Lady Gaga gets emotional while discussing the creation and success of “Die With a Smile” — her hit collaboration with Bruno Mars — in this bonus clip from Gaga’s recent episode of Rolling Stone’s “The Breakdown.”
“I’m just so grateful to have made ‘Die With a Smile’ with Bruno,” Gaga says of the song, which was released in August. “He is the most wonderful artist. He is so kind and generous. One of my favorite things about working with him on this song was, he wanted me to be myself.

Lady Gaga’s new song “Disease” is finally here in all its maximalist pop glory.
The track is driven by a cavernous synth line that swells and slams against industrial drums before erupting into a classic Gaga shout-along chorus: “I could play the doctor, I can cure your disease/If you were a sinner, I could make you believe/Lay you down like one, two, three/Eyes roll back in ecstasy/I can smell your sickness, I can cure your/Cure your disease.”

Lady Gaga continued to ramp up the excitement for her new single “Disease” with an unsettling short clip that appeared to offer a first look at the song’s music video.
The 11-second video, which Gaga posted on social media, comprises just one shot from the inside of a car as it pursues a young woman who is sprinting down a suburban street. There’s no clear look at the driver, only a strange silhouette that appears to show the wide brim of a hat and perhaps a piece of...

Lady Gaga has previewed a new song from her forthcoming LP, Harlequin, out Sept. 27. The album is a companion piece to her film Joker: Folie à Deux, a musical of sorts in which the singer plays Harley Quinn.
Gaga shared a clip of the dramatic tune on Instagram along with a video shot in the Louvre museum in Paris, where her character defaces the Mona Lisa with red lipstick. “There’s always a Joker,” she wrote in the caption. Although she did not clarify the song’s title, it appears to be titled “The Joker.

If you’re gonna have someone like Lady Gaga star in your movie, it only makes sense to have her contribute, in some way, to the soundtrack. Indeed, when she did A Star is Born, Gaga received a Best Actress Oscar nomination, but she also won the award for her contribution to the soundtrack, “Shallow.” While Joker: Folie a Deux is being called a jukebox musical, in that most of the songs are covers of already existing tracks, Gaga has nonetheless recorded a ton of music inspired by the film and the character she plays (Harleen “Lee” Quinzel aka Harley Quinn), and now has announced a companion album called Harlequin, which is a pretty apropos title.
The singer made the announcement via Instagram.

Lady Gaga’s next album, Harlequin, will be a companion to Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie À Deux, which hits theaters Oct. 4.
The album will arrive Friday, Sept. 27. Gaga had been teasing her next album, LG7, for a while, and she dropped hints about the project along with her press schedule at Venice Film Festival. That could still be a separate album, as the first single for that work will arrive at some point in October after the film and ‘Harlequin’ have released.
Before she posted the album cover, which features Gaga with an inflatable live vest beneath a running shower head, Gaga posted five slides that tipped her followers off as to an announcement coming.
Written on the slides are “Still Not October,” “Moondust Gets Everywhere,” “No Ducttape No Mission,” “Don’t Tell Me What To Wear” and “I’m Ready For My Interview.” She also recently released “Die With...

That’s life! Lady Gaga will drop Harlequin, a companion album to Joker: Folie à Deux, out Sept. 27.
Harlequin will contain jazz standards like “Oh, When the Saints” (made famous by Louis Armstrong) and “Get Happy” (Judy Garland), and marks her first jazz release since the death of her collaborator Tony Bennett (the duo released 2014’s Cheek to Cheek and 2021’s Love for Sale). Sérgio Mendes, the pianist who gifted the world with the most famous version of the Brazilian classic “Mas Que Nada,” died on Thursday. Born in 1941, Mendes was a 20-year-old musician when he first arrived in the U.S. to perform at a historic Carnegie Hall concert that brought many bossa nova legends to New York in 1962. Two years after the show, Mendes moved to Los Angeles and never left the U.S. He also never abandoned Brazilian music, becoming one of the most significant ambassadors of bossa nova and samba around the world.

A new 7-inch vinyl/CD box set collects Motörhead’s latter-era A-side and B-side singles, ranging from 1995 through 2006.
Dubbed We Take No Prisoners: The Singles: 1995 – 2006, the set will arrive on vinyl (nine 7-inch vinyl discs) and as a 2-cd box set, both out October 25th. The track “Shut Your Mouth,” from the band’s 2002 album Hammered, was chosen as the lead single for the collection.
The box set is especially notable for collectors. As mentioned in the band’s press release, 7-inch singles were a dominant format up until the ’90s, when CDs took over. Many of these tracks were released as CD singles at the time, before becoming sought-after collectibles. Not only does this box set return them to print, but most are receiving their first-ever release on 7-inch vinyl.
Among the notable inclusions is Motörhead’s cover of the Sex Pistols “God Save The Queen,” concert favorite and box set lead track “Sacrifice,...

Shot between his directing Alicia Vikander in “Firebrand” and Kristen Stewart in “Rosebushpruning,” “Motel Destino,” which bows in Cannes Competition on May 22, can be seen as a return by Brazil’s now most international director to his Brazilian roots.
This axis between international and local, plays out in “Motel Destino” and Aïnouz insists, in now his whole career.
An erotic thriller, “Motel Destino” turns on Dayana, the young wife of a roadside sex hotel owner who seduces on-the-run minor mobster Heraldo for great sex. But she soon conceives the idea of his helping her to kill her terrifyingly abusive older husband.
“I was really interested in a kind of Brazilian interpretation of melodrama and noir cinema, how to take genre, which begins in Hollywood, and appropriate it make it local and ours,” Aïnouz tells Variety.
“Motel Destino” is melodrama “in the sense these characters that are trying to survive, by any means.

