Prime Video got off to a fast start this summer with the release of The Boys season 3 on June 3. Now, as we enter the dog days, Prime Video is set to keep the warm weather good times rolling with a new twist on an old classic. That’s right, Amazon’s list of new releases for August 2022 is highlighted by some good old-fashioned baseball.
A League of Their Own, the TV adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie, is set to premiere on Aug. 12. Like the movie before it, the series will dramatize the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League which saw women playing America’s pastime while the major leagues were on pause for World War II. Abbi Jacobson (Broad City) co-created the show and will star as catcher Carson Shaw.
Other Prime Video Originals of note this month include season 2 of British comedy The Outlaws on and the Ron Howard-directed Thirteen Lives,...

Prime Video will continue rolling out its summer slate in the month of August, releasing new original series, as well as a mix of suspenseful films, action movies and more.
Amazon’s series version of “A League of Their Own” will debut its eight-episode first season on Aug. 12, introducing new characters and stories set in the historical opening of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl).
Ron Howard’s “Thirteen Lives” tells the real-life story of how a young boys’ soccer team was rescued from the Thai mountain cave where they got stuck for 10 days along with their coach.
Other new film arrivals include hits from earlier this summer, “The Lost City” starring Sandra Bullock, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt, as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” Academy Award-nominated film “Licorice Pizza” also arrives on Prime Video this month.
Freevee will also have new arrivals this month.

The Revenant and Mission: Impossible – Fallout star Kristoffer Joner is to front Swedish-Norwegian action thriller The Machinery for Svod service Viaplay.
The Nordic Entertainment Group-backed streaming service has ordered the eight-part series, to debut in 2020.
It is the latest original for the company, which is rapidly ramping up its slate of originals with A-list talent. In May, Deadline revealed that Brendan Fraser is to star in The Professionals, a loose remake of the Christian Slater-fronted action movie Soldiers of Fortune for the platform, and in March it signed up Shades of Blue creator Adi Hasak to create Margeaux, an international drama about the Munich Olympic massacre.
In The Machinery, Joner plays family man Olle, who wakes up on a ferry between Sweden and Norway with no memory of how he got there. What happened? Why is there a gun, a balaclava and a suitcase full of cash next to him?...

Casanova Acedia #2

Lettering by Dustin K. Harbin
Back-up Story by Michael Chabon & Gabriel Ba
Published by Image Comics
Last time you checked in with Casanova: Acedia, you had the best guide possible: Jake, a man that’s followed the previous 3 Casanova volumes, knows the titular character, his backstory and lore. This time? Well, this time, you will be as curious and clueless as Mr. Quentin Cassiday.
The book opens with a flashback—a memory, even—brought about by an old photo showing a young Boutique and his fellow mercenaries? Soldiers of fortune? Spies? Who they are isn’t revealed but good money says Boutique knows, as he’s mid-reminiscing when Cassiday comes in post-library battle from the end of issue 1.

Mainstream horror has shifted from gore to ghosts and found footage in the past few years, but there's still room for a good old fashioned splatter film here and there. Image Entertainment has acquired "Cabin Fever: Patient Zero," the third film in the horror franchise started by Eli Roth's cult classic "Cabin Fever." Directed by Kaare Andrews ("Altitude," "The ABCs of Death"), the film follows a group of friends enjoying a bachelor weekend in a yacht on the Caribbean. Because these things never go well, they find a remote island and stumble upon an abandoned research facility, where a deadly flesh-eating virus waits for them. They then have to find an uninfected survivor, "Patient Zero," in order to survive. The film stars Sean Astin ("The Lord of the Rings"), Currie Graham (Pompeii), Ryan Donowho (Soldiers of Fortune"), Mitch Ryan ("One Tree Hill"), and Jillian Murphy ("Bad Ass"), and follows...

The first time you saw the trailer for Bullet to the Head, you probably did the same thing as me. You rolled your eyes and made some snide comment to the person sitting next to you. But if you’re really like me, then afterwords you felt a distinct feeling in your gut. You felt excited. You wouldn’t admit that until later, but a movie called Bullet to the Head starring Sylvester Stallone and directed by Walter Hill sounds like all kinds of awesome.
The trailer, for those unfamiliar, actually had the audacity to play Foreigner and hip hop music! It had cringe-inducing lines like: “I’m a people person.” Ugh. So awful… awesomely awful, that is!
But the hate has been predictable. Movie-goers and bloggers are regularly rolling their eyes at this venture and laughing at Stallone and company. They poke fun at everything from the conceit to...

