In the world of video game development and subsequent live-action adaptations, waiting has become an art form. Todd Howard’s The Elder Scrolls 6 has been teasing fans since 2018, making gamers wonder if the game is more mythical than Skyrim’s dragons.
But just when we thought we’d hit peak anticipation, Nintendo has swooped in with a Zelda movie timeline that might just make Elder Scrolls fans look like they’re experiencing instant gratification.

Slated for theaters in 2025, the film is written and directed by Scott Cooper and stars Jeremy Allen White as the visionary musician as he embarks on an emotional journey to record Nebraska.
“Beginning production on this film is an incredibly humbling and thrilling journey,” said Cooper. “Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Nebraska’ has profoundly shaped my artistic vision. Longtime friends and collaborators, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, reunite once more in this new biopic, charting the explosive birth of the iconic Saturday Night Live comedy program on the US TV network NBC.
Set in the frantic 90 minutes before the show’s inaugural episode aired, Saturday Night expertly captures the unpredictable, high-stakes nature of live television, weaving in biting humour, personal conflicts, and the birth of a cultural phenomenon.
Reitman and Kenan’s script balances tension and comedy, paying homage to the anarchic energy of SNL’s origins while offering insight into the fragile egos, narcotic excesses and volatile personalities that shaped its creation.
The film opens on October 11, 1975, with a visibly stressed Lorne Michaels, portrayed with nuance and gravitas by The Fabelmans star Gabriel Labelle, entering NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza in preparation for the first show. Outside he is greeted by a stressed out NBC page (Stanger Things...

Performance capture is one of the most exciting new tools available to filmmakers this century. But, if you’re an up and coming cinematic storyteller, how can you use it in your own filmmaking? IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit, taking place in Los Angeles on November 2 has you covered.
We are honored to welcome the team behind this year’s blockbuster smash, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” for a dynamic panel about the ins-and-outs of performance capture. At the heart of the conversation will be how they used these innovative tools to elicit profound emotion, to create deep connections between the film’s characters and the audience. Roger Ebert always said movies are an empathy machine: The performance capture artistry in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” showed how true that is.

It's been a busy year for M. Night Shyamalan. This summer, he dropped the wildly entertaining (and wildly silly) concert-set serial killer thriller "Trap," starring Josh Hartnett and Shyamalan's daughter, Saleka. The "Sixth Sense" director has several other projects in the works, but he's also been branching out as a producer, producing Ishana Shyamalan's "The Watchers" earlier this year and "Caddo Lake," co-directed by Logan George and Celine Held, this month. It's the latter film that's been climbing the streaming charts this week, with the latest viewership data from FlixPatrol listing it as the most-watched movie on HBO, home to the streaming site Max.
According to the data site, "Caddo Lake" is the most popular movie on HBO today, outpacing Gary Dauberman's long-anticipated "Salem's Lot" remake and some 2024 theatrical releases, including Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's "Bad Boys: Ride Or Die," Mark Wahlberg's inspirational stray dog flick "Arthur The King,...

There is something quite creepy about getting lost in the woods. The filmmaking duo Celine Held and Logan George add something unique to that trippy and intriguing story. Caddo Lake stars Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, and Diana Hopper. The film explores the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl and the lives it affects. To say too much might be a disservice, as there is much to admire here. All the performances are terrific, but Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen who stand out in this complex and grounded tale. The two are exceptional, and given the impressive script, it offers both much to work with.

