In the current television landscape, "Yellowstone" is king. Above "House of the Dragon" and other big, flashier shows, it is Taylor Sheridan's Western series that stands as the most popular show on cable right now. Even so, all good things must come to an end. The second half of the show's fifth season is due to air later this year and it very well may be the show's swan song. That's largely because Kevin Costner, who has led the way as John Dutton since the beginning, has departed the show. How does the rest of the cast feel about that? Luke Grimes at least seems to be pretty even-tempered regarding Costner's exit.
In an interview earlier this year with The Hollywood Reporter, Grimes was asked about Costner's messy departure from "Yellowstone." Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on the series,...

Are there even more Kevin Costner money problems on the horizon?
In the wake of Kevin Costner’s contentious divorce from Christine Baumgartner, his career hasn’t slowed.
However, his most recent project has been a disappointment. Both a commercial and a critical failure, Horizon: An American Saga could be another life-altering setback.
Financing a passion project is a goal for many actors. But in the wake of his divorce, this could upend his life and force him to sell off property just to stay afloat.

Ridley Scott hinting at a third part to his Gladiator film has got fans worried. The filmmaker returns with a sequel to his Oscar-winning film on November 22. He recently revealed that he has ideas for a potential third film. Fans fear that Scott’s film may suffer a fate similar to that of Kevin Costner’s Horizon Saga.

Earlier, Costner announced four parts to his Western directorial venture Horizon. Costner had filmed and released the first part in June. Before the first film hit theaters, he announced the filming of a second and third part of the series. However, things went horribly wrong for the actor/director when Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 became a box office disaster.

Six hours into Kevin Costner’s unfussy and digestible Horizon: An American Saga, it does feel like some crucial oversights have been made. Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2, which Costner shot back-to-back with Chapter 1 for a combined budget of $100 million, around $38M of came from Costner’s coffers, exists in...

The latest entry in Kevin Costner’s four-part Western, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and select outlets have weighed in on whether the film is a project of progress or a bumpy ride along a dusty trail. Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 launched to mixed reactions, with many from its Cannes debut saying the over-long film lacked punch despite being a love letter to the Western genre Costner loves so much. After Chapter 1 failed to find its audience in theaters, New Line/WB rushed the film to digital platforms, hoping to recover dollars from an unexpected upset. To Costner’s credit, he’s determined to see his Horizon project through, though the latest reactions to Chapter 2 aren’t likely to convince others to saddle up for the long haul.

Kevin Costner’s second installment of his Western franchise “Horizon: An American Saga” earned a three-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival on Saturday, before the director and star was crowded by fans.
The applause for Costner’s “Horizon 2” had barely passed the three-minute mark when he became encircled by enthusiastic fans — holding up their phones to get selfies or take videos — and was therefore escorted out by security. The follow-up to June’s first edition of “Horizon,” “Chapter Two” debuted at the festival’s Sala Giardino — a much smaller theater than typical premiere-host Sala Grande, which was otherwise occupied on Saturday night with Venice’s awards ceremony. “Chapter One” of “Horizon” premiered at Cannes Film Festival back in May to a seven-minute ovation.
However, before he left, Costner hugged his “Bull Durham” co-star Susan Sarandon, who kissed his cheek and whispered congratulations in his ear. The two...

As vast and flat as its title, “Horizon: An American Saga” can carry many descriptions. Call it hokey or homespun, old-school or out-of-touch, all would apply. But don’t you dare say wistful, because star and director and producer and co-screenwriter Kevin Costner has not leveraged a good part of his fortune for mourning.
Costner has come to celebrate those old myths, not bury them – and that lends “Chapter 2” an unintentionally elegiac quality. Tumbling down the Lido once this year’s Venice Film Festival has become a ghost-town, and with an already canceled theatrical release, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” stands more as a monument to unmet ambitions, to the grand swings-and-misses more often than not left out of the Great American Narrative.
Of course, by furthering the very televisual storytelling rhythms that cluttered and confounded in “Chapter 1,” this latest volume is not likely to win over unfamiliar devotees nor...

After debuting his Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 in Cannes last May, Kevin Costner is on the Lido today for the world premiere of the second installment in the Manifest Destiny epic. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2, directed by and starring Costner alongside Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Giovanni Ribisi, Isabelle Fuhrman, Luke Wilson and more, will screen out of competition at the Venice Film Festival this afternoon. Prior to that, Costner met with the press.
Costner wrote the, so far, two-part epic, with co-writer Jon Baird and also produces under his Territory Pictures banner. A third and fourth film are scripted and ready to shoot. The Oscar winner has a lot of skin in the game on this passion project. He previously told Deadline that he’s projected to pay $98 million himself for the first three films, and that financing the fourth will take it to over $100 million.

