For many years now, exorcisms have been a staple of horror films. From “The Exorcist” to “The Conjuring,” these films provide a view of the world beyond our own by depicting demonic possession and spiritual chaos. Though this year has already seen the successful sequel “The Conjuring 2,” there is another exorcism film due out next week: “The Possession Experiment,” about a curious student thrust into a dark world.

It follows theology student Brandon (Chris Minor), who has always been drawn to the supernatural. When he decides to explore the dark world of exorcisms for his final project, he and three classmates investigate an exorcism gone wrong disguised as a multiple homicide.
