When the 87th Oscar nominations for best animated feature were announced Jan. 15 and excluded The Lego Movie, the Internet exploded with confusion and disbelief. The film, which was largely expected by many pundits to win the Oscar, was a critical (holding a 96 percent positive score on Rotten Tomatoes) and commercial hit (earning $257.7 million stateside). It also earned Golden Globe and BAFTA Award nominations and won the Critics’ Choice Award for best animated film. It seemingly had everything going in its favor, so what went wrong?
One sentiment is that the animation branch of the Academy, which chooses the nominations, admire hand-drawn traditional animation and want to celebrate and preserve a fading craft rather than nominate solely computer animated and digital films.
The first computer animated film was Toy Story, which was released in 1995 and was nominated for original screenplay, original song and original score. Director...

Like a naughty little TV star, Alec Baldwin's been teasing the end of 30 Rock, which is likely to end after season 7. I don't know about you, but 30 Rock is my personal choice for the greatest sitcom ever. Yes, I've seen I Love Lucy. And Seinfeld. And All in the Family. And The Mary Tyler Moore Show. And Webster. But 30 Rock packs more jokes, love, and finesse into its 30 minutes than any other series. I'll miss it so, so much.
And that's what leads me to today's topic: the eternal hotness of Alec Baldwin. As Jack Donaghy, he's self-assured and hilarious, but he's found a few others way to be hot in his 25-year career. Nudity is one of my favorite options.
So here they are, my choices for Alec Baldwin's 10 hottest moments. Liz Lemon, look out.
10. Look out, Kevin Bacon: Your best friend wants yo' lady

Ever since the last time Billy Crystal hosted the Academy Awards in 2004, the Oscars have been trying desperately to be cool. Just look at their post-Crystal hosting choices. They brought in Chris Rock. They brought in Ellen DeGeneres. They brought in Jon Stewart twice, once at a very specific cultural moment — the never-ending Presidential campaign of 2006-08 — when hiring Jon Stewart felt extremely transgressive. They brought in non-comedian Hugh Jackman. The 2010 Oscars felt like an old Saturday Night Live episode, with Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as co-hosts. The 2011 Oscars, conversely, felt like a new SNL episode, with...

The Secret of Kells (2010) is based on the famed Irish manuscript written in Latin; the Book of Kells contains the four Gospels of the New Testament. The manuscript was first transcribed by Celtic monks circa 800, and is praised for its brilliant illustrations and ornamentation. In 1953, the Book of Kells was bound in four volumes and has been enjoyed for generations. The original Book of Kells currently resides at the Trinity College Library in Dublin, Ireland. The film is set in the 9th century and follows twleve year old Abbot Cellach (Brendan Gleeson) who awaits a dangerous battle against the Vikings and a serpent god, in hopes to find a crystal and the legendary Book of Kells. Abbot Cellach is working hard for his uncle and fellow monks and when Brother Aidan enters the picture, young Abbot Cellach life changes forever. There are only 48 weeks left until the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
While the Oscars this year took place on the first Sunday in March to avoid going head-to-head with the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympics, next year's Oscar schedule, released Thursday, will culminate with the awards showing returning to the last Sunday in February, a spot on the calendar that it has occupied since 2004. That will effectively shorten awards season by at least a week.
The Academy has slotted Feb. 27 for its next Oscarcast.
The deadline for nomination ballots is Jan. 14; the nominations will be announced Jan. 25; and final ballots will be due Feb. 22.
The ceremony will once again take place at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland and be broadcast by ABC.
Separately, the Producers Guild of America also set dates for its 22nd annual Producers Guild Awards, which will take place on Saturday, Jan. 22.
The 2011 calendar is quickly filling up.

The 2010 Oscars may have come and gone, but the films and stars that took home the coveted golden man statues will continue to impact our dreams, our joy, our very cultural makeup. But much more important than that is what everybody was wearing to the party. Let Joel take you on a trip down fashion memory lane as we examine the incisive comments from some of Hollywood's most astute couture experts. And try and discover what the hell they were talking about. While that may be an exercise in head scratching, neophyte Oscar nom Gabourey Sidibe is perfectly clear when it comes to expressing her randy feelings for hunky Gerard Butler, and they beg only one question: Did the Butler do...

