Toledo, Spain — Adding to its bullish line-up of primetime dramas, Spain’s Atresmedia TV is set to adapt “Angela Black,” its second ITV drama makeover from “The Missing” creators, Harry and Jack Williams, after the Spanish commercial broadcaster’s reversion of “Liar.”

Currently casting and set to go into production this fall in Bizkaia’s Bilbao, “Angela,” as the Spanish redo is known, is produced by Buendía Estudios Vizcaya with the participation of Atresmedia TV.

An original idea of the Williams’ Two Brothers Pictures, “Angela Black’s” international distribution is handled by All3Media International.

Buendía Estudios is behind “Veneno,” “Cardo” and “The Cook of Castamar.” “Angela” is directed by Norberto López Amado, who has helmed episodes on some of the biggest hits on Spanish TV in the last 10 years, such as “The Time in Between” and “El Príncipe” as well as two episodes of “Liar.”

Warner Bros. Discovery Appoints Emea Streaming Marketing Boss

Warner Bros. Discovery has appointed a marketing boss for streaming in Emea. Rebecca Rørmark will oversee the marketing of streamers discovery+ and HBO Max and the soon-to-launch HBO Max Discovery combined SVoD, which rolls out in the U.S. and LatAm later this year and Europe next year. The Oslo-based exec will lead the evolution of the streaming brands, growth of the subscriber base and marketing preparations for the launch. She has been with Wbd (formerly Discovery) for nearly a decade, running marketing for Nordic streamer Dplay since 2015 and overseeing that platform’s recent discovery+ rebrand. Past brands she has worked with include Netflix, Fox, National Geographic, Nickelodeon and MTV. “Consumers are craving great content, ease and consolidation and I believe we will deliver what they are looking for with our enhanced product,” said Rørmark.

“Downton Abbey” actress Joanne Froggatt plays a woman caught up in a twisted psychological web in her new Spectrum Original series “Angela Black,” debuting Monday.

The six-part series, written and produced by Harry and Jack Williams, begins as the story of an abused woman as she starts to find the strength to plot an escape from her husband, Olivier (“Game of Thrones” alum Michiel Huisman). It is also, though, a psychological thriller that involves surprising twists and turns that begin when Angela meets Ed (Samuel Adewunmi), a private investigator who shows up at her door after a brief meeting at a pub, to tell Angela her husband isn’t who she thinks he is. And things only get more complicated from there.

In her entertaining Mipcom fresh content presentation on Tuesday, Virginia Mouseler, CEO and co-founder of the Geneva-based TV think tank The Wit, put the focus on hit new shows powered by a cast of angry women.

“‘The Squid Game’ inspired our theme for today, which is fiction against domination,” she said. “In our selection, it will be mostly women against the domination of men. The domination of the system.”

Mouseler’s selection of fresh TV began with the BBC’s crime thriller “Vigil,” which revolves around a lesbian cop sent to investigate a murder on a submarine. “The deeper you go, the darker it gets,” runs the tag line.

“What I thought was interesting was the evolution of the female cop character,” she said. “She’s a lesbian and she’s sent to a men’s world and has to deal with her own vulnerability.”

Trafalgar Releasing are set to adapt London’s V&a museum’s blockbuster Alice in Wonderland exhibition for theatrical release. “Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser,” which explores the cultural impact of Lewis Carroll’s iconic protagonist on figures from Salvador Dali to Tim Burton, is to be made into a “special cinema event,” the museum has revealed, with a U.K. release date set for Oct. 14. International screenings are set to follow.

Spectrum Originals and BET have partnered on a mystery drama set in the world of women’s basketball starring Rose Rollins.

“Long Slow Exhale” follows J.C. Abernathy (Rollins), the head coach of a competitive women’s college basketball team who finds herself in the middle of a career-shattering sexual abuse scandal. Sorting through the secrets to unravel the truth, she is forced to make decisions that will affect her and those that depend on her.

After a nine-month exclusive run for Spectrum, the 12-episode series will air with a second window on BET. Per Paramount Television Studios President Nicole Clemens, the show will explore various issues “at the forefront of our culture, told in the high-stakes, adrenaline-filled arena of elite women’s college basketball.”

Charter Communications’ Ott service has picked up Australian drama “Eden,” with the aim of debuting the eight-episode series on Spectrum on Demand in 2021.

“Eden” hails a from “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries” creators Fiona Eagger and Deb Cox, as well as “Skins” co-creator Bryan Elsley and Vanessa Gazy. It follows the disappearance of a girl in Byron Bay, an Australian town that seems to be a paradise. Each episode is told from a different character’s perspective, and the mystery unfolds through multiple lenses as the secrets that bind this supposed nirvana are exposed.
