Quietly, Sridevi has started shooting for her new film entitled Mom, in Delhi. The film, directed by debutant Ravi Udywar, features Sridevi as a stepmom in conflict with her 18-year old daughter. The daughter will be played by a newcomer. In the meanwhile, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and surprisingly, Akshaye Khanna have joined the cast of Mom. Akshaye has not appeared in any film since the political satire Gali Gali Chor Hai bombed in 2012. Says a source, "Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor, who produces Mom, personally requested Akshaye to make a comeback. He has a terrific role in Mom." Neither Nawazuddin nor Akshaye Khanna have ever shared screen space with the one and only Sridevi. The shooting of the film commenced quietly in Delhi on 6th March.

Akshaye Khanna who was last seen in the 2012 film Gali Gali Chor Hai disappeared from the film circuit since. However we now hear that the actor is set to make a comeback with the Rohit Dhawan directed film Dishoom. In fact we hear that Akshaye will be seen playing the main antagonist in the film. Further it is also learnt that Akshaye Khanna's role will be that of a flamboyant smart-talking villain who rattles off one wisecrack after another. Though Akshaye has previously played villainous roles, in Dishoom he will be garbed in flashy, slightly overthe-top wardrobe as an Afghan man. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, Dishoom is said to have some high octane action sequences. Featuring Varun Dhawan and Jacqueline Fernandez, the film is expected to release in April 2016.

That 2012 began with an overwrought hyper-melodramatic brutal and tumultuous remake of Agneepath and ended with Yash Chopra’s muted mellow all-heart-no-malice ode to romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan seems indicative of the direction that Bollywood seems headed for. The journey, as we can see, is unpredictable and largely exciting. Looking back, some films of 2012 that fetched hype-star ratings seem bloated and over-eager to please either critics or the masses, but never both. Luckily the films that were truly meritorious did get a place under the swoon.
Each year Bollywood surprises us, and not always in a good way. 2012 seems like a watershed year even by the continuously evolving standards of filmmaking set by envelope-pushing directors who have filtered into filmdom during the past years. 2012 was the year when Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sujoy Ghosh and Shoojit Sircar came into their own with films that took mainstream cinema to new heights. Will You Marry Me? releases this Friday and it's leading lady Mugdha Godse is taking solace from the fact that she would be at least hogging all the attention in this multi-starrer. From playing an extended cameo in Gali Gali Chor Hai which didn't quite end up fetching many brownie points for her, she is now being seen as a central protagonist in the film."Yes, but you know I never thought of it this way when I signed Will You Marry Me?," says Mugdha, "Of course now when you s...

Outspoken writer/producer and director Mahesh Bhatt has always been brave and bold. With an enviable record of successful films and a clear formula for delivering hits, Bhatt has often been accused of promoting sex in his movies. However his rescent defence is clear and precise: “(Sex) is what sells,” the director declares, “Why blame me when it is what people want to see (and) they buy tickets to watch my films.”
Earlier Bhatt accused the industry and audiences over hypocrisy when it came to his films (Jism, Murder), in comparison to Yash Raj films (Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Salaam Namaste), which were equal in their sex related content. Bhatt has however equally been celebrated for his presentation of serious films and topics, with classics such as Arth (1982), Saaransh (1984), Naam (1986) and Zakhm (1998), however with the recent release and dismal box office performance of Akshaye Khanna’s corruption-themed Gali Gali Chor Hai,...

Gali Gali Chor Hai has released and while there have been positive reviews all around for Akshaye Khanna in particular; the leading ladies haven't seen similar favour coming their way. The love triangle of sorts that has been explored with the character of Shreya suspecting Akshaye of being in a relationship with Mugdha hasn't really been lapped up since it diverts viewer's attention. However quiz Mugdha about this and one hears that she doesn't carry any regret whatsoever since t...

The opening of the topical Gali Gali Chor Hai, starring Akshaye Khanna and Shriya Saran, was never expected to be bumper (unlike last Thursday's Agneepath). However, the 15-25 percent start at most centers was a disappointment. Additionally the film could not improve its collection much during the latter shows, despite a section of the audience liking it. Was it the India-Australia Twenty20 cricket match, which plays havoc with smaller releases? Only time can tell. All the sam...

While credit must be given to writer-director Rumy Jaffery for focusing on the issue of corruption noble intentions don’t necessarily make a notable work of art. Certainly Gali Gali Chor Hai(Ggch) must have sounded amusing and topical on paper. It is a savagely stinging satire on the harassment of the average law-abiding middleclass man, played with arresting earnestness by Akshaye Khanna, in the hands of various touts, middlemen, law enforcers, goons and politicians all of whom infest the tranquil city of Bhopal with the destructive determination of termites eating into a ‘system’ that has long ceased to be if any consequence , moral or ethical.
While the script has some sparkling vignettes and scenes taken from the portrait of a common man trapped in the wheels of a fluctuating fortune, the treatment of the theme of corruption is staid,...

Gali Gali Chor Hai may be a film about the common man while exploring the theme of corruption and hence one may wonder that it won't quite necessitate a place for Veena Malik's item song 'Channo' or any other elements that creates space to highlight glamour in the film. New Delhi, Jan 24: After spending over three decades in the film industry and working in more than 60 films, actor Annu Kapoor feels he could have been wiser, and done better for himself.
Asked if there's anything he would like to ask himself at this stage of life, he said: "Why have I been such an idiot?"
"I have asked this question to myself because understanding and time is a part of very few lucky lives. When one has time, then the understanding is not there, and when you have the understanding then you don't have the time," he added.
Annu, who will soon be seen in Rumi Jaffery's "Gali Gali Chor Hai", admits he lives.