Oscar is the whore of Hollywood; the 82nd Academy Awards was sparkling, heartless and simply the dullest telecast of recent years. The modernizing of the Oscars, a variation on the heels of declining ratings, has produced a stargazing confection that overshadows the love of movies and their magic. Amusingly though, during a segment on producing short films, John Lasseter, co-founder and president of Pixar Animation, reveals the secret to filmmaking – “Telling a great story, entertaining the audience, that’s what’s gonna win you an Academy Award.” This is a revelation that Hollywood doesn’t regard, that Pixar knows how to produce consistently entertaining films despite the fact that they are animated. 2009 was a lackluster year for film, but Up and Up in the Air, cinematic stunners, both with true complexity, should have been recognized by the Academy. Up won the award for Best Animated Feature, in reality though it...

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
And just like that it’s over. The 82nd Annual Academy Awards have come and gone.
I added up my thoughts on the night, and wouldn’t you know it … I had exactly seven. This is perfect, because we do Top 7 lists here at The Scorecard Review. So as you can see, fate has brought us all here this morning/afternoon/night. Can you feel the goosebumps? Me too, me too.
It’s been three days since the Oscars, but with our news-cycle it seems like three weeks. I remember a day (I’m only 33) when I had to wait an entire week to get my Entertainment Weekly recap of the awards. So please bear with me, if you’ve moved on to only care about what could possibly happen to Robert Pattinson in a film with the title of Remember Me.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards were considered by many to be the best year of the Oscars, but Farrah Fawcett’s following felt slighted that the late actress wasn’t honored at the event.
Sunday’s broadcast included a tribute to Hollywood personalities who had died over the past year, but Fawcett’s career was never mentioned.
Citing the fact that Farrah was more prolific in television rather than movies, the Academy’s Bruce Davis told press, "There's nothing you can say to people, particularly to family members, within a day or two of the show that helps at all. They tend to be surprised and hurt, and we understand that and we're sorry for it."
Tatum O’Neal, the daughter of Fawcett’s longtime partner Ryan O’Neal, stated, "On behalf of myself, my father Ryan O’Neal and my entire family, we are deeply saddened that a truly...

The 2010 Oscars was full of surprises. But none so glaring as the omission of Farrah Fawcett in the yearly rundown of 'stars we've lost', prompting an Oscars boss to defend the decision. The executive director of the film academy said that Farrah Fawcett wasn't included in the Academy Awards' In Memoriam segment because the actress was better known as a TV star.

The 2010 Oscars were watched by 41 million people in the Us, the best audience for the awards since 2005
Approximately 41.3 million people in the Us watched the 2010 Oscars on Sunday, up 14% on last year and the best audience for the awards show in five years.
Sunday night's surge in viewing for the 82nd Academy Awards, broadcast on ABC, is likely to be attributed to the nine nominations garnered by Avatar even though it only won three awards, losing out in the best picture and best director categories to The Hurt Locker.
The uncertain outcome of the contest between Avatar's director, James Cameron, and his ex-wife, The Hurt Locker's director, Kathryn Bigelow, meant the three-and-a-half-hour-long ceremony was more popular than last year's Oscars, when Slumdog Millionaire dominated the awards.

"The Hurt Locker" became the lowest-grossing movie ever to win best picture, but that didn't stop "Avatar" fans from boosting ABC's Oscar telecast to stellar ratings Sunday night.
ABC's presentation of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards continued broadcast TV's winning streak of awards-show ratings, ranking as the most-watched Oscar telecast in five years.
The ceremony was seen by 41.3 million viewers, marking the second straight year of gains.
Given that the Golden Globes, Emmy Awards and Grammy Awards all posted ratings improvements this season, industry analysts expected the Oscars to climb as well -- especially with 10 nominees in the running for best picture, including boxoffice titan "Avatar," and $250 million-plus grossers "The Blind Side" and "Up."
A dispute between ABC's flagship station and Cablevision resulted in the telecast starting 15 minutes late for about 3.3 million viewers in the New York area, with many households doubtless taking longer to realize the channel was back on.

On the drive home from my Oscar party this evening I was reminded on the radio of a red carpet interview that Meg Tilly gave back in 1985. She had been nominated for Agnes of God and when asked what the nomination and/or win would do for her career, she said bluntly that she was more likely to be an answer to a Trivial Pursuit question. That is very much how the 82nd Academy Awards probably felt to a lot of viewers. While we can all rejoice in a new movie-themed edition of the board game that will ask "who was the first female to win a Best Director Oscar?", what else will we really remember? Will anyone beyond the Oscar reporters and prognosticators remember who won all the acting awards, who was snubbed and why we were all so angry during award season 2010? Maybe not, but in the moment...

