This is another well done documentary by the French filmmaker Yamina Benguigui. I have also enjoyed her movie Aicha, and I was pleased to see the characters and stories have a real base which is presented here. But while Aicha is a light hearted comedy with a social twist, 9/3, mémoire d'un territoire is about the history of what was later to become departement 93. And even more so the stories of some of the people involved in the life and politics there and thus who made that history.
I particularly like the way Yamina Benguigui puts the accents differently. This is not about some faceless evil spirit hoodlums who make the police work for their monthly wages, but about the people pushed into ghettos and left without hope. And it integrates very well with the other works of ms. Benguigui.
