Screenwriter Laurent Zeitoun got the idea of the film from something that happened in his family, when one of his cousins was in love with someone who didn't treat her well and he told his uncle that they should hire an actor skilled in improvisation to split up the couple.
The piano player is played by Caroline Duris, Romain Duris' sister. She is a talented pianist and already played for her brother in The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005)

After such a success, director Pascal Chaumeil and actor Romain Duris tried to work again together, on a project which was intended as an homage to the French classic Le Magnifique (1973). In this reimagining, an hotel clerk improvises himself as a script writer to get out of a mess, and invents an action movie story, where the characters share many traits to those surrounding him. However, the project never went ahead.
