Exclusive: Netflix has unveiled the cast for its coming-of-age sports drama Rez Ball, set in the world of Native American basketball, which Sydney Freeland (Marvel Studios’ Echo) boarded as director in 2021. Among those set to star are Jessica Matten (Dark Winds), Julia Jones (The Mandalorian), Amber Midthunder (Prey), Kiowa Gordon (Dark Winds), Dallas Goldtooth (Reservation Dogs), Cody Lightning (Echo), Ernest Tsosie (Better Call Saul) and Kauchani Bratt.

Seven European film festivals have joined forces to launch an alliance called ’Smart7’.

Debut features by Austėja Urbaitė, Telmo Churro and Sebastian Mihailescu are among seven films selected by the ‘Smart7’ network of seven European film festivals for the first edition of its competitive section of films by emerging filmmakers.

The seven titles will be first shown together at the forthcoming Vilnius Iff (March 16-26), before being screened at IndieLisboa (April 27-May 7), Filmmadrid (June 6-11), Transilvania (June 9-18), New Horizons (July 21-31), Reykjavik (September 28 - October 8) and Thessaloniki (November).

A jury of university students from each country will decide on the winner of the €5,000 prize.

A direct descendant of Cuthbert Grant, the first rebel Metis leader famously known for the Battle of the Seven Oaks in Canada, Matten is one of the founding members of The Indigenous Film Academy, the first and only Indigenous Film and stunt combat academy in North America in partnership with Old Sun College out of Siksika Nation, part of the Blackfoot Confederacy.

The academy supports emerging and aspiring First Nations, Metis, and Inuit artists so they can effectively and successfully gain expertise and experience to establish the foundations of a professional film career.

Currently, Matten can be seen in AMC’s Dark Winds in the role of Bernadette Manuelito, a Navajo police Sargeant, opposite Zahn McClarnon and Kiowa Gordon. The series, produced by Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, and Graham Roland, was renewed for a second season set to premiere in 2023.

After a six month search, “Wheel of Fortune” has found a new executive producer in Bellamie Blackstone, who takes the helm of the show as it heads into its 40th anniversary season.

Blackstone’s appointment also closes the book on the Mike Richards era of “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy.”

A former executive producer of “The Price is Right,” Richards joined both Sony Pictures Entertainment game shows as executive producer in 2020. Last year, he was given the additional job as host of “Jeopardy.” But he parted ways entirely with Sony in August 2021 — only one week into the hosting gig — after reports surfaced about old podcasts in which he made sophomoric and disparaging remarks about Jews and women. Richards was replaced in the short term on “Jeopardy” by alternating hosts Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings.

Founded by Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin, The Home Edit offers “full service organizing” in Washington, D.C., Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, NYC, Nashville, Orange County, Salt Lake City and San Francisco, as well as “travel and DIY services” globally. Exclusive: Nathaniel Arcand (Cold Pursuit) has been cast opposite Julian McMahon, Alana de la Garza, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Roxy Sternberg and Kellan Lutz in FBI: Most Wanted, the planted spinoff of Dick Wolf’s freshman CBS drama series FBI. The spinoff has a series commitment, making an episodic pickup for next season likely.

As the name suggests, FBI: Most Wanted centers on the division of the FBI tasked with tracking and capturing the notorious criminals on its Most Wanted list.

Arcand will play Agent Clinton Skye, Mohawk Nation, Jess’ brother-in-law, a marksman with a law degree.

The planted spinoff is written by Wolf and one of his trusted writer-producers, Law & Order alum Rene Balcer, and will be directed by another Law & Order veteran, Fred Berner, who also has been directing episodes of Wolf’s Chicago dramas on NBC.