Despite being born and spending much of my life on the other side of the Atlantic, I’ve always been a fan of Saturday Night Live. The live format, which not only allows for constant improvisation but also for countless memorable moments of actors breaking character, is immensely appealing, as is the show’s structure – a collection of distinct sketches with musical performances. So naturally, a film based on the pilot episode, specifically the 90 minutes leading up to the broadcast, caught my attention.
Saturday Night is the title of the movie and was also the name of the original show due to a conflict with another late-night program, Saturday Night Live with Howard Cosell. After that show was canceled, SNL adopted the title it’s known by today, becoming a cultural phenomenon that, despite having its greatest impact in its home country, still crossed borders and reached audiences everywhere. It was no small feat to get “Saturday Night Live” off the ground at NBC, and as a result, the cast of “Saturday Night” is pretty huge. In many cases, the actors also look eerily similar to the people they’re playing.
Hitting theaters everywhere on Oct. 11 after a limited theatrical release in New York and Los Angeles, Jason Reitman’s “Saturday Night” tells the story of the 90 minutes right before the first-ever episode of “SNL.” It’s chaotic and at the time, even Lorne Michaels couldn’t explain what the show was going to be.
Below, you’ll find the cast of “Saturday Night” alongside what their real-life counterparts looked like back then.

Lorne Michaels is the creator and, to this day, producer of “Saturday Night Live.” He’s played in “Saturday Night” by Gabriel Labelle, who had his breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s “The Fabelmans.

M. Night Shyamalan is far from being a unanimous name within the industry, both on the side of studios that choose whether or not to invest in the filmmaker, and among audiences who find themselves either pleasantly surprised or disappointed by his often divisive films. That said, it’s hard to deny his impact on capturing viewers’ attention, even when he only serves as a producer, as is the case with Caddo Lake, written and directed by the duo Celine Held and Logan George (Topside). With an attractive cast led by Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) and Eliza Scanlen (Little Women), expectations rose even higher with the narrative premise.

Dylan O’Brien is opening up about the safety concerns he had on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure, which resulted in the actor sustaining serious injuries in an accident while filming.
The Saturday Night star looked back at the “life-changing incident” during a recent interview with Men’s Health. In 2016, O’Brien was shooting the third installment in the Maze Runner franchise when he was pulled off the top of a moving vehicle unexpectedly while wearing a harness and hit by another vehicle.
“I’ve approached everything differently, you could say, particularly with regard to standing my ground on set,” he said of how the experience impacted his life. “It’s very commonplace in the culture for young actors to be controlled, and the way they strive to do that is by always being like, ‘Oh, don’t become difficult. Don’t be a pain in the ass.

It’s been almost a decade since Dylan O’Brien nearly died on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure after a tragic accident. The actor was reportedly in a harness on top of a moving vehicle when he was unexpectedly pulled off and hit by another vehicle. Production was shut down while O’Brien recovered, and it took an entire year before he was able to return to finish the film. O’Brien spoke about the accident with Men’s Health, revealing that he had raised safety concerns before the accident but was ignored.

M. Night Shyamalan certainly has been busy this year pushing out his signature brand of twisty thrillers. So far in 2024 we have had his daughter’s directorial effort, The Watchers, which he produced; the intriguing modest hit Trap, which stars another daughter and which he directed and produced; and now Caddo Lake, which is being heavily advertised as from “Producer M. Night Shyamalan.” Set for a streaming debut on Max starting Thursday rather than going theatrical like the rest of his feature output, the pic unmistakably fits right into his own filmography, even if he turned over writing and directing reins to the team of Celine Held and Logan George.
Actually this one went into production exactly three years ago under the title The Vanishing at Caddo Lake — while Shyamalan still was working his now-wrapped Apple TV+ series Servant, which happens to be a key credit for his filmmakers here...

Plot: When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history.
Review: When you stick the name M. Night Shyamalan in your marketing, you promise audiences a particular type of film. The trailer for Caddo Lake boasts Shyamalan’s credit as producer, coupled with the October debut on Max, making it seem like Caddo Lake is a dark thriller or horror film when it is anything but. Set in the sprawling wetland on the border between Louisiana and Texas, the real Caddo Lake is a protected body of water that has been important to indigenous peoples since before the United States even existed. With oil discovered in the late 20th Century, the lake took on a different importance, which factors into this mystery with an unexpected twist. With strong leading performances from Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen,...

