Monster High 2 has become a global Netflix hit. The 2023 title is a sequel to the live-action horror-comedy musical movie about a high school for monsters, adapting the toy line of the same name. The movie originally premiered on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ and stars Miia Harris, Ceci Balagot, Nayah Damasen, The Other Two's Case Walker, and Love, Victor star Ana Ortiz. When it premiered on the platform, it didn't register on the Nielsen streaming chart and indeed was viewed less than the then 10-year-old Martin Scorsese movie The Wolf of Wall Street, which was also streaming on Paramount+.
Netflix has now calculated their global Top 10 most-watched English-language movies for the week of October 7 through October 13. Even though it is not available on the streamer in the United States, Monster High 2 landed at No. 8 on the chart with 4.1 million viewers amassing a total of 6.5 million viewing hours. The movie...

Pyper Braun as Alice in ‘Imaginary’ (Photo Credit: Parrish Lewis / Lionsgate)
At first glance, it would seem as if Blumhouse’s new horror movie Imaginary is just another killer doll movie along the lines of Child’s Play or Annabelle. And after a watch, that’s pretty much what it is. But with a few twists.
Imaginary is about a children’s book author/illustrator named Jessica (DeWanda Wise from Jurassic World Dominion) who moves into her childhood home with her husband, Max (The Walking Dead’s Tom Payne), and his two girls, the teenaged Taylor (Monarch’s Taegen Burns) and the younger Alice (Desperation Road’s Pyper Braun). Lonely in her new place, Alice immediately makes an imaginary friend named Chauncey who takes the form of a cute little teddy bear. But there’s more to Chauncey than meets the eye – and he has history with Jessica.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel and Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked both made it into the Global Top 10 on Netflix, showcasing an unexpected comeback for the franchise. Along with the Chipmunks sequels, three other animated films also appeared in the Netflix charts, highlighting a dominance of animated content. It is possible that Netflix's algorithm is linking these animated franchises, as viewers who watched one film were recommended others on the list, creating a trend in multiple countries.
Two of the Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel movies squeak their way into the Netflix charts. Opening with 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks, the franchise is based on the animated band of chipmunks that first appeared in the TV series The Alvin Show in the 1960s. The first movie was followed up by three sequel films: Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip.

Lilah Fitzgerald has signed on to join AMC’s “Lucky Hank” in a guest role.
Formerly titled “Straight Man,” the eight-episode dramedy follows William Henry “Hank” Devereaux Jr. (Bob Odenkirk), an unlikely chairman in a badly underfunded college in the Pennsylvania rust belt. Just as Hank’s career and home life begins to unravel, his wife Lily (Mirielle Enos) also decides to take a look at some of her past choices that led to her current reality. Based on the novel by Richard Russo, the series is told in first person from Hank’s point of view.

Other previously announced cast members include Alvina August, Sara Amini, Diedrich Bader, Suzanne Cryer, Olivia Scott Welch, Arthur Keng and Cedric Yarbrough.

Welcome to Creators on the Rise, where—in partnership with global creator company Jellysmack—we find and profile breakout creators who are in the midst of extraordinary growth.
As a kid, Joshua David McKenney wasn’t allowed to play with dolls.
His conservative household wasn’t big on the idea of boys embracing anything feminine in any form–which was a big letdown for McKenney, who was besotted with basically everything traditionally associated with femininity. He loved dresses and makeup, and though he wasn’t allowed to try either of them or have dolls, he was allowed to draw “whatever I wanted,” he explains.
By the time he was an adult and could do what he liked, he’d decided to take his passion to Parsons School of Design. He enrolled for fashion design, then switched to photography, then decided he’d rather be a full-time illustrator. While working as an illustrator,...

Nickelodeon's Monster High is welcoming Ghoulia Yelps (played by the fabulous Felicia Day) to their ranks as of episode 7, “Nightmare Nightmore.” First launched by Mattel in 2010, the franchise began by introducing characters inspired by mythical creatures who all attend a special school together. The animated reboot series began in October and is helmed by Shea Fontana, who crafted the 2018 reboot of Polly Pocket.
Monster High follows protagonists Frankie Stein, Draculaura, and Clawdeen Wolf as they juggle their high school activities with their higher monster callings. As the daughters of Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Werewolf, they each have the burden of familial legacy to live up to while at the same time trying to shine as individuals. In the next episode, airing December 19, Draculaura hopes to host the perfect holiday party and struggles with her disappointment when things don't go according to plan, all while Day's Ghoulia enters the monster spotlight.

"The Addams Family" is one of those rare franchises with seemingly timeless appeal — from the quirky satirical comics by Charles Addams, to the much-loved (and still hilarious) 1964 sitcom, to the '90s feature films "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values." Heck, even today's kiddos know the characters well, thanks to the less-than-stellar 2019 "The Addams Family" animated reboot. Given that, Netflix's "Wednesday" makes sense: It's not a terrible idea for Netflix to produce a teen drama centered on the titular "child of woe," and with acclaimed spooky visionary Tim Burton at the helm, what could go wrong?
As it turns out, a lot.
Jenna Ortega stars as Wednesday Addams, a teenage girl who — as we are repeatedly reminded — is "not like other girls" (my least favorite teen-drama/romance trope). Every episode hammers home just how exceptional she is, from repeat demonstrations of her superiority to scenes of her peers obsessing over her.

Ramsey Naito has been running Nickelodeon Animation since 2017, and in that time the network’s programming has exploded with a raft of both homegrown series and adaptations of external IP. “Star Trek,” “SpongeBob,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Blue’s Clues,” “Dora the Explorer,” “Rugrats”… if that seems like too much for one network to handle, well, it no longer has to.
Last fall, Naito added running Paramount Animation to her docket, and since then, the scope of potential programming across the corporate-partnered Nickelodeon networks, Paramount+ and Paramount theatrical has given the network increased space to expand. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” — the Seth Rogen-produced feature spun off from Nick’s revamped “Turtles” animated series — is due out next summer. Nickelodeon feature films from “Paw Patrol,” “Blue’s Clues” and “Baby Shark” are also on the horizon, as well as new features from Paramount properties “Transformers” and “Smurfs.” For Naito, this glut of programming presents opportunities.

Stars: Vinne Jones, James Clayton, Lina Lecompte, Danny Mac | Written by Cooper Bibaud, Danny Mac | Directed by James Clayton
I’m not quite sure which is the least imaginative, calling an action film Death Pursuit or casting Vinne Jones as a psychotically violent criminal. James Clayton went with both in his directorial debut and that should have sent up more red flags than a text message from an ex.
Death Pursuit opens in a scrapyard as some goons are executing what I presume are rival goons. While they’re doing that The Thief slips in and helps himself to stacks of cash that are just sitting there unguarded. His exit is a little more complicated and he ends up fleeing in a car that has Mia the pregnant wife of Temple (Vinnie Jones) the man he just ripped off, hidden in the trunk.
