- TriviaMovie title ("Devil's herb" for English) addresses about Stramonium. Also called Scopolamine or Burundanga, it's a powerful drug used (powdered) in Santeria and Voodoo for black magic rituals, capable not only to paralyze a man (or woman) but to make him extremely suggestive to any order, overriding his will and turning him in slave or mindless zombie. Burundanga is used too by the Latin street gangs in express kidnaps, for giving him the powdered and going with the victim to a bank to empty all the account. Later the kidnapped is left alone in the street or in his house, without memories of the happened.

The "influencer" Hama Zaida (8 Moroccan surnames) is one of the protagonists of this horror film with zombies, voodoo rituals and demons. Mauro (Hamza Zaidi) , an influencer on tour in Colombia, along with his manager Santiago (Max Merieges), meets the vulnerable and beautiful Erika (Lina Cardona), who asks them for help to fix her car that is broken down in an inhospitable and spooky road surrounded by the Colombian jungle. Seeing that the situation is not improving, then she invites them to her house. Santiago and Mauro decide to take her to her remote and sinister house. Both, dazzled by her beauty, intend to seduce her and spend the night there, but terrible events take place. The guests become suspicious of the house, meanwhile Mauro finds a lot of of voodoo paraphernalia and other bizarre objects. You will believe !. Fearing is believing !. What have we here -mind games, mumbo jumbo or creepy fact ?.
Devil's Weed fails to achieve terror, or any of its goals as a horror film in general. Set in a Colombian house adding tension to the creepy atmosphere, this low key horror thriller draws on the local traditions of voodoo. The script of the film really reminds one of a TV movie, not only the technical section, and its low budget, while most of the film has scenes with the surprising characters rolling around, alternating between typical horror elements and some situations do not get to have an explanation to reach an ending that was beginning to gain strength, despite the fact that the revelations are executed very weakly, so that then a plot twist arises that ends up not making any sense.
The film tries to follow the style of the much better ¨Ian Softley's The Skeleton Key¨ stars Kate Hudon, Gena Rowlands, also starring a strange visitor going to a creepy mansion where terrifying Voodoo situations take place; however, The Devil's Grass fails in all the necessary requirements to be a good horror movie. Containing lousy performances from a mostly unknown cast, so protagonists are not liked, nor do they generate empathy in the viewer enough to worry about them, such as: Max Marieges as Santiago, Hamza Zaidi as Mauro and standing out only the attractive beauty of Lina Cardona, including brief nudismo and some sex scenes.
The motion picture was poorly directed by Angel Ayllón. He is a Colombian writer/producer/director confined to his country who has apparently made some commercial and attractive films, such as ¨Milagro de Fe¨, ¨La sexóloga¨, ¨Y nos fuimos pal mundial¨, ¨Embarazada por obra y gracia¨, ¨Sobre ruedas¨ , although he has also written, produced or directed some coproductions with Spain, usually together with his brother Fernando Aylló, as ¨Ni de coña¨, among others. La Hierba del Diablo (The Devil's Weed) is a failed terror film that tries to carry out the most common resources of the genre without using them well. Rating: 4/10. Below average. Only for hardcore fans of horror movies and completists of this genre.