Salem's Lot is widely regarded as one of Stephen King's best - and perhaps more importantly, most terrifying - novels, which is why the new adaptation currently streaming on Max simply didn't cut it for the majority of fans and critics.
The movie follows the basic premise, but does not flesh out the main characters enough and is seriously lacking in scares and gore (pretty much every kill takes place off-screen) despite the R rating. It also leaves out some major story elements, including Ben Mears' childhood connection to the Marsten House.
In the book, this haunted house is almost a character in its own right, and is the source of evil in the town of Jerusalem's Lot that attracts Kurt Barlow and Richard Straker in the first place. Ben is left traumatized after sneaking into the house as a child, and returns to "The Lot" to confront his...

The themes of entrapment and the fight for survival in a manufactured environment have become recurrent narrative tropes in 21st-century cinema. While Vincenzo Natali’s “Cube” (1997) put a sci-fi spin on the survival quest of a group of strangers, the Japanese action thriller “Battle Royale” and similar iterations (including the hit Netflix series “Squid Game”) found grim sociopolitical parallels to our contemporary dog-eat-dog world. The winsome young adult stories like “Hunger Games” and “Maze Runner” put a dystopian cloak to the survival game tales. Then there were also richly allegorical dystopian visions in movies like “The Snowpiercer” and “The Platform.” The latter of the two – from Spanish filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia – felt like an assortment of familiar sociopolitical elements ensconced within this familiar narrative, but it offered unique twisty visual delights and an ever-deepening metaphor for social inequality.

“Fortnite” creator Epic Games kicked off its Unreal Fest event Tuesday with the debut of Unreal Engine 5.5 and previews for new features of the massively popular video-game-building tool. Used to produce not only Aaa game titles, but also big-budget VFX-heavy shows like “The Mandalorian” and Tim Miller’s upcoming Amazon animated video game-focused anthology TV series “Secret Level,” Unreal Engine is Epic’s pride and joy and the service is adding more features to make it an attractive production tool for Hollywood.
Top of mind for Epic today was Unreal’s new experimental “MegaLights,” which “enables you to use orders of magnitude more lights than ever before—all movable, dynamic, with realistic area shadows and the ability to light volumetric fog.

Stephen Graham has joined the cast of “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” the upcoming movie starring Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen.
Graham, whose credits include “Peaky Blinders,” “Snatch,” “Gangs of New York” and “This Is England,” will play the Boss’ dad, Douglas “Dutch” Springsteen, Variety hears.
The film, directed by Scott Cooper, is set to begin shooting sometime in the fall.
From 20th Century Studios, “Deliver Me From Nowhere” follows Springsteen during the making of his 1982 album “Nebraska,” a dark, stripped-down record that marked an artistic shift from “Born to Run” and “Darkness on the Edge of Town.”
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser as guitar tech Mike Batlan, as well as Odessa Young, who is rumored to play a love interest. Variety reported in May that Jeremy Strong is in talks to portray Jon Landau, Springsteen’s longtime manager.

Max has released the trailer and poster for its original film Caddo Lake, which will debut on the streaming service on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The movie comes from writer-directors Celine Held and Logan George and producer M. Night Shyamalan.
When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history.
The cast includes Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, Diana Hopper, Caroline Falk, and Sam Hennings, with Eric Lange and Lauren Ambrose.
The inspiration for Caddo Lake was sparked after filmmakers Celine Held and Logan George came across a photograph of the real Caddo Lake online, leading to many visits to the cypress forest that rests on the border of Texas and Louisiana. The film was shot in late 2021 and 2022 in and around Karnak, Texas.
The movie was produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, Kara Durrett and Josh Godfrey.

Dylan O’Brien has admitted his audition for ‘Frozen II’ was "really bad".The 33-year-old actor recalled trying out for the 2019 Disney sequel but left the casting director disappointed when she found out that he couldn't sing to the standard required for the part.During an appearance on ‘Late Night with Seth Myers’, O’Brien said: "This poor woman. I remember, actually — this is a specific detail — she asked me, painfully, if I could get to the chorus because she needed to see if I had a certain range. [I was] swimming in the first verse a little bit [and then] went higher ... it was really bad. I knew. She knew. It’s okay."When she said to me, ‘Okay, okay’… She said two ‘okays.’ I’ll never forget it."And then she said, ‘Thank you for coming in. I think we’d probably need a bit of a stronger singer.’ and I was already just nodding,...

