A backyard swimming pool tells part of the story in Colombian American writer-director Alessandra Lacorazza Samudio’s “In the Summers.” As it goes from refreshing site of joyful congregation to an ignored eyesore in mounting disrepair, the recreational amenity establishes itself as a potently grave motif for the passage of time in this unsentimental, and yet immensely affecting debut feature about a complicated parent-children relationship. Told in four elliptical segments, it spans roughly two decades.

Disney+ has been around for awhile now so you should know the deal with these monthly new releases. Sometimes a given month on Disney+ is highlighted by a new Marvel show. Other times it’s a Star Wars show. With its list of new offerings for August 2022, however, Disney+ is pulling off the rare content eclipse: Marvel and Star Wars.
The biggest new arrival this month on Disney+ is undoubtedly She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Aug. 17. Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) stars as Jennifer Walters, a normal human attorney who is somehow embiggified by her cousin Bruce Banner. Will this be the mythical Marvel TV offering that actually offers a non-serialized case-of-the-week format? Guess we’ll find out soon!

After delaying its initial release, Paramount Pictures announced that the live-action “Clifford the Big Red Dog” will open both in theaters and on Paramount Plus on Nov. 10.
Based on the children’s book series written by Norman Bridwell, the film will follow middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) who meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) and is given a little, red puppy only to wake up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure for audiences to behold.
The film was originally set to release on Sept. 17 but was pushed back due to concerns surrounding the delta variant like several other films were this past year, including Tom Cruise’s latest installment of “Top Gun.” Now premiering in both theaters and on Paramount’s streaming service,...

Bobcat Goldthwait enjoyed a long friendship with Robin Williams since they met at a comedy club kitchen in the 1980s up until Williams’ death in 2014. But Goldthwait has no current plans to watch HBO’s upcoming documentary about Williams’ life and career.
“I probably won’t watch the movie,” Goldthwait told Variety at Wednesday’s premiere of his new “Misfits & Monsters” anthology series. “Not out of protest — I just miss my friend, and I think it would be hard.”
The documentary, “Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind,” features interviews with some of Williams’ closest friends and colleagues, including his longtime comedy partner Billy Crystal and his “Mork & Mindy” co-star Pam Dawber. But when the filmmakers asked Goldthwait to participate, he declined.
“I wish them all the luck on the movie,” Goldthwait said. “I kind of stayed away. Our relationship is very personal.”

Old dogs and new tricks, that’s me, as I’ve never seen a Sergio Martino film until now. If Torso is to be my first, so be it; a fun giallo with copious amounts of strictly gratuitous nudity is nothing to scoff at, and UK boutique label Shameless Films lovingly stabs their way onto your video shelf.
I certainly know of Martino’s work; as I delve deeper into Italian horror I hear of All the Colors of the Dark and Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (both from ’72), mostly due to the vibrant titles and his even more vibrant leading lady, Edwige Fenech, whose stunning visage graces my eyeballs on a regular basis. (Gratzi, Sarah.) But beyond that, I really knew little before taking my first trip into Martinoville. And thanks to Shameless, I plan to pop in more often.

Life is filled with the unexpected.
You never know what might happen next, and if you’re lucky, you just might like it.
Such as when Brennan asked Booth to get a vasectomy on Bones Season 12 Episode 3.
These two have the most interesting conversations in the car.
Booth, why are you covering yourself? I'm not going to perform the procedure myself, in a car.

Booth’s reaction was classic. Sex without the worry of having children might sound great, but the thought of what it takes to make that happen had him cowering in his car seat.
I was a little surprised that Angela equated his reaction to being Catholic. Isn't the Catholic church against any form of birth control? I assume Booth and Brennan are using something or...

This episode of Bones, titled "The Final Chapter: The New Tricks in the Old Dogs," humorously rounds out the first quarter of the final season. Each Bones couple discusses how they feel about having more babies, resulting in Brennan making an uncomfortable demand on her squeamish mate. While these three couples discuss sex as a means of procreation, the case highlights an entirely different outlook on sex as it centers on the very active and intimate romantic relationship of two octogenarians in a retirement community.
As the case is all about a retirement home community, it brings several delightful and distinguished guest stars to the small screen. Those of us who have been around for a handful of decades will appreciate the appearance of the legendary seven-time Emmy Award-winning Ed Asner, who is known best for his characterization of Lou Grant, Mary Richards' acerbic news director, on The Mary Tyler Moore Show...