There’s an enormous amount to describe, but very little to actually say about Kevin Costner’s bedraggled “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2,” the second of a planned four installments in his sprawling, multistranded Western, that plays, after the muted reception of “Chapter 1” in Cannes, out of competition on the final day of Venice. Doubling down on the first chapter’s intermittent triumphs but also on its grievous structural issues, it is an exercise in contradictions: incident-packed yet oddly sedate; replete with characters new and returning, yet largely lacking in compelling characterization; and, running to over three hours, simply too long a film to be so jarringly abrupt.
It’s hardly a surprise that it picks up where the last left off, given the last left off with, essentially, a preview-reel of part two. Viewers bewildered by that montage’s final image — a lingering close-up of a mustachioed Giovanni Ribisi,...

Kevin Costner spoke on the scrapped theatrical release of his second “Horizon” film on Saturday during its Venice Film Festival press conference, saying that “it probably was a reaction” to the underperformance of the first movie at the box office.
“It didn’t have overwhelming success,” Costner said of the first film. “I’ve had a lot of movies that way, that have stood the test of time.”
He added that it was a “studio decision” to release “Chapter Two” six weeks after “Chapter One,” and “it became a studio decision to not.” However, Costner asserted that it all worked out for the best because he got to screen “Horizon 2” at Venice.
“For me, it fell back into my plan, which was I always wanted to come out with movies about five-six months apart. And that was going to allow me to come to Venice,” he said. “I would have never come to Venice,...

“Alien: Romulus” ripped into the domestic box office with $41.5 million, marking the second-highest start in the long-running “Alien” franchise. Those ticket sales were enough for the newest chapter in Disney and 20th Century’s sci-fi horror saga to end the three-week reign of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which just overtook “Joker” as the highest-grossing R-rated movie in history with $1.14 billion.
These achievements are capping off Disney’s stellar summer streak, which ignited with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (May’s highest grossing movie with $397 million) and continued through “Inside Out 2” (June’s highest grossing movie with $1.597 billion) and “Deadpool & Wolverine” (July’s highest grossing movie with $1.14 billion). The studio earlier this month became the first of 2024 to surpass $3 billion in worldwide ticket sales and should continue to pad that total with “Moana 2” (Nov. 27) and “Mufasa: The Lion King” (Dec. 20) on the calendar through the year’s end.

Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon” is finally coming to streaming. The filmmaker’s passion project “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” will stream on Max starting on Friday, Aug. 23.
The film, which is the opening salvo of a planned four-film franchise, explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many. The story spans the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865.
Costner co-wrote, directed, stars in and partially financed the film, which opened in theaters in June. “Horizon 2” is already completed and was originally set to be released in August, but after the lackluster performance of the first film at the box office, the decision was made to push the release of “Horizon 2” so more people could catch up with the first film. Kevin Costner‘s period Western Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 has a streaming date.
The first chapter in the former Yellowstone star’s film saga will release on Max on Aug. 23.
Following the film disappointing at the box office — Chapter 1, which runs three hours and one minute, opened to just $11 million over the June 28-30 weekend — Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema decided to pause on releasing Horizon: Chapter 2. The second installment was pulled from a planned Aug. 16 theater release in order to give audiences the opportunity to discover the first installment on PVOD and Max.
Chapter 1 debuted in the home on Premium VOD July 16 while it remained in theaters, but at that time, a Max date had not been announced. The switch-up in what was an ambitious release plan was in hopes of allowing more time to grow the audience, as the first film sports a $100 million price tag.

“Alien: Romulus” is expected to rip into the box office with $28 million to $38 million in its first weekend of release. Rivals and independent tracking services are bullish on Disney and 20th Century’s sci-fi sequel, though, believing that inaugural ticket sales could wind up closer to $40 million or $50 million.

