Emma Corrin, hot from playing villainous Cassandra Nova in Deadpool & Wolverine, will join Cate Blanchett in the eagerly awaited new adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull at London’s Barbican Theatre in 2025.

Another addition to an already sizzling company is Kodi Smit-McPhee, who shot to fame in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog. He also appears with an incandescent Angelina Jolie in Netflix’s awards-season hopeful Maria.

It’s a family reunion, of sorts, for Blanchett and McPhee. They play mother and son in Alfonso Cuarón’s brilliant seven-part Apple TV+ drama Disclaimer, which premieres on the streamer October 11. The two Australian-born actors also play related characters in The Seagull: Blanchett takes on the part of theatrical grand dame Irina Arkadina and McPhee plays her son Konstantin.

The scripted and unscripted series based on “The Battersea Poltergeist” from Blumhouse Television and Maniac Productions have been set up at Peacock for development, Variety has learned exclusively.

Both projects are based on the BBC Radio 4 docu-drama podcast “The Battersea Poltergeist.” It was first announced as being in the works in May 2021, though no network or streaming service was attached at that time.

The shows are meant to be the first installment of a new anthology series called “Blumhouse’s Ghost Story.” “The Battersea Poltergeist” tells the story of strange events that occurred in 1956 in Battersea, South London, when 15-year old Shirley Hitchings first began being terrorized by a powerful force. The events were investigated over a 12-year period, becoming the longest documented poltergeist haunting in history. The unscripted companion series will delve deeper into the story through the use of archival footage and new interviews.

Filming has begun in North Wales locations on Film4 and British Film Institute-backed feature film “Brian & Charles,” cowritten by and starring David Earl (“After Life”).

The project began life as an acclaimed 2017 short of the same name directed by Jim Archer (“The Young Offenders”). Archer makes his feature directorial debut with “Brian & Charles.” The film is written by Earl and Chris Hayward (“Trollied”). It is based on Earl’s comedic alter-ego Brian Gittins, and his unlikely friendship with Charles, a robot.

After a particularly harsh winter, Brian (Earl) goes into a deep depression. Completely alone and with no one to talk to, he does what any sane person would do when faced with such a melancholic situation: he builds a robot, Charles (Hayward), for company. While things start off well, tensions begin to rise, particularly as Charles keeps eating Brian’s cabbages.

Netflix has at long last confirmed that Helena Bonham Carter will join “The Crown” Season 3, with the streaming giant also announcing that Jason Watkins is also joining the critically acclaimed series.

As Variety reported back in January, Bonham Carter will play Princess Margaret, taking over the role played for the first two seasons by Vanessa Kirby.

“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about — doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret,” the actress said. “The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter [than Vanessa].”

Cashflow fund to compensate for staggered SVoD deals; Roughcut Television among clients.

British bank Barclays has launched a £100m fund aimed at UK TV production companies.

The fund has been established to directly target producers making content for SVoD platforms such as Netflix and Amazon, whose repayments can be staggered.

According to Barclays, the fund, Barclays SVoD Financing, will help companies manage cashflow and sustain employment, and the bank has developed a bespoke loan structuring method for producers.

One of the first companies to use the fund is Roughcut Television, producers of BBC Three series Cuckoo and People Just Do Nothing as well as Sky comedy Trollied.

As part of that deal, the bank has purchased Roughcut’s receivable as part of its SVoD deal with Netflix for Cuckoo, giving the company an upfront cash benefit as part of its multi-year streaming agreement.

TV veteran Don Johnson, "Harry Potter" franchise regular Rupert Grint, and British funnyman Nick Frost are all set to team on the six-part comedy series "Sick Note" for Sky Atlantic.

Created and written by Nat Saunders ("Trollied") and James Serafinowicz ("The Mark Steel Lectures"), Grint plays a compulsive liar stuck in a failing relationship and a dead-end job under the thumb of his irrepressible boss (Johnson). When diagnosed with cancer, everyone starts to treat him better.

Then he finds out he was misdiagnosed by an incompetent oncologist (Frost), but decides to keep the new information to himself. That lie spirals out of control.

Jo Sargent will executive produce. Filming is now underway and an early 2017 airdate is planned.