11.10 The Devil In The Details
‘The Road So Far’ is always the best way to kick off a return to Supernatural, not only bringing us up to speed with important events, but also giving us a kickass soundtrack. The episode kicks off with Sam stuck in the Cage with Lucifer, joyfully taking the younger Winchester through a tour of memories in order to make his point. Dean, meanwhile, is recovering from the attempt to kill Amara by the angels when he finds out what has happened to his brother. Castiel tries to ascertain whether Amara survived and Crowley and Rowena (revealed to have been working with Lucifer… obviously) enter a begrudging alliance in the hope that Lucifer will know what to do in order to defeat the Darkness,...

Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel have plenty in common: endless improv chops, an appreciation for terrible cinema (Scheer hosts the podcast "How Did This Get Made?" about lame movies; Huebel hosts the La Upright Citizens Brigade revue "The Shit Show" where guests discuss their worst performances and gigs), and now, the experience of performing together on a giant glass bus. Their new special "Crash Test" sees the comics entertaining an audience on a large party bus as it travels through Los Angeles. On their journey, they meet fellow comics Aziz Ansari, Andy Daly, Rob Corddry, Aubrey Plaza, Natasha Leggero, Jack McBrayer, Thomas Lennon, Ian Karmel, and more. It was August 11, 2014. The theater was full with an advance screening of The Giver starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. The red carpet event was live-streamed prior to the showing as stars from the film flooded in and entered the New York City party while we, in Knoxville, Tenn., gazed at the screen.
I checked my phone for the time and came across a message on the screen.
“Actor Robin Williams found dead at his home. He was 63.”
A friend put it best when he said that hearing the news of Williams’s passing surprised him with grief.
It did the same for me.
Now, to this point, Robin Williams was just another face (or voice) on the screen to me. An actor who had given life to Genie in Aladdin, the main character of Flubber, and was Mrs. Doubtfire. Nothing of note, but fun most of the time.

John Travolta has had a bit of a rough decade. In the past ten years, he starred in Wild Hogs, Old Dogs, From Paris With Love (which was one of the worst action movies of the past two decades), and the forgettable remake The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. But Quentin Tarantino resurrected his career once before by giving him a lead role in Pulp Fiction, and it seems Travolta is looking to get back on top yet again. The Wrap reports that he's in talks to join I Am Wrath, an action film previously set to star his Face/Off co-star Nicolas Cage.
I Am Wrath follows "a man out for vigilante justice after a group of corrupt cops are unable to catch his wife’s killer." That's about as generic as it gets, so it's tough for me to really get excited about this. It seems like...

The billion-dollar franchise is back in action and moving forward on a new Alvin and the Chipmunks movie. We.ll admit, the first film wasn.t too shabby, but between The Squeakquel and Chip-Wrecked the quality hasn.t quite been five stars. So why another film? Well, believe it or not, the franchise has already banked over $1 billion, and a new film is pretty much a guarantee for more money flow. While plot details have not been divulged, the title, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip sounds like the band is going on tour. The Hollywood Reporter announced the director that has signed on for the project. Walt Becker known for Van Wilder: Party Liaison, Wild Hogs, and the Disney film with John Travolta and Robin Williams, Old Dogs, has signed on to direct the fourth film. He.ll pair with screenwriters Adam Sztykiel (Due Date) and Randi Mayem Singer...

John Travolta is as fascinating and complex a member of the Hollywood fraternity as you could wish for. Iconic performer, experienced pilot, vocal Scientologist and mangler of pronunciation of Idina Menzel.
He has managed to appear in not just some of the best known, but also some of the best-full-stop films of the past forty years – Saturday Night Fever, Carrie, Grease, Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Face/Off, The Thin Red Line, Hairspray and the upcoming Gummy Bear The Movie – whatever one might think of the consistency of his output (and there have been some horrendous misfires), it is hard to imagine too many actors playing Danny Zuko, Vincent Vega, Castor Troy, Sean Archer, Chili Palmer and Edna Turnblad with equal conviction.
After the temporary resuscitation of Look Who’s Talking turned out to be a false dawn, Tarantino did Travolta a favour of inestimable proportions by casting him in Pulp Fiction,...

Yesterday we ran a story on some of Robin Williams’ most under appreciated performances. But as the remembrances keep rolling in and as new, gruesome details about his suicide become apparent, it became clear that Williams didn’t just have depth in his filmography; he was an actor and performer who displayed worlds of expression and moved so many in remarkable and distinct ways.
Rather than ask our staff to rattle off more of their favorites, we asked them to recall Williams’ personality and the legacy his work left on their lives. We’re looking at each side of his many faces as a comedian, a movie star, a voice actor and a true character, offering our final goodbye to a man who gave us so much.

