OpinionKannada cinema has produced an array of movies depicting conditions ranging from psychosis to personality disorders, yet the representation has only added to the stigma. Sanjana DeshpandeScreengrabEver since the making of the first Kannada film Sati Sulochana in 1934, Sandalwood has come a long way with recent hits like Kgf receiving global recognition. While attempts have been made to explore themes like mental health, the films usually leave the audiences disappointed with their caricature-like portrayal of the same. Farhan Akhtar started his acting career in 2008 [Rock On], followed it up with Luck By Chance in 2009, experimented with Karthik Calling Karthik [2010] and then hit a high with Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara [2011]. Post that, he delivered a major hit with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag [2013].
Another interesting factor about Farhan and his Bollywood career is the fact that in his nine films that have released in last eight years, he has always seen a new leading lady opposite him. This is what makes Rock On 2 special since this time around, he is paired with a new leading lady, Shraddha Kapoor.

Prediction came true to the T as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag indeed had an average occupancy of 60% by the time Friday came to a close. It was Paid Previews for the ‘aam junta’ that gave a good indication of what would unfold in days to come as 1.5 crores came in from the evening/night shows on Thursday itself. Soon after, the word of mouth started spreading around this Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra film being a quality product. Friday footfalls did the rest and by the time the day came to a close, it was a given that the film had done well.
This was evidenced from the fact that Saturday and Sunday saw further escalation, hence resulting in the first weekend collections in an excess of 31 crores. With this, in one stroke, Farhan Akhtar has managed his biggest solo success till date. Also, in the process the film has comfortably surpassed the...

Farhan Akhtar has managed to build a good branding around himself. With class attached to his name, there is a loyal urban audience which is expected to step in for ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’. The film arrives three years after his last solo release ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’ which was a psychological affair and didn’t really do well. However in the years gone by he has been a part of a successful ‘Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara’ as an actor and ‘Don 2′ as a director that has helped him cover further distance from the visibility perspective.
All of this means that at least in the multiplexes, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ should see a good opening for itself and fetch footfalls in 50%-60% range. In fact the kind of content that the film promises, it even carries potential to penetrate the single screen belt, courtesy the local flavour as well as the positive spirit that the narrative promises.

Mumbai, Nov 30: "Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom," American musician Charlie Parker once said. But that holds no meaning when you compose for films, feels Indian American musician Karsh Kale, the man behind the music for films like "Pyaar Impossible", "Karthik Calling Karthik" and "Chutney Popcorn".
A musician or a band loses out on identity while composing music for movies, he says.
"I think any time you are making music for a film, you are not making your own music any more. You are making music, which a director or a producer is asking you to make. Even if you put your stamp on it, it is someone.

'Don 2' (2011)
Starring Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta, Kunal Kapoor, Boman Irani, Om Puri
Remakes and sequels are always hard to pull off well. Director/writer Farhan Akhtar did so with aplomb with the remake 'Don: The Chase Begins Again' (2006) and failed miserably with its sequel, 'Don 2.' The remake starred Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, who returned for the sequel, but their original pop is not reprised.
Akhtar, who helmed and penned the acclaimed 'Dil Chahta Hai' (2001) and 'Lakshya' (2004), took the 1978 cult classic 'Don' and rivaled the Bond franchise with his result. Akhtar directed no films between the first 'Don' and the second, but branched out into acting—and an excellent actor he is—with 'Rock On!!' (2008), 'Luck By Chance' (2009), 'Karthik Calling Karthik' (2010), and 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' (2011). And perhaps acting is where his passion now lies,...

'Karthik Calling Karthik' (2010)
Starring Farhan Akhtar, Deepika Padukone
A man who gets phone calls from himself telling him how to live his life—crazy, or is he? That's the mystery central to this psychological thriller—if you can call it that, because unlike the lead character, the film is unquestionably schizophrenic. As a thriller, it fails, because instead of taut, it's just stretched. The suspense is sapped by romance that dominates to such an extent that the film becomes mostly a love story—and a dull one. At times, it seems like the movie is trying to be a realistic study of a man who is the victim of bullying and who also may be mentally ill—which isn't a thrilling tack and a real downer where romance is concerned.
The title character is, however, ironically consistent—and well-portrayed by Farhan Akhtar. The film is a rare miss...

In 'Soundtrack' they have collaborated with musician and composer Karsh Kale. However, they maintained that their crossover in Bollywood doesn't mean that they have.

Deepika Padukone exploded on the scene in 2007 with her debut in 'Om Shanti Om,' playing opposite Shahrukh Khan. She then appeared in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' (2008) with Ranbir Kapoor (with whom she was once romantically involved, and his initials are still tattooed on her neck), the bomb 'Chandni Chowk to China' (2009) opposite Akshay Kumar, and the hit 'Love Aaj Kal' (2009) alongside Saif Ali Khan. She starred in five films in 2010—'Karthik Calling Karthik,' 'Housefull,' 'Lafangey Parindey,' 'Break Ke Baad,' 'Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey'—with mixed results. She was born in Denmark to Indian parents. Her father is a famous badminton player, and in her teens, Deepika was a tough competitor in the sport, which she gave up for a career in modeling and acting.

Director Sabir Khan has cast Deepika Padukone opposite Shahid Kapoor in Heer And Ranjha, a contemporary take on the old Heer-Ranjha legend. The only reservation was the difference in the lead pair's height. Dippy is even taller than Sonam Kapoor, who is Shahid's co-star in Mausam. It is a well-known fact that Dippy is very conscious of her heroes' height. Before the shooting of Karthik Calling Karthik, Farhan Akhtar had to actually stand next to her, and show her that he can match her height. The question that arose was, would Sk and Dp look well-matched on screen?Sabir succeeded in convincing the actress that she and Shaks would look fine together. He says, "I don't think it really makes a difference if the leading lady is taller than the hero.Any heroine, no matter how tall, is keen to work with Aamir Khan. Dippy has agreed to do the film.

Click above for more event stills This is turning out to be an unimaginably busy year ahead for Deepika Padukone. She started off 2010 with Karthik Calling Karthik. Later she was seen in Housefull and it wasn't too while ago when she enacted the role of a blind girl in Lafangey Parindey. Well, picture abhi baaki hai, literally so, as before the year ends, she would also be seen in Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey. While this wasn't strenuous enough, there is more. Both her new releases would be literally arriving back to back. While Ashutosh Gowariker had announced 3rd December as the release date for his Abhishek Bachchan starrer Khelein Hum…. many months ago, Kunal Kohli's Break Ke Baad (with Imran Khan in lead) too joined the race by declaring 26th November as the D-day. "This means double the stress for Deepika", comments an industry veteran,...
