Peter Krause would later publicly voice his displeasure that the tone of the show was changed during the editing process, and he vowed to never work at ABC again.
Several actors are replaced after the pilot. E.g. Elle Fanning (as Kiki George) is replaced by Chloë Grace Moretz from episode two, and Brooke Smith (as Andrea Smithson) is replaced by Sheryl Lee, when the character reappears in episode 7.
In 2020, Candis Cayne appeared in the documentary "Disclosure: Trans Lives on Screen," in which she discussed her run on this show playing the character of Carmelita. Although Cayne gave the show credit for being one of the first network series to cast a transgender performer to play a transgender person in a regular role, she also admitted that when she first watched the pilot, she was crestfallen to discover that her voice had been artificially lowered during post-production to make Carmelita seem more stereotypically "masculine."
After ABC canceled the show at the end of 2008, the last four episodes of the 2nd season remained unaired until Spanish TV-channel Antena 3 aired them in March 2009. This means, the last episodes of the show had their world premiere on Spanish television and were not aired in the US until the Summer of 2009.
Sheryl Lee (Andrea) and Chloë Grace Moretz (Kiki) subsequently played mother and daughter in Texas Killing Fields (2011).