The actor could steal the show in mainstream movies, but it was the crazy, manic riffs and improvisations of his early standup days that made him a unique talent
• Robin Williams obituary
• Peter Bradshaw: 'A remarkable performer, a brutal shock'
There were two dividing impulses in Robin Williams's performances that could, roughly, be called his American and British sides. On the American side, there was the slushy tendency towards sentimentality, for which he became increasingly known, which, at its best, resulted in Dead Poets Society, The Birdcage and Mrs Doubtfire, and, at its worst, became Patch Adams and Old Dogs. Hollywood has long had a tendency to adopt the finest and most interesting comedians and then determinedly blunt the hard edges that make them interesting. Along with Richard Pryor, Williams was the most obvious example of that.

I didn’t see Robin Williams‘ attempt at a new sitcom, CBS’ The Crazy Ones. I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to think that the great Robin was, at only 62, already making the trip back to weekly TV half-hours after such a stellar, Oscar-winning career in films and such a bright, unhinged light on comedy stages for all of his career. It’s just too constricting for this kind of talent. It’s even sadder to think the show got cancelled after one season, a failure that must have been hard to take. No, my most recent memories of Robin Williams are on the big screen, where he seemed to be heading for a place of renewal, not only as the funnyman everyone knew, but really a fine dramatic actor. In this year’s The Face Of Love he played a supporting role as a man heartbreakingly...

Robin Williams and Mila Kunis in The Angriest Man in Brooklyn
Robin Williams (Old Dogs) has a bad day—a helluva bad day—in the comedy drama The Angriest Man In Brooklyn.
Williams plays overly bitter man Henry Altmann, whose anger really kicks into gear when he learns from a doctor (Mila Kunis, Ted) that he has a brain aneurysm and has only 90 minutes to live. This news kicks the curmudgeonly Altman into motion, and he sets out to reconcile with his wife, brother and friends in the short time he believes he has left.
Co-starring Peter Dinklage (TV’s Game of Thrones) and Melissa Leo (Flight) and directed by Phil Alden Robinson (who hasn’t helmed a film since 2002’s The Sum of All Fears), the R-rated Angriest Man In Brooklyn opened to lot of negative reviews upon it limited theatrical rollout in May.

One of our favorite web series over the last few years has been Old Dogs & New Tricks, which features the “Gay Men Of A Certain Age” Brad, Muscles, Ross, and Nathan, as they make their journey through the dating world of West Hollywood.
We had the pleasure of presenting Seasons One & Two, and while we eagerly await what Season Three has to offer, here’s something to tide us over. “WeHo Horror Story” takes place two months after the Season Two finale … on Halloween.

This review contains spoilers.
4.2 That Time Of The Month
This week on Being Human USA...Twist.
We open where we left off last week: Suzanna, on the porch in front of a stunned Aidan. He stares at her, taking in that this is really happening. It says so much about Aidan's messed-up life that, faced with this seemingly improbable event, the first words out of his mouth are not, "How? Why?" Instead, he invites her in because Aidan Waite has manners thank you very much and when one's wife comes back from the dead one does not allow a lady to stand outside in the hot sun. That would be rude. But then the "how" gets answered for him: Suzanna can't come in because she's a vampire. And if you even have to wonder...

4.1 Old Dogs, New Tricks
Being Human (Us) is finally back and hitting the ground running. It's been three months since the last episode and Josh is still a wolf...mostly.
First things first: Aidan and Nora are friends again! After their fall out last season, it made me really happy to see the two people who care about Josh the most come together to take care of him in his, uh, "time of need." That time of need happens to be every day of the month except the full moon — which is the only time he's human. He rehumanizes thirty minutes before Nora wolfs out, which means they really only have half an hour per month to be together. Happy honeymoon, right?

John Travolta's little girl is all grown up!
Ella Bleu Travolta joined her famous father as he attended the premiere of his new movie "Killing Season," also featuring Robert De Niro, last Thursday night in NYC.
The 13-year-old looked beautiful (and like a true New Yorker) as she opted for an all-black ensemble and a genuine, bashful smile. We think she looks like a spitting image of her A-list father, too!
A budding actress herself, Ella Bleu's last role was in the 2009 movie "Old Dogs," which starred her parents and Robin Williams. You will also find her next in the film "Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father," due to come out in 2014.

Even if you forget any of the terrible films they've made over the course of the last decade, you have to admit that the thought of seeing Robert De Niro and John Travolta onscreen together is still a tiny bit exciting. Imagine: the raw ferocity of Travis Bickle combined with the lithe athleticism of Tony Manero. The unflappable cool of Vincent Vega combined with the ungoverned id of Jake Lamotta. The bloke from The Big Wedding combined with the guy from Old Dogs. Together. At last.
And now it's happening. De Niro and Travolta will soon appear together in a thriller called Killing Season. Imagine the scene between De Niro and Pacino in Heat,...