The next bit of Kevin Costner’s western epic saga, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is heading to Venice for its premiere.
The US cinema release date of Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 may have been thrown into doubt following the first film’s sluggish box office performance, but it’ll still get a glitzy debut in Venice later this year.
Actor, writer, director and producer Kevin Costner’s epic western will make its debut at the city of canals’ film festival on the 7th September, with the first chapter set to screen earlier on the same day. Chapter 1 weighed in at a shade over three hours long, while the sequel isn’t much shorter at around two hours 45 minutes. If you’re heading to the Venice International Film Festival this autumn and plan on catching both movies, we’d recommend taking a pillow with you, or perhaps a tub of saddle sore ointment.

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 will premiere at the 81st Venice Film Festival.
The second installment of the Civil War saga starring Costner alongside Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone and Danny Huston, will screen out-of-competition on Saturday, September 7.
In an unprecedented move, Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1, which world premiered in rival festival Cannes in May, will be screened earlier in the day.
Venice’s decision to celebrate Chapter 2 comes just weeks after plans to launch the second installment theatrically August 16 in the U.S. were delayed after a sluggish box office performance for Chapter 1 following its July 4 release.
“My dream was always to show Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 at the Venice Film Festival,” said Costner.

Kevin Costner, the Oscar-winning director and Emmy Award-winning actor, bet the ranch on his epic four-part Western “Horizon: An American Saga.” But when “Chapter 1” was released in theaters on June 28 moviegoers mostly said “neigh.” The three-hour film with middling reviews has only grossed $25 million, pretty much an unmitigated disappointment – so much so that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Discovery pulled back the reins on “Chapter 2.” Originally set to debut on August 16, the second film has now been indefinitely delayed.
The spin, as per The Hollywood Reporter, is to maintain a theatrical release for the second part, but just to hit pause and wait for an audience to grow. That may mean hoping the film picks up some steam on PVOD next week and eventually on Max. Of course, the whole point of this movie was Costner’s dream of getting adults off their duff and back to movie theaters.

After giddying up to bring Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 to cinemas just last month, director-star Kevin Costner is going to have to hold his horses before delivering the second instalment in his four-part Western epic. Per THR's reporting, Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 has been dropped from its originally planned 16 August theatrical release date, and will instead hit cinemas at an as-yet-unconfirmed later point in time.
The official reason cited for Costner's Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema temporarily pulling the pin on the sequel's release is that they want to give the first film a chance to grow its audience. Having to date made $25 million on a $100 million budget ($58 million of which came from Costner's own coffers), it's seems that the filmmaker's wildly ambitious, passion-fuelled big genre swing has yet to really connect with cinemagoers. However, with the film set to hit PVOD platforms on 16 July, Costner and...

Kevin Costner returned to the director's chair for the first time in decades for his ambitious Western "Horizon: An American Saga," which is not just one film, but a planned four-film epic that already has two installments ready to go with a third underway. Unfortunately, in the early going, things have not panned out, as "Horizon Chapter 1" recently bombed at the box office. Now, we have word that "Horizon Chapter 2" has been removed from Warner Bros.' release calendar, maybe for good.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Costner's Territory Pictures and New Line Cinema have jointly agreed to pull "Horizon: An American Saga -- Chapter 2" from its previously planned August 16 release date. That date always felt ambitious, given that it was less than two months from the release of "Chapter 1." Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2 will no longer be released in theaters on August 16. After a dismal opening for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 earlier this month, the sequel’s fate remains in limbo. This unfortunate news delivers a harsh blow to the adult-focused film market, particularly for audience demos in the 50+ range. Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 continues to screen in theaters, though a July 16 digital release date for the film is already on the horizon.
There are no plans to port Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 2 to Max, and theatrical plans for the film’s release remain uncertain. Whispers around the Hollywood water cooler say Chapter 2 could get a day-and-date release in theaters and on digital, but nothing is concrete. Unsubstantiated reports say the movie is getting pulled outright, but that claim has no validity. It sounds like madness, but theaters could have been a...

Kevin Costner’s “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2” has been pulled from its planned theatrical release on August 16 after the first chapter floundered at the box office earlier this summer.
An individual with knowledge of the decision told IndieWire distributor New Line Pictures and Costner’s own Territory Pictures mutually agreed to delay the film’s release in order to give the first part more time to build an audience, including for “Horizon – Chapter 1” to be released on PVOD beginning July 16. A date for the first film to be released on Max has not been set either.
As of now, “Horizon – Chapter 2” remains slated for a theatrical release, but no release date has been set.

