Emma Corrin, hot from playing villainous Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine, will join Cate Blanchett in the eagerly awaited new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at London’s Barbican Theatre in 2025.
Another addition to an already sizzling company is Kodi Smit-McPhee, who shot to fame in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog. He also appears with an incandescent Angelina Jolie in Netflix’s awards-season hopeful Maria.
It’s a family reunion, of sorts, for Blanchett and McPhee. They play mother and son in Alfonso Cuarón’s brilliant seven-part Apple TV+ drama Disclaimer, which premieres on the streamer October 11. The two Australian-born actors also play related characters in The Seagull: Blanchett takes on the part of theatrical grand dame Irina Arkadina and McPhee plays her son Konstantin.

Despite a cast that includes “The Office” co-creator Stephan Merchant, potential new Bond Claes Bang, and national treasure Christopher Walken, crime comedy “The Outlaws” has largely flown under the radar since debuting on Amazon in 2022. But now “Baby Reindeer” has alerted the rest of the world to the talents of Jessica Gunning, its third season, premiering May 31, should both attract a deservedly bigger audience and continue its regular scene-stealer’s meteoric rise.
The continuation of the saga involving seven petty criminals who become embroiled in a dangerous drug money-laundering scheme while undergoing community service was filmed prior to Martha Scott, and the memeable real-life Scotswoman she was apparently based upon, dominating the cultural discourse. Yet in a timely development, Gunning’s supervisor Diane Pemberley is given much more prominence, and indeed more layers, this time around.

The scripted and unscripted series based on “The Battersea Poltergeist” from Blumhouse Television and Maniac Productions have been set up at Peacock for development, Variety has learned exclusively.
Both projects are based on the BBC Radio 4 docu-drama podcast “The Battersea Poltergeist.” It was first announced as being in the works in May 2021, though no network or streaming service was attached at that time.
The shows are meant to be the first installment of a new anthology series called “Blumhouse’s Ghost Story.” “The Battersea Poltergeist” tells the story of strange events that occurred in 1956 in Battersea, South London, when 15-year old Shirley Hitchings first began being terrorized by a powerful force. The events were investigated over a 12-year period, becoming the longest documented poltergeist haunting in history. The unscripted companion series will delve deeper into the story through the use of archival footage and new interviews.

Filming has begun in North Wales locations on Film4 and British Film Institute-backed feature film “Brian & Charles,” cowritten by and starring David Earl (“After Life”).
The project began life as an acclaimed 2017 short of the same name directed by Jim Archer (“The Young Offenders”). Archer makes his feature directorial debut with “Brian & Charles.” The film is written by Earl and Chris Hayward (“Trollied”). It is based on Earl’s comedic alter-ego Brian Gittins, and his unlikely friendship with Charles, a robot.
After a particularly harsh winter, Brian (Earl) goes into a deep depression. Completely alone and with no one to talk to, he does what any sane person would do when faced with such a melancholic situation: he builds a robot, Charles (Hayward), for company. While things start off well, tensions begin to rise, particularly as Charles keeps eating Brian’s cabbages.

Netflix has at long last confirmed that Helena Bonham Carter will join “The Crown” Season 3, with the streaming giant also announcing that Jason Watkins is also joining the critically acclaimed series.
As Variety reported back in January, Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret, taking over the role played for the first two seasons by Vanessa Kirby.

She will next be seen in the film “Ocean’s 8.” Bonham Carter is known for her role as Bellatrix Lestrange in the “Harry Potter” franchise, as well as several collaborations with Tim Burton. She is repped by Wme and Conway van Gelder Grant.

Cashflow fund to compensate for staggered SVoD deals; Roughcut Television among clients.
British bank Barclays has launched a £100m fund aimed at UK TV production companies.
The fund has been established to directly target producers making content for SVoD platforms such as Netflix and Amazon, whose repayments can be staggered.
According to Barclays, the fund, Barclays SVoD Financing, will help companies manage cashflow and sustain employment, and the bank has developed a bespoke loan structuring method for producers.
One of the first companies to use the fund is Roughcut Television, producers of BBC Three series Cuckoo and People Just Do Nothing as well as Sky comedy Trollied.