Humans‘ Ruth Bradley and Crossbones‘ Richard Coyle have signed on to take The Fall.

The pair will join the British thriller for its third and final season, our sister site Deadline reports.

Lucy Lawless' character and more roles from Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 2 have been revealed...

A few days into filming on Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season two - a show that even the most steadfast fan will agree, took a little while to find its feet - a bunch of new characters and actors have been announced.

First up is the role played by geek favourite, Lucy Lawless, that of Isabelle Hartley, described in Variety as "a tough, longtime S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran who is good with a knife."

Next comes UK actor Nick Blood (Trollied, Him & Her, The Bletchley Circle), who'll be playing "mercenary Lance Hunter", a character "best known for being the director of S.T.R.I.K.E., a British intelligence agency that worked with Captain America and Captain Britain to defeat Red Skull".

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. was often criticized for not utilizing its full potential in its first season, but the writers and show-runners are looking to remedy that in year two. Part of making the show more exciting involves bringing in characters from the comics, which is something fans were hoping for since the beginning.

It looks like things are going to change a bit in season two, as it was announced today during the Marvel TV panel at San Diego Comic-Con that several new characters would be joining the show. Xena: Warrior Princess and Battlestar Galactica alum Lucy Lawless will play Isabelle Hartley, a longtime S.H.I.E.L.D. veteran with a penchant for knives, while Trollied star Nick Blood will play a mercenary named Lance Hunter, who in the comics is the director of S.T.R.I.K.E., the UK version of S.H.

A sci-fi, comedy and horror homage, Sos: Save Our Skins sends Ben and Stephen on a desperate journey to find their loved ones, escape the jaws of death and work out why they’re two of the few remaining people on Earth. The film version of Sos: Save Our Skins premiered at the 39th Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival in February, where Sorespot Movies observed, “[it] does not hold back with the comedy or the wildness of the plot”. The film also screened at the International Horror and Sci-fi Film Festival in Phoenix and the Sci-Fi London Film Festival (April 24 – May 4, 2014). It will screen at the St. Tropez International Film Festival (May 12 – 16, 2014).

Sky have today announced that the highly anticipated, ten-episode fourth season of HBO’s drama epic Game of Thrones will debut on Sky Atlantic HD on Monday 7th April at 9pm, less than 24 hours after it returns in the Us.

Spice Girls star Geri Halliwell will make a cameo appearance in the Christmas edition of Sky1 sitcom Trollied.

Halliwell will arrive at the tills of the show's Valco supermarket and be served by superfan Lisa (Beverly Rudd).

Trollied is one of Sky1's most successful homegrown comedies and has aired three series.

The show stars Jane Horrocks, Jason Watkins, Rita May, Joel Fry, Carl Rice, Lorraine Cheshire and Faye McKeever.

Previous guest stars in the show have included Kelly Brook and cricket legend Ian Botham.

Kelly Brook switches modelling for till work and joins the staff of Valco supermarket in a cameo appearance on this week's episode of Trollied.

The glamour model showcases her comedy acting talents, poking fun at herself as a celebrity willing to turn up at the opening of a supermarket.

Trollied is one of Sky1's most successful homegrown comedies and stars Jane Horrocks, Chris Geere and Jason Watkins.

"It was a pleasure working with such a great cast and crew," said Brook.

"I've been a huge fan of the show and was thrilled to be working alongside Jane Horrocks."

British TV producer Ash Atalla has sold his first 2 American projects — both comedies — to CBS. They are being produced by CBS TV Studios where Atalla and his company Roughcut TV signed a first-look deal last year. In the UK, Atalla served as a producer on The Office and executive producer on The It Crowd, both of which were remade in the U.S. by NBC. Sky One’s ambitious 2011 continues to throw out original programming after the huge success that was Mad Dogs. Trollied is of a different mould altogether, but a statement of Sky One’s intent to push their own shows none the less. The problem is with original programming is that sometimes it just isn’t original enough.

After seeing the seemingly endless amount of adverts attempting to woo me and the rest of the nation over to Sky One on a Thursday night for their supermarket sitcom Trollied, last night I caved in. Partly due to a slow night on the box once Id watched the bore of a Spurs vs. Hearts match.