Chicago – It was a triumph worthy of David and Goliath at The 82nd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7th, 2010. Summit Entertainment’s ‘The Hurt Locker’ became the lowest-grossing picture to take home the Best Picture Oscar, while its director, Kathryn Bigelow, became the first woman in history honored with the Academy Award for Best Director. The film won six awards total, including trophies for Best Original Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

“The Hurt Locker”’s biggest competitor couldn’t have been more formidable, considering it is now the highest-grossing film of all time. Yet “Avatar” ended up claiming only three awards, while “Crazy Heart,” “Up” and “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ By Sapphire” racked up two apiece. The major wins for “Hurt Locker” were a thrilling finale to a rather lackluster evening, devoid of the vitality and excitement found in recent years.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards happened last night. Let's not make a big thing of it. Wait... you want to? Oh all right. Go "The Hurt Locker"!!!! You Rawk, Kathryn Bigelow!!!!
Better? In all seriousness, it was a solid awards show. There were relatively few surprises, and those few were all welcome (like "Hurt Locker" taking Best Picture And Director over "Avatar"). The new format mostly worked. Canning the musical numbers left a lot more time for lengthy clips and classy presentations, like the previous collaborator-presenting-nominee format for the Best Actor/Actress categories.
Of course, the real bummer about watching a show like this on TV is not actually being there. It's great to see the winners in hi-def closeups as they deliver their acceptance speeches, but actually feeling the energy in the room takes things to a whole new level. Luckily, "Toy Story 3" director and Twitter-lover Lee Unkrich came prepared with a camera.

The 2010 Oscars have come and gone with The Hurt Locker standing out as the night's big winner. The acting awards went to this season's favorites - Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side, Mo'Nique for Precious, Jeff Bridges for Crazy Heart, and Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds. The show kicked off with Neil Patrick Harris's opening number, which was the perfect lead-in to Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin playing off each other throughout the night. Young Hollywood had an exciting evening as well with presenters including Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart, who both chatted backstage about being a bit nervous before stepping out. Kristen got to have a moment with her dad on the way in, which gave us a super sweet sighting. Zac Efron and Anna Kendrick also made a sweet duo giving out a statue together. The Academy Awards red carpet provided some excitement, of course, and...

The Hurt Locker was the big winner at this year's Oscars, emerging with six, including Kathryn Bigelow's history-making award for best director as well as best picture. Here's how Xan Brooks liveblogged the night
11.45pm: The 82nd annual Academy Awards begin with a carpet. This carpet is richly red and freshly laundered. It is guarded by security goons and bathed in spotlights.
Up the carpet come the early arrivals: the nominated and the not nominated and the milling dignitaries who don't seem quite sure where they are going. Some simple compass points: the street is behind them and the Kodak theatre is up ahead. After that you're on your own.
Few of these arrivals are as early as Mariah Carey, who breezily explains that she is on "Mariah Time". This presumably means that she can come and go as she pleases, and may well decide to take a nap...

The 2010 Oscars provided an interesting show to say the least ... if only because our beloved genre finally got some of the recognition that it so richly deserves.
Roger Corman was present and acknowledged by the crowd as an Honorary Oscar recipient, and both Bob Murawski of Grindhouse Releasing and Kathryn Bigelow (Near Dark) took home the gold for their respective editing and directorial work on the acclaimed flick The Hurt Locker.
It was an extremely good night for horror all around punctuated by a Paranormal Activity spoof starring hosts Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as well as The Twilight Saga's Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart introducing a long overdue "Salute to Horror".
Miss the show? Check out the interesting bits below courtesy of YouTube and a camera handy viewer.

It was Kathryn Bigelow's night at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. Her film, "The Hurt Locker" took home six trophies including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing. (photo courtesy of ABC.com)
James Cameron's "Avatar," nominated for 9 nods along with "The Hurt Locker" took home three trophies for Best Visual Effects, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction.
Bigelow made history by being the first woman to win the Best Director trophy. She called her winning the "moment of a lifetime," and it is indeed!
All in all, it was a fun night, for me at least (check out my minute-by-minute Oscar blogfest right here).