Here's one of those 'This'll make you feel old' factoids - it's two years since the last ever episode of Skins aired.
E4's groundbreaking hormone-fest wrapped up on August 5, 2013 - with an older Cook (Jack O'Connell) heading off into an uncertain future at the close of 'Rise (Part Two)'.
Cook was but one of 27 major characters featured on Skins across three 'Generations' - in a total of 61 episodes, split into seven series. But where are the teen tearaways of Roundview College now?
Generation One
1. Nicholas Hoult
Hoult played Tony Stonem - the pre-eminent bad boy of Skins - across its first two series. Later badly hurt in a traffic accident and forced to rely on others, Tony had mellowed by his final episodes.
Now aged 25, Hoult has become a bona-fide Hollywood star with roles in this year's Mad Max: Fury Road and the much-anticipated book adaptations Dark Places and Kill Your Friends.

Jason Watkins has applauded ITV for having the courage to tackle The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies.
The actor played Jefferies in the true-life drama, about a retired schoolteacher vilified by the press after being falsely accused of murder.
Watkins told Digital Spy that ITV deserved credit for airing a piece of drama that was "not necessarily mainstream" in a primetime slot.

The star was named best Leading Actor at last night's BAFTAs, trumping Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, Marvellous star Toby Jones and The Missing's James Nesbitt.

Veteran British actor David Ryall died Christmas Day at the age of 79. While he was probably best known for his role as the wizard Elphias Doge, a friend of Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, his career spanned five decades, from the stage to the big screen. Sherlock creator Mark Gatiss tweeted out the news that Ryall had passed away. Most recently, Ryall appeared in ensemble crews on British television series like The Village, Trollied, and Outnumbered. He played one of the more memorable villains on the long-running Inspector Morse. His daughter, Charlie Ryall, has asked that people remember him for more than just his role in Harry Potter. She tweeted: Ryall began his career on the stage, including work at the National Theater, during which time he was involved in several production such as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Guys and Dolls, Animal Farm, and...

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. was often criticized for not utilizing its full potential in its first season, but the writers and show-runners are looking to remedy that in year two. Part of making the show more exciting involves bringing in characters from the comics, which is something fans were hoping for since the beginning.
It looks like things are going to change a bit in season two, as it was announced today during the Marvel TV panel at San Diego Comic-Con that several new characters would be joining the show. Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica alum Lucy Lawless will play Isabelle Hartley, a longtime S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran with a penchant for knives, while Trollied star Nick Blood will play a mercenary named Lance Hunter, who in the comics is the director of S.T.R.I.K.E., the UK version of S.H.

