Thailand’s skill with ghostly drama series gets another showing in “The Legend of Nang Nak,” which releases widely across Asia next week.
Directed by Taweewat Wantha and scripted by Sorarat Jirabovornwisut, the pair behind “Death Whisperer 1 and 2,” the 30-part series portrays a ghostly love story that defies the barriers between life and death.
The series hails from production firm Minds@Work and Thai terrestrial broadcast group Bec World. International sales are handled by I.E. Entertainment.
It will begin airing from Oct. 14 in Thailand on Channel 3 and on Netflix in Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar. Viewers in Indonesia able to stream on the Vidio and Viu platforms.

Imax is to extend its partnerships in China and Thailand, expanding its growing presence in Asia with several new screens.
In China, the large-screen exhibitor has teamed with Bona Film Group to launch three new Imax with Laser systems, which are set to begin operation in 2026. Cinema chains in mainland China and in Thailand have revealed plans to expand their park of Imax premium large format screens.
In China, Bona Film Group said that it had expanded its existing agreement with the Canadian supplier, to add three Imax laser systems. The three will become operational by 2026 and bring Bona’s Imax locations to 36.
Thailand’s leading exhibition chain Major Cineplex will also add three Imax with laser systems. One, in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district, will open this year, with the remaining two in other parts of Bangkok to open in 2026 and 2027.
Both announcements were made on the margins of the annual CinemaCon 2024 exhibition conference in Las Vegas.

Exclusive: Vietnamese distributor and producer Mockingbird Pictures is making its debut as an international sales agent at Filmart with a slate of local horror, comedies and action films, headed by record-breaking horror hit Crimson Snout (Quy Cau).
Produced by 89s Group, the film is currently the highest-grossing horror film ever in Vietnam with a take of around $4.5M since its January release.

The Osaka Asian Film Festival has added eight more titles to its line-up, including the award-winning Georgian drama “Blackbird Blackbird Blackberry,” which will play in competition.
Elene Naveriani’s “Blackbird,” about a middle-aged woman’s relationship decision, has had wide festival play in Europe and earned multiple prizes for lead actor Eka Chavleishvili.
