This is certainly not everyone's cup of tea. It is in its very basic form something very political and very italian, executed in its own special way. It is not something you primarily view for the story I wouldn't say. Rather, the charcaters' attemt at creating a story. Everything is highly comical and (most likely) satirical in nature. You watch these lost knights and farmers stumble around the Italian countryside, very passionate about their goals but failing horribly with executing them and getting anything done. It is a joy to watch.
I must warn that I am very much not a political person and I know nothing about the current politics of Italy but I really loved this film. I did have the honour of watching it in cinema with official English subtitles which is intereting to say the least. You see, in the film every character speaks their own made up language in a way. They've taken italian and put a spin on it. One person even speaks more latin than Italian. And the subtitles converyed this beautifully in a weird shakespearian English with uncommon words. They were really allowed to play around with the language.
I enjoyed this film mainly for the good vibes, good humour and the very clever use of language. It was very reminiscent of playing D&D or LARPing (live-action role playing). Something I do a lot myself. Nothing was taken too serious and it was chaos in the most satisfying form. I do not know if people who actually know the politics behind it would enjoy it more or less, but as I said it's not everyone's cup of tea anyways. It is very niche and I enjoyed it for a lot of selfish reasons (LARPing and linguistic nerd). But if that sounds intriguing give it a go.
Bonus: the soundtrack is amazing.
