Snowmageddon was a term used to describe a storm which shut down Washington, D.C. in early February 2010. At the time, President Obama, who had previously lived in Chicago, was shocked that the city was ill prepared for such an event but a snowstorm of that magnitude had not occurred there for nearly a century. DC's roads and metro system were incapacitated for nearly a week and the city had to resort to importing salt and plows for it's roads from nearby Baltimore and above ground metro stations had to wait until the snow melted below one foot before trains could resume operations.
