seasons. Cristobal allies with his criminal associate NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) merging their organizations and later their...

Patience is a virtue, especially if you're a sci-fi fan.
When it comes to genre TV, science fiction and sci-fi adjacent programs are often saved when unceremoniously dumped by a network.
Jericho, Lucifer, The Expanse, and Stargate Sg-1 all found new life after cancellation. Today, Snowpiercer joins that list.
AMC Networks announced today that it has acquired the exclusive U.S. linear and streaming rights to all four seasons of the post-apocalyptic drama series Snowpiercer.
The first three seasons of the critically acclaimed drama will stream on AMC+ later this year, leading up to the series’ season four premiere on AMC and AMC+ in early 2025.
This should come as excellent news for TV Fanatics, as the show always drove discussion and fueled passionate viewers with much to say.
Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train,...

Author Stephen Graham Jones started his Indian Lake Trilogy with the novel My Heart Is a Chainsaw, which has an audiobook version that was read by Cara Gee, who may be best known for her work on the TV shows Strange Empire and The Expanse. The second novel in the series was Don’t Fear the Reaper, and the audiobook for that one had a full cast that included Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Jane Levy (Evil Dead 2013). The Indian Lake Trilogy is set to wrap up with The Angel of Indian Lake, which will be published on March 26th – and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that the audiobook for this one is also going to have a full cast, with one of the cast members being the legendary Stephen King! Pre-orders can be made at This Link.

Damsel is the kind of Netflix movie that would feel right at home in the 2010s. It may be an original fairy tale of sorts, but it pulls from the same kind of girl power feminism that drove the “edgy” retellings of popular fairy tales like Snow White and the Huntsmen and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters 10 years ago.
On the surface, Damsel might seem like a fresh and exciting take on a centuries old story. A young woman (Elodie) marries a prince to help her kingdom, but instead of living happily ever after, she gets sacrificed to a dragon and has to fight her way out of its lair. Despite the promise of that premise, the movie itself feels like such a shallow representation of what a story like this could be.
The very first moments of Damsel involve a dramatic voiceover from Millie Bobby Brown’s Elodie assuring the...

It turns out 2024 is filled with turmoil, if the Star Trek historical timeline is to be believed. Buckle up!
“A lot—a lot—happens historically in Star Trek’s 2024, crucially important events that go on to not just shape Earth as it is in the early 21st century, but form foundational pillars for the contemporary Star Trek timeline. It’s a year we’ve heard about, and visited, multiple times across several Trek shows. So what’s exactly wild about it?...

We don't always talk enough about visual effects when we talk about the components that make up a great film or television series. Quality writing, acting, cinematography, and production design are essential and mutually complementary, of course. But the realm of VFX is equally crucial in the way that it simultaneously informs and is informed by those other disciplines, often constituting the key ingredient that allows a scene or a shot to accomplish its goal -- whether that goal is steeped in authenticity, scariness, wonder, tension, or surrealism.
In that sense, comparing the before and after of shots featuring computer generated imagery (CGI) and effects can be highly instructional. Thanks to the showcase reels released by many VFX studios and behind-the-scenes featurettes, it's possible to get a side-by-side glimpse at what several great TV shows look like prior to the addition of digital effects. The comparisons are sometimes amusing, sometimes revelatory,...