What do young adult novel adaptations, post-apocalyptic movies, and films involving shadowy corporations messing around unscrupulously have in common? For one thing, they're all a dime a dozen. For another, they're all aspects of the trilogy of films adapted from "The Maze Runner," a series of novels by author James Dashner.
Like so much YA fiction from the '00s, Dasher's novels gained a passionately loyal fan following, leading to 20th Century Fox becoming interested in developing them for the big screen in the hope that the studio would have its very own "Hunger Games." The parallels between both franchises are certainly there on the surface: preteen-to-older-teen heroes being forced to participate in deadly encounters while fighting the scourge of authoritarianism. However, where "Hunger Games" and its films are far more politically and philosophically-minded, "The Maze Runner" goes in a much more genre flick direction. It's one of the...

Dylan O’Brien is looking back at his audition for Frozen 2, which didn’t necessarily go as planned.
The Saturday Night actor recently made an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, where the host asked him about his failed audition for the 2019 animated sequel, which saw Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel return as sisters Anna and Elsa, respectively.
O’Brien said he didn’t go into the audition with high hopes of landing the role “because I knew that I probably wasn’t going to get it.” The actor didn’t disclose which character he auditioned for.
“They’re looking for multitalented, multi-hyphenate people who can act and sing,” he told Seth Meyers of the musical film. “And I didn’t check, to be honest, probably either.”
The Teen Wolf alum acknowledged that he “can’t sing,” but decided to audition because he doesn’t “always feel like a real actor.

Writer Steven Knight has revealed he thought “Game of Thrones” was a kids show until he cast one of its actors in his own series.
Knight, who’s perhaps best known for creating Cillian Murphy-starrer “Peaky Blinders,” was speaking at the Royal Television Society conference in London, in conversation with BBC journalist Katie Razzall when he made the admission.
He recalled how his young son was obsessed with “Game of Thrones,” asking for a DVD boxset for Christmas, which Knight was happy to provide having seen it featured dragons. It was only when he came to cast “Game of Thrones” alum Aidan Gillen in “Peaky Blinders” he realized the George R. R. Martin-created series had more adult themes.
When someone suggested Gillen for “Peaky,” they told Knight that he plays the brothel keeper in “Game of Thrones.” Knight responded in shock: “What are you talking about? It’s a kid’s show!

"It's ridiculous, frankly, that a studio head, Emma Watts of Fox at the time, saw my little animated short, which was really all I had done and said, 'Here is $24 million, go make a movie.'" Those are the words of director Wes Ball speaking with DiscussingFilm in 2020. The movie in question is 2014's "The Maze Runner." While the final budget was closer to $34 million, the astonishing point remains the same. Yes, Ball getting to direct the film based on the strength of his short "Ruin" is surprising. Far more surprising? That he made a straight-up YA blockbuster for less than half what it cost to make "The Hunger Games."