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards red carpet was a madhouse this evening, as it always is. MTV's Josh Horowitz was there to deliver a live streaming account of the festivities, with interviews and category previews to take you into the big show. One of the familiar faces he chatted with was Keanu Reeves, who was on-hand to present Best Picture nominee "The Hurt Locker" for his "Point Break" director Kathryn Bigelow. Since he had Reeves' ear, Josh asked if we might be seeing a new "Bill & Ted's" follow-up at some point in the future. And it seems we might be!
It's hard to tell if he's serious or simply placating when he says this, but Reeves responded to Josh's question with, "I'm trying, I'm trying." This gave Josh pause. Could the "Point Break" star be serious? "Sure," he said.
Really? Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves, together again?! He's got to be joking.

Well its all over for the 82nd Academy Awards and I am sure we will have lots to say about the awards given, not received, snubbs, etc. but for now how about just a list of the winners from the big night? The Hurt Locker as predicted by many was the big winner of the night getting 6 total awards including Best Director and Best Picture. Avatar got some heavy weight tech awards but The King of the World’s crown was relinquished to a Queen as Kathryn Bigelow beat out the most financially successful film ever, Avatar.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards has just been wrapped and "The Hurt Locker" comes home victorious that night with six kudos, more than other movies. The drama has successfully beaten out strong competitors such as "Avatar", "Up in the Air", "Inglourious Basterds" as well as "Up" to get the title of Best Motion Picture of the Year.
"The Hurt Locker" celebration is completed with Kathryn Bigelow's win for Best Achievement in Directing category. Though it comes as no surprise for most people, the helmer keeps grounded during her acceptance speech and thanks the troops, saying "They're there for us, and we're there for them." The other Oscars statuettes collected by the film are for Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing as well as Best Original Screenplay.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards were a fairly lackluster affair, highlighted perhaps by the strange white woman who Kanye'd the winner of an Oscar for a short film. Otherwise, Neil Patrick Harris' opening number wasn't all that thrilling, other than the fact that it was Nph; Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were conservative and only intermittently funny; and the best presenters went to Tina Fey and Robert Downey, Jr. The night's low point? Twilight being included in the horror-movie montage.
And Sandra Bullock. Huh? Jesus. Likable as all hell, but ... oh, whatever. She's kind of too nice to allow myself to get too bent out of shape. But Sandra Bullock? Are you fucking kidding me?
It wasn't actually as painful as I thought it'd be. And having Bullock and Bigelow win back to back, followed by The Hurt Locker for Best Picture was kind of a nice way to end the night.

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards have have just wrapped in Hollywood with "The Hurt Locker" dominating the scene with six wins including Best Picture and Best Director. "Avatar" scored three, while "Precious," "Crazy Heart" and "Up" took two each.
There were few surprises with many categories won by the odds on favourites. Exceptions included adapted screenplay going to "Precious" rather than "Up in the Air" and foreign film going to Argentinan entry "El Secreto de Sus Ojos" rather than "A Prophet" or "The White Ribbon".
Despite a more formal sense to the ceremony itself, the broadcast proved a bit of a shambles production wise with audio dropouts, poor choices of clips and just a general sense of awkwardness that lacked much of the polish of last year's slicker style.
A complete list of the winners below:

Kathryn Bigelow wins best director at Oscars! The 82nd Annual Academy Awards is down to the final and most important award of the entire ceremony -- 'Best Picture'! This evening must have been pretty awkward for both Kathryn Bigelow and James Cameron. Why? Because the two were once married, but now they're divorced and they've been competing all night long against one another. Both of their film's, Bigelow's "The Hurt Locker" and Cameron's "Avatar" have pretty much hogged the award show, but at the moment, Kathryn is in the lead as she just snagged the Academy Award for 'Best Director'.
Other nominees in the category of 'Best Director' included James Cameron ("Avatar"), Quentin Tarantino ("Inglorious Basterds"), Lee Daniels ("Precious") and Jason Reitman ("Up in the Air").
Congratulations to Kathryn on her winning success! That statute is going to look nice on the shelf next to your dishes! Sorry, that was a bad joke.

Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart teamed up to introduce a homage to horror films which are often excluded from prestigious awards, even the Oscars. This special clip is made to serve Oscars producers Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic's mission to celebrate the year in movies.
"Although the most popular genre of film is horror, and although it gave a start of career to a lot of people in this room, somehow it doesn't command to the respect it deserves," Lautner said. "It's been 37 years since horror has its place on the show, when 'The Exorcist' picked up two Academy Awards," Stewart chimed in before clearing her throat.
The montage then plays clips of "Jaws", "Sleepy Hollow", "The Ring", "Scream" and also Lautner and Stewart's co-starring film "Twilight".

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards was kicked off on Sunday night, March 7 with an elaborate musical number headlined by Neil Patrick Harris, and a footage of his performance has come out online. Donning a sequined tuxedo, the 36-year-old actor opened with a question to the attending crowd, "Why am I here?"
The "How I Met Your Mother" star didn't waste much time in answering his question. Performing the musical number which featured references to such movies from "Gone With the Wind" to "Harold & Kumar" to "Twilight", he continued to introduce hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, whom he described as "the biggest pair since Dolly Parton", with "No One Wants to Do It Alone" song.
Taking over from Harris, both Baldwin and Martin made jokes at each other's expense. Baldwin introduced his co-host stating his many talents, but Martin in return simply said, "And this is Alec Baldwin." They then...

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards proved a coming-out party for movies shot and released in 3D.
With two best-picture contenders -- "Avatar" and "Up" -- and nominations and wins in categories from animated feature to production design, the stereoscopic 3D format made inroads this year with mainstream audiences and the Academy.
"I think this is a huge moment in the acceptance of 3D, and it is not relegated to a genre," "Avatar" helmer and Oscar best director nominee James Cameron said last week at the Visual Effects Society Awards. "I think this is a profound watershed moment."
More than 50 years ago, when Hollywood first flirted with 3D, the results received little respect. "Kiss Me Kate" (1953) was nominated for one Oscar: best music scoring. A year later, "Dial M for Murder" was shut out of the Oscar competition, though the DGA did nominate Alfred Hitchcock for its directing prize.

'Precious' takes two early Oscars at 'Academy Awards' and 'Avatar' wins its first Oscar of the night
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards started getting interesting with a bunch of categories that were wide-open. Earlier award winners on the telecast went as thought by industry forecasters. At the halfway mark, the more competitive Oscar categories dialed up some suspense. However, the favorites are still hearing their name called out.
In the Best Adapted Screenplay world, Precious took home its first Oscar thanks to Geoffrey Fletcher's script. Fletcher gave a very heartfelt speech. Up in the Air was the favorite to take this category. Thus far, Up in the Air has not had its named called out as a winner.
It doesn't end their for Precious, as Mo'Nique won the Oscar for Actress in a Supporting Role. Receiving a standing ovation from everyone in the Kodak Theatre, Precious is building momentum in hopes of pulling the upset for Best Picture. Although many considered Mo'Nique as a favorite, many...

The 82nd Annual Academy Awards provides an embarrassment of Hollywood riches this year.

Millions of cable subscribers in New York lost ABC's flagship affiliate early Sunday after a cable operator and the network couldn't reach an agreement on a new contract, according to The Associated Press.
With the signal being dropped, Cablevision Systems Corp. customers will most likely be unable to watch the 82nd Academy Awards, which will be aired on Disney Co.'s ABC network. What time do the 2010 Oscars start tonight? I'm always excited when the Academy Awards roll around, but once I start watching, I find myself incredibly bored because lets face it, most of us could care less about who won 'Best Foreign Film' or 'Best Documentary', right? We want to know which movie will be crowned 'Best Picture' of the year.
In any case, the 82nd Annual Oscars air tonight on ABC. The red carpet special will take place at 8Pm Est/5Pm Pst with the Academy Awards following at 8:30Pm. In addition, if you really want to be prepared for the big ceremony, Barbara Walters has an interview special scheduled for 7Pm Est which will feature Mo'Nique and Sandra Bullock.
The 82nd Annual Academy Awards will be hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. You can check out our predictions in the major categories here!

Those on the Oscar beat writing about it day-in and day-out find ways to invent stories and controversies. Some even suck up to powerful studio heads and jump on the bandwagon of an underdog despite evidence that they are doing nothing but printing the ramblings of a one-man hype machine. Shame on them and may they all lose their Oscar pool to the Grim Reaper.
There are locks though and then there are Locks. And this year looks more than ever to be full of the latter. We probably said the same thing last year too while we see-sawed on Mickey Rourke over Sean Penn or bought into the suggestion that Viola Davis...