Soldiers Of Fortune (2012) Maxim Korostyshevsky’s “Soldiers of Fortune” has a pretty cool premise, which makes the fact that it’s such a bad movie rather disappointing. It goes a little something like this: rich tycoons pay for the privilege of fighting in a real war, albeit with ex-Special Forces operators like Christian Slater as their personal bodyguards. The whole thing is the brainchild of siblings trying to fund a rebellion on their small island nation, which is currently in the iron grips of a two-bit warlord and his ex-cia right-hand man played by Colm Meaney, doing what Colm Meaney does best in movies like this, which is play the officious douche. Slater’s character is an ex-Army Captain booted out of the service when he disregards the orders of — you guessed it — a certain CIA douche. The two enemies meet up again when Slater leads the rich guys onto the island,...

Title: Soldiers of Fortune Cast: Christian Slater, Ving Rhames, Sean Bean Directed by: Maxim Korostyshevsky Yet another B-grade Christian Slater film. First the disastrous Assassin’s Bullet, now Soldiers of Fortune. While the former is an insult to the intellect, the latter is an insult to common decency. This is apparently Maxim Korostyshevsky’s debut feature film and it shows. In this one, Slater plays Craig McCenzie, a soldier who was dishonorably discharged after refusing to follow orders that would have required him to leave another soldier–a friend, no less–behind to die. Maxim’s directorial debut is pure propaganda at its worst. He makes some half-baked attempts at making war and killing seem so [ Read More ]...

Now that we're into the first week of August, the end of the summer is in sight and the theatrical releases will soon start dropping off in quality. In fact, that drop in quality may have already begun this weekend with Len Wiseman's remake of Total Recall being the only major release along with the third installment in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In select theatres, we've got 360 from the director of City of God, the Broken Lizard comedy The Babymakers starring Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn, and a handful of documentaries including the Zach Galifianakis-produced Craigslist Joe. It's certainly not the strongest crop of new films, but it will be interesting to see how Total Recall performs and whether loyalty to the original will hold it back. What will you be watching this weekend? Total Recall Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days Soldiers of Fortune...

A trailer was released by IGN for Soldiers of Fortune, which stars Christian Slater, Ving Rhames, Sean Bean, Dominic Monaghan, and James Cromwell. In the trailer they use the word 'expendable' probably hoping that will help people draw an obvious comparison to Stallone's super team-up action flick. Too bad this film looks extremely pale in that comparison. The premise of the movie, which revolves around wealthy thrill-seekers who pay hefty premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only to be put in actual danger, is more reminiscent of Tropic Thunder. Once again Soldiers of Fortune loses out, with nothing in the trailer amounting to more than a faint chuckle. Even with some damn fine actors, there's seems to be not one ounce of chemistry between the cast. I'll be waiting for this one to show up on TV when I'm in a hotel. Maaaaaaybe I'l watch it then. No promises though.

Sometimes a movie trailer comes along and wrestles you into submission with the audacity of its premise. Sometimes a movie's casting is intriguing enough to at least throw the flick into your queue. And sometimes it is a combination thereof that has you chomping for some matinee fodder. The upcoming Soldiers of Fortune is just that: Crazy (literally) casting and absurd concept... Voila.
Starring — and who doesn't want to be at this party — Christian Slater (True Romance), Ving Rhames (Piranha 3Dd), Sean Bean (Mirror, Mirror), Dominic Monaghan (Lost), Colm Meaney (Bel Ami), and James Cromwell (The Artist), Soldiers of Fortune follows a group of bored one-percenters who, not content to go for the dude ranch experience a la City Slickers, want to "experience the kicks and thrills of war" firsthand. Led by Slater, who plays a former Us special forces soldier, the group's carefully orchestrated "war" experience goes ridiculously awry.

“Soldiers of Fortune” is about rich guys that pay to play war, but end up in a real war zone, with real guys trying to kill them. And it co-stars Sean Bean. Did I mention it’s an action movie with stuff blowing up and people shooting guns in just about every scene? Sean Bean has enough difficulty surviving movies where he just sits around the porch, but in a violent movie like this? Man, I don’t give the poor guy a whole lot of chances of leaving this movie in one piece. My guess is you’ll be able to catch the flick when it lands on DVD/Blu-ray later this year. Until then, check out the trailer, check them outers. Wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things don’t go exactly to plan. Besides Bean, the film also stars Christian Slater,...