The second chapter of Kevin Costner’s Western, Horizon: An American Saga, has seen its theatrical release pulled following the dismal box office performance of Chapter 1.
Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 was originally set to open in theaters on August 16th — a little over a month after Chapter 1’s premiere. However, with Chapter 1 having barely made over $20 million domestically to date, Costner’s Territory Pictures and his distribution partner New Line Cinema have decided to pull the theatrical release of Chapter 2.
In doing so, they hope “to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks,” including through a streaming release on Max.
A new theatrical release date for Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 has not been set, and it’s possible it may never actually find its way into theaters. It’s also worth noting that Costner recently began production on a third chapter of Horizon,...

Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 is no longer coming out on Aug. 16. The news comes following the misfire of Chapter 1 over the July 4th box office frame.
Still given the movie’s 50+ leaning audience and how they’re slow to come to cinemas, the filmmakers wanted to give that audience time to find the first movie whether that be in home or in theaters. Chapter 1 will hit digital on July 16. It will continue to run in theaters.
Right now, there are no plans to send the sequel directly to Max. There could be a theatrical day-and-date plan for Chapter 2, but that’s still being assessed. While it’s been reported that the movie was pulled –that’s a strong word which indicates Chapter 2 has no theatrical prospects. Again, no decision have been made. Costner’s core Yellowstone audience is at home, and the notion is for them...

Kevin Costner’s period Western Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 won’t be riding into theaters on Aug. 16 after all.
The film is being pulled from the release calendar for now after Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 bit the dust in its theatrical debut late last month. A new date has yet to be announced for the sequel, but a theatrical release is still the intention.
After numerous discussions, Costner’s Territory Pictures and distribution partner New Line Cinema made the decision to switch up their ambitious release plan in hopes of allowing more time to grow the audience for the first film, which sports a $100 million price tag.
As part of that attempt, Chapter 1 will debut in the home on Premium VOD July 16 in addition to still being available to watch in theaters (the film could do notable business on PVOD).

“A Quiet Place: Day One” is making noise at the box office, collecting a roaring $53 million in its domestic opening weekend. The nearly silent thriller added $45.5 million internationally for a global tally of $98.5 million.
Though it landed in second place behind Disney-Pixar’s billion-dollar blockbuster “Inside Out 2,” the ticket sales for “Day One” are especially impressive because spinoff stories usually don’t bring in as much business as direct sequels. Yet “A Quiet Place: Day One” — a prequel in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic horror series — landed the biggest debut in the franchise, exceeding the original 2018 “A Quiet Place,” ($50 million to start) and the 2021 sequel, “A Quiet Place Part II” (a $48 million debut during Covid).
“We listened to the fans about what they’d be looking for,” says Paramount’s president of domestic distribution Chris Aronson. “This origin story, giving them a new city as the setting and fresh characters, all conspired to broaden the audience.

Will audiences care about the world of “A Quiet Place” without John Krasinski or Emily Blunt?
That’ll be the presiding question as “A Quiet Place: Day One,” a prequel story in Paramount’s post-apocalyptic horror series, hits theaters on Friday. The film, which takes place a while before the Abbotts (the family at the center of the prior two movies) were forced into hiding from terrifying, sound-hunting creatures, is expected to collect a solid $40 million to $50 million from 3,700 theaters in its opening weekend. The prequel cost $67 million to produce.
Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn star in “A Quiet Place: Day One” — set during the early stages of a New York City alien invasion — while “Pig” filmmaker Michael Sarnoski took over directing duties from Krasinski. Though spinoffs usually don’t do as much business as direct sequels, “A Quiet Place: Day One” is impressively eyeing a similar debut to its franchise predecessors.

Kevin Costner is an actor-producer-director extraordinary, whose talent has only gotten better with age. Kevin Costner is set to take on four different responsibilities this summer, as a director, co-writer, producer, and a leading star in his two-part theatrical franchise, Horizon: An American Saga. Sorting through America’s history is a Herculean task. Humans built the nation with blood, sweat, and tears, watering the soil with memory, pain, and perseverance. Today, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga trailer explores the settlement of America’s Western frontier from the Indigenous groups who blessed the land to those who occupied it by force. Horizon will be Kevin Costner‘s first time directing a movie since Open Range in 2003. He also busted out his directing chops for The Postman and Dances with Wolves, the latter of which earned him an Academy Award for Best Director.
Kevin Costner’s Horizon will “span 15 years in the settlement of America’s Western frontier, and focus on both the settlers as well as the Indigenous groups that first occupied the land.”
Here’s the official synopsis for Horizon: An American Saga courtesy of Warner Bros.:
