Police investigate when a best-selling mystery author who was experiencing writer's block is found dead, posed in a position made famous in her first two books.
The detective's brother is hired as a forensic specialist; the dead woman's husband becomes a prime suspect. Flashbacks show the murdered author may have gotten her third book from a website even though she had yet to complete writing it.
The facts about authoress Yongli's death are revealed as her husband tries to convince the police and his sister-in-law about the web site where books he wrote were bought by his wife.
Eight years after her son's death, a woman in the police office buys future eye drops allowing her to see her dead son. Detectives look for proof that the book they have is really from the future as Yongli's husband (and killer) claims.
Meizhen keeps using the eye-drops and seeing her dead son grow up. The police are unable to locate Futmalls.com and Yongli's sister theorizes about parallel universes.
As the police look for Futmalls two more items are purchased: an inflatable woman by a socially awkward nerd and scar removal creme by Nianjun, the police detective's fiancee. Meanwhile Internet bloggers are being kidnapped.
Another Internet live-streamer is kidnapped and Yongxin uses herself as bait to bring the kidnapper out in the open. Nianjun receives a scare when the futuristic scar creme she used makes her face temporarily much worse.
Xuzhen's obsession with work leads him to ignore signs that his fiancee Nianjun is sick. An arrest is made in the kidnappings but there's doubt the right person is in custody.
