Driving through an unforgiving blizzard in the Colorado Rockies, a fateful mistake at the wheel finds David Petersen trapped in a ravine. But freezing temperatures soon become the least of his worries. Amidst the darkness, something sinister stalks David. Battling against the elements and a relentless predator, David must summon every ounce of courage and resourcefulness just to stay alive.

The 44th edition of genre film festival Fantasporto, which runs in Portugal’s second city Porto from March 1-10, has bestowed its best film award on Japanese sci-fi fantasy pic “From the End of the World,” directed by Kaz I Kiriya.

The movie follows 10-year-old Hana, whose dreams transport her across various eras in Japanese history, and have the ability to save humanity.

The jury’s special award went to “The Complex Forms,” Italian director Fabio D’Orta’s debut feature. The sci-fi horror centers on a man who has sold his body so it can be possessed by a creature of unknown nature.

If this UK-Canadian thriller has a wind-hardened snowcrust of malice, it’s somewhat less dense under the surface – though still an enjoyable punt from the digital-release ranks. Amiable but downtrodden waitress Ana (Nina Bergman) has her bacon saved by chance diner David (Allen Leech) when her abusive husband Vincent (Yan Tual) comes calling. Eerily calm in the face of having his dessert desecrated and a potential shanking, David drives off unharmed. But, redneck to the core, Vincent tailgates him; skidding into a snow drift, David is stuck in the Colorado Rockies in a -40C blizzard with, of course, no mobile reception.

Level 33 Entertainment has announced the upcoming release of Cold Meat, being described as “a serial killer survival thriller with a killer hook set during a dangerous snow blizzard.”

Cold Meat will be playing in limited theaters and arriving On Demand February 23.

The film premiered at FrightFest London 2023, where it was nominated for a slew of awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor (Allen Leech), and Best Scare.