Joseph LoDuca is scoring the upcoming action comedy Freaky Deaky. The film directed by Charles Matthau is based on the novel by Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, Out of Sight). The movie starring Billy Burke, Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, Michael Jai White, Breanne Racano and Roger Bart centers on a Lapd bomb squad officer who stumbles upon a plot by two former hippie activists who plan to use their bomb-making skills to trick an alcoholic movie mogul into handing over millions of dollars. An adaptation of the Leonard’s crime novel has been in development for years with Quentin Tarantino and John Malkovich being attached to the project at one point. Freaky Deaky is currently in post-production and is expected to be released in 2012.
As previously announced, the composer also has the action adventure Soldiers of Fortune starring Sean Bean, Christian Slater, Dominic Monaghan, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Freddy Rodriguez and Colm Meaney coming up.

Before Charlie Bewley was cast as "Demetri" in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, he was just finishing up Vancouver Film School, and he had few credits to his name aside from a couple of film school shorts ("Stuffed" and "Robotron"). Now, he's scoring roles that take him Sundance (Like Crazy). The latest from Bewley is a cameo in Slightly Single In L.A., and you can see a snippet of him in the trailer (attached).Given the context of his appearance and the dialogue given in the video, Bewley's character, Hayden, is obviously not the hero of the story in this film. He's got a couple of other new projects under way as well, per IMDb, called The Outback (an animated film) and The First Ride Of Wyatt Earp; and he's completed working on Soldiers Of Fortune and Ecstasy (the trailer …...

Joseph LoDuca has signed on to score the upcoming action adventure film Soldiers of Fortune. The film is directed by Maksim Korostyshevsky and stars Sean Bean, Christian Slater, Dominic Monaghan, Ving Rhames, James Cromwell, Freddy Rodriguez and Colm Meaney. In the movie, a group of wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things don’t go exactly to plan. Soldiers of Fortune was shot last year around the Ukraine and is currently awaiting a release date.
LoDuca has recently scored the Starz mini-series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which aired earlier this year. The series is a prequel to last year’s Spartacus: Blood and Sand. The project created by Steven S. DeKnight and starring John Hannah, Lucy Lawless, Dustin Clare, Peter Mensah and Jaime Murray tells the story of the original Champion of the House of Batiatus: Gannicus, the first gladiator to become Champion of Capua.

Dominic Monaghan rose to prominence as the young hobbit called Meriadoc ('Merry') Brandybuck in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy, before going on to appear in cult TV show Lost.
He played the electricity-manipulating mutant Chris Bradley, codenamed Bolt, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and more recently starred as the scientific genius Simon Campos in sci-fi series FlashForward, which is now out on DVD.
Dominic, 33, who was born in Berlin and moved to Britain with his parents when he was 11, speaks here about FlashForward, Lost and his new film Soldiers of Fortune as well as giving his views on the big-screen version of The Hobbit.
He admits he'd love to have played Bilbo Baggins in the two-part Tolkien adaptation. Athough it has today emerged that Martin Freeman has landed that role, Dominic still hopes he could return as Meriadoc if the second Hobbit film bridges the gap to the first Lord of the Rings movie.

I love the sound of Maksim Korostyshevsky's Soldiers of Fortune because it sounds totally plausible. Uber rich thriller seekers pay to have themselves inserted into military ops and then all hell breaks loose. I also liked the cast - a ensemble that will no doubt play up the odd-couple antics.
The film stars Sean Bean, Domonic Monaghan, Ving Rhames, Christian Slater and the legendary James Cromwell and if you're at all interested in seeing them together and dressed in fatigues then look no further than the gallery after the break. I particularly like the one of Bean dressed in yacht gear brandishing a rocket launcher.
With any luck we'll see some footage soon.

Before becoming "Demetri" for the Twilight series, Charlie Bewley hadn't had a lot of experience in the film world, but The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse have helped Bewley garner not only a passionate fanbase but also a few new forthcoming projects.
Speaking to Pique, he talked about Twilight fans on Twitter, saying "They're like really protective of me! If anyone kind of has a go at me on Twitter, they're in there and they just rip to pieces whoever it was ... Aside from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, Bewley also has a couple of other projects lined up, it seems, including Ecstasy (self-explanatory), Soldiers Of Fortune (with Christian Slater, Sean Bean, Ving Rhames and Dominic Moynahan), and Like Crazy ("another independen ..
