The chairman of the District 78 housing committee moves away and Ilonka proposed to the vacant post, which she accepts. She is enthusiastic about the work, her first project is the construction of sidewalks on the streets of the district. Since this involves a lot of meetings, her family feels straight she cares less about them, and this doesn't make her husband happy at all. He works out a plan, sends letters accusing his wife to the management in the name of the residents. It seems that Ilonka is losing the mandate.

Peace is restored in the family, Ilonka remains in her post. During her usual visits at the neighborhood, she meets a very attractive young woman, who is happily married for three years, but she is not blessed with children. Ilonka sees how much this hurts her, so she decides to help her get started. She accompanies her for examinations and everything seems to be fine at the young woman's side. When her husband learns this, he becomes crazy angry.

Good news comes, the municipality has approved the repainting of the district school, the only problem is the timing, right now, in the middle of the semester. The school can't be closed for three weeks, as the parents can't deal with their kids as long. As they don't want to miss their opportunity, Ilonka makes a plan. Every parents should take home some school equipment or stuff to make room for teaching in the semi-closed institution. This action has a surprisingly positive effect on some families.

On a late-night announcement sticking trip Ilonka finds a briefcase on top of a trash can. She, as a district commissioner, wants to find out who is it belong to. Based on the ID found in the suitcase, she takes it to the address together with her husband. The initial joy of the young couple turns into a huge quarrel, and after the couple storms away, they find themselves locked in a stranger's apartment. Their only way out is through the balcony, but there they just get into another complication.

An old lady from the district breaks her leg and is hospitalized. She entrusts Ilonka to manage her stuffs while she is away. Ilonka just realizes now how bad the old lady's living conditions are, and she is getting into action. At the municipality she fights for the renovation of the lady's house, in which the residents of the district enthusiastically participate. Everything gets ready on time, but the old lady has other plans for the restored building.

There is a ceremonial overpass inauguration in the district, which will serve the motorway under construction. The initial enthusiasm of the residents quickly turns into public outrage when they learn that the management want to cut down their old trees to improve the panorama, and they want to plant new ornamental trees in their place. The residents unite as one man to devastate destruction.