Produced as a feature – 4 TV half-hours – and as a 13 episode web series, Sos: Save Our Skins is the tale of two hapless British geeks who wake up in New York City to discover that the entire human race has vanished. But as they explore the seemingly empty world before them, Ben (Nat Saunders) and Stephen (Chris Hayward) soon realize they’re not alone after all. This new comedy sci-fi adventure launched on FEARnet in the U.S. in April on its new “Twisted Comedy” block and on Blue Ant Media’s Bite TV in Canada. This U.K.-Canada coproduction was produced by Steve Coogan and Henry Normal’s Baby Cow Productions in the U.K. and by Duopoly in Canada.
“We discovered Sos: Save Our Skins in a pitch session at the Just For Laughs Conference and were determined to find a way to finance it,” said Catherine Tait , Executive Producer. “Co-productions are challenging but in the case of Sos, the talent and final results were entirely worth the effort!”
Sos: Save Our Skins was created, written by and stars two of Britain’s in-demand comedy writing teams, Nat Saunders and Chris Hayward. Together they have contributed to hit U.K. shows such as Big Train (BBC), Smack the Pony (Channel 4), Trollied (Sky) and Fit (Cbbc), and created the popular web series Misey Bear(BBC). Sos also stars Hannah Spear (Versus Valerie, Sexy Nerd Girl) as Kill the cannibal and Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun of the Dead, Guardians of the Galaxy) as the voice of Andrew the Alien.
A sci-fi, comedy and horror homage, Sos: Save Our Skins sends Ben and Stephen on a desperate journey to find their loved ones, escape the jaws of death and work out why they’re two of the few remaining people on Earth. But the answer to the mystery is bigger, crazier and more apocalyptic than they could ever have imagined, and it puts the fate of the planet into their very stupid hands.
“Sos: Save Our Skins is part road movie, part sci-fi fantasy, part buddy movie, and even has a twisted love story at its heart, even if one of the lovers is a mass-murderer,” said Director and Producer, Kent Sobey.
The film version of Sos: Save Our Skins premiered at the 39th Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival in February, where Sorespot Movies observed, “[it] does not hold back with the comedy or the wildness of the plot”. The film also screened at the International Horror and Sci-fi Film Festival in Phoenix and the Sci-Fi London Film Festival (April 24 – May 4, 2014). It will screen at the St. Tropez International Film Festival (May 12 – 16, 2014).
The film was produced in association with the Independent Production Fund and with the participation of BBC Worldwide in the UK, FEARnet in the U.S. and Blue Ant Media in Canada.

The former Spice Girls star graces the aisles of fictional Warrington-based supermarket Valco on Christmas Eve (24.12.13) much to the shock of checkout girl Lisa - who is played by Beverly Rudd - and the flame-haired beauty is surprised to find out just how much of a fan of the '2 Become 1' hitmakers the store worker is. To mark the release of Trollied Season 3 on DVD 30th December, we’ve got 3 copies to give away.
Now into its third series, Trollied is set in Valco and finds the funny in one of our most familiar surroundings and focuses on the types of characters we all recognise: bored checkout staff, ineffectual managers and a range of customers, from the irate to the downright bizarre.
Released by FremantleMedia International as a 2 disc set, Trollied Series 3 is out on DVD December 30th. It stars BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous, Little Voice) as Julie and sees the arrival of Valco’s new Head Of Strategy, Richard France (Chris Geere), sent to modernise the store. Young, dynamic and barking mad, France’s ideas might just clash with Gavin’s (Jason Watkins) safe and by-the-book approach. Relationships will be pushed to the limits as Trollied’s favourite couples face...

British TV producer Ash Atalla has sold his first 2 American projects — both comedies — to CBS. They are being produced by CBS TV Studios where Atalla and his company Roughcut TV signed a first-look deal last year. In the UK, Atalla served as a producer on The Office and executive producer on The It Crowd, both of which were remade in the U.S. by NBC. The formats’ travel to the U.S. put Atalla in contact with U.S. producers, executives and agents and got him thinking about a move across the pond for himself, too. “I thought the world of comedy was getting smaller and smaller, and I found myself knowing more and more about American television,” he said. “I really enjoyed the Americans, liked the longer runs of their shows and through that one day it may be interesting to develop shows directly for the American networks.” Atalla...

Sky One’s ambitious 2011 continues to throw out original programming after the huge success that was Mad Dogs. Trollied is of a different mould altogether, but a statement of Sky One’s intent to push their own shows none the less. The problem is with original programming is that sometimes it just isn’t original enough.
After seeing the seemingly endless amount of adverts attempting to woo me and the rest of the nation over to Sky One on a Thursday night for their supermarket sitcom Trollied, last night I caved in. Partly due to a slow night on the box once Id watched the bore of a Spurs vs. Hearts match.
So Trollied…. A group of people work in a fictional supermarket. A few decent TV names such as Jane Horrocks as Deputy Manager Julie, Mark Addy as butcher Andy and the oddly camp Jason Watkins off of Psychoville playing the Store Manager Gavin.