The golden age of young adult dystopian films is already behind us, but some are still attempting to change that. Take, for instance, Joey King’s new Netflix movie. Based on the novel by Scott Westerfeld, Uglies revolves around a future post-apocalyptic dystopian society where everyone is compelled to look pretty.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for Uglies on Netflix.
Uglies star and producer Joey King first became aware of Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies book series when she was 11 years old, and now more than 10 years later, her pitch to adapt the first book into a film to Netflix will yield its result.
Uglies is based in a futuristic society that requires teenagers to get a cosmetic surgery once they turn 16 to make them “pretty,” or devoid of facial flaws with a toned body. Tally Youngblood (King) dreams of the day she can have the operation and get a symmetrical face, until her new friend Shay (Brianne Tsu) runs away to the rumored community known as The Smoke with the mysterious man David (Keith Powers), and Dr. Cable (Laverne Cox) sends her after Shay with the blackmail that she will never get surgery if she doesn’t retrieve her missing friend.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for the movie Uglies.
Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies has made it to the big screen at long last.
After its publication in 2005, the first novel of four by the author gathered a big readership as a precursor to YA dystopia stories like The Hunger Games, Divergent, The Maze Runner and more. The story follows Tally Youngblood, who lives in a society that values face symmetry over anything else. All citizens within the society receive a mandatory surgical operation that makes them “pretty,” evening out their facial flaws and physiques.
Throughout the books, Tally gets an outside perspective on the operation that she once wanted more than anything else, first from a community of rebels who have escaped various cities to live a simpler life in a community they call The Smoke. Review: After Harry Potter and The Hunger Games were adapted for the big screen, every studio wanted to launch a franchise based on a Young Adult book series. While Twilight was the biggest success, countless other series were met with lukewarm receptions yet still delivered multiple sequels. It has been several years since The Maze Runner, Percy Jackson, and Divergent stopped adding to their intellectual property while countless others failed to get past an initial entry. Based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Scott Westerfeld, Uglies is Netflix’s belated attempt to attract the YA audience with what is intended to be the first in a potential quadrilogy.

An empty and exasperating teen book adaptation, set in a future where beautiful people rule the world, is one of the year’s most pointless films
It’s been a few years since Hollywood’s rush for young adult dystopian franchises, from The Hunger Games to Divergent to The Maze Runner. Which makes Uglies, a new Netflix adaptation of Scott Westerfeld’s 2005 novel intended to kick off a new trilogy, already feel out of time. The exceedingly derivative film, directed by McG (Netflix’s Babysitter: Killer Queen) clearly tries to evoke its famous precedents, even hiring Divergent screenwriter Vanessa Taylor, along with Jacob Forman and Whit Anderson, for a script that takes broad swipes at the predominant dystopian YA themes: physical and emotional change, staying true to one’s values, remembering who the real enemy is.
Credit to Uglies for this: in the year 2024, plastic surgery and a beauty standard...

Salem’s Lot 2024 is set “circa 1975 (when King’s book was first published).”
In Salem’s Lot 2024, “Haunted by an incident from his childhood, author Ben Mears returns to his hometown of Jerusalem’s Lot in search of inspiration for his next book, only to discover the town is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire and his loyal servant.

Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service Max has revealed a first look at its original film Caddo Lake, which will debut on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The movie comes from producer M. Night Shyamalan and writer-directors Celine Held and Logan George.

This year, "Saturday Night Live" wrapped up its 49th season and held on to the title of TV's top-rated comedy for a fifth year running. But back when the show first premiered -- at 11:30pm on October 11, 1975 -- it was shaping up to be a total disaster. As the poster for "Saturday Night," Jason Reitman's upcoming account of that fateful night, neatly summarizes:
"The writers are inebriated. The set is on fire. The sound system is wrecked. The actors are physically assaulting each other. The crew is in open revolt. They have 90 minutes to figure it all out or the network is pulling the plug."
The first episode of "Saturday Night" did ultimately make it to air, but was a bit of a mixed bag according to reviewers at the time. The movie about the making of that first episode, however, was a massive crowd-pleaser for the audience...

“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” director Wes Ball peeled back the curtain on Wētā FX‘s Oscar-worthy VFX in “Inside the Lens: The Raw Cut,” a full-length, split-screen comparison between the final cut of the film and a version with unfinished VFX. Featuring optional commentary by Ball, editor Dan Zimmerman, and production VFX supervisor Erik Winquist, “The Raw Cut” appears on the supplemental Blu-ray in the 4K Ultra HD set available now.
This VFX deep dive is a first for the “Apes” franchise (which has yet to win the coveted VFX Oscar). Ball (“The Maze Runner”) followed Matt Reeves (“The Batman”) with a post-Caesar (Andy Serkis) reboot, some 300 years later when apes rule the planet. “Kingdom” revolves around chimp teenager Noa (Owen Teague), forced to rescue his Eagle Clan (named for bonding with the majestic bird) from the evil clutches of militant chimp ruler Proximus Caesar (Kevin Durand). Along the way,...