Asian cinema is under a global spotlight right now. Thanks to the success of movies like Parasite and the rising profile of Asian actors and TV shows, east Asian productions are surging in popularity with mainstream and arthouse audiences alike. While recent hits such as Past Lives and Tainted Love are garnering plenty of attention, and we eagerly wait for Lulu Wang’s Expats to drop, here are four seriously underrated East Asian movies to check out in 2024.
Breathless (2009)

Directed by and featuring Yang Ik-june in a lead role, 2009’s Breathless is a great example of Korean cinema that’s very much a hidden gem. Lady Gaga returned to Las Vegas Thursday night to resume her “Lady Gaga: Jazz & Piano” residency, where she honoured her late friend, Tony Bennett.
The show, which includes classic jazz songs and stripped-down renditions of Gaga’s hits, marked the superstar’s first concert since Bennett, her frequent collaborator and mentor, died in late July. With that being said, Gaga paid a special tribute to the jazz icon.
In footage captured by attendees, the Grammy-winner, 37, gave a shoutout to Bennett’s wife, Susan Benedetto, who was reportedly in the audience, before dedicating a song to her.
“Susan, everybody in this audience loves you so much,” Gaga began. “The truth is I didn’t know exactly what to say about Tony because this whole show was for Tony, everything. The opening number, the middle numbers, all the diamonds, all the musical instruments, all the conducting, all the improvisation was in his memory.

Karim Aïnouz’s “Motel Destino,” which began filming last week, has eroticism, a recurring element in his films, as the backdrop. The Match Factory is selling the international rights.
His eighth fiction feature marks a return to the director’s Brazilian roots after having shot his first English-language production, “Firebrand,” starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, which played in competition at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Aïnouz won the Un Certain Regard prize at Cannes in 2019 for “Invisible Life.”
“Motel Destino” is an “intimate picture of a youth whose future has been stolen by a toxic and oppressive elite, against which rebellion and violence are often the only possible way out,” according to a press statement.

Olivia Rodrigo is back with “Vampire,” the lead single off her sophomore album, the highly-anticipated “Guts.” The song has proven to be yet another hit for her, debuting at number-one on the Spotify charts and poised to do the same on the Billboard Hot 100. With such immediate success come questions about how the song will perform at the Grammys, especially coming after Rodrigo’s three wins at the 2022 event. While it might be too early to declare “Vampire” a general field competitor, there’s one category where the song might already have a path to victory: Best Pop Solo Performance. Rodrigo previously won that category for her smash single “Drivers License.” So how does that affect her chances at a nomination and perhaps a win?

Previously best known as the band leader for Stephen Colbert‘s “Late Show,” musician Jon Batiste had an explosive couple of years in 2021 and 2022, taking home an Oscar and then five Grammys. Now he has announced his follow-up album, “World Music Radio,” set to be released on August 18. Along with the announcement, Batiste released the new single “Calling Your Name” as a preview of things to come. Watch the visualizer for the single above.
Batiste said in a statement, “I created this album with a feeling of liberation in my life and a renewed sense of exploration of my personhood, my craft and of the world around me unlike anything I had ever felt before.” It’s no wonder he’s feeling creatively liberated after being feted by his industry peers. In April of 2021 he received the Oscar for Best Original Score, shared with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, for the Pixar animated film “Soul.

A mainstay in the Un Certain Regard section (with a whopping four films as director/writer) and has sprinkled his films in Venice and Berlinale as well, Brazilian filmmaker Karim Aïnouz finally graduated to the competition section with a film that is very far removed from his native country. Firebrand follows the likes of Madame Satã (2002), O Céu de Suely (2006), and section winner A Vida Invisível de Eurídice Gusmão. He was also included as a Special Screening status for Mariner Of The Mountains in 2021.

Gabrielle Tana’s Brouhaha Entertainment has released the first-look photo of the Ex Machina star in costume for Brazilian helmer Karim Ainouz’s first English-language film. See it below.
Alicia Vikander plays opposite Jude Law, who plays a scheming Henry VIII. Our exclusive photo shows Vikander with the ladies of her bedchamber, who are played by Ruby Bentall (Poldark), Bryony Hannah (Call The Midwife) and Maia Jemmett.
Images of Law as the much-married Tudor king are being kept under wraps at Ainouz’s behest until the movie has screened in competition in Cannes.
A screening date hasn’t been officially set yet but it’s strongly rumoured that Firebrand will premiere at the Palais des Festivals on Sunday, May 21. FilmNation will be shopping on the Croisette.

To date, singer and songwriter Lady Gaga has won 13 Grammys out of 36 nominations. And she achieved a rare feat of being nominated for Album of the Year for three consecutive years: for “The Fame” (2010), “The Fame Monster” (2011) and “Born This Way” (2012). She hasn’t won that top prize yet, though. She has also made a big impact at the MTV Video Music Awards, where “Bad Romance” won seven times in 2010 including Video of the Year; it’s the second most awarded video of all time, behind only Peter Gabriel‘s “Sledgehammer.”
She transitioned to acting too. That’s usually a risky venture for a musician, but it paid off for Gaga. In 2016 she won a Golden Globe for Best TV Movie/Limited Actress for “American Horror Story: Hotel.” But her biggest success was yet to come. When she co-starred in a 2018 remake of the classic musical “A Star is Born,...

Ask any pop music fan to tell you who the biggest artists of the year are, and their answers will likely include R&b-superstar Sza and pop icon Taylor Swift. Both Swift and Sza are having amazing years, repping the success of their late-2022-released albums “Sos” and “Midnights,” respectively. Big success often translates to some sort of Grammy recognition. As such, and with no other true front-runner this season so far, let’s consider the idea that either Swift or Sza will end up taking the Grammy for Album of the Year.
There’s good reason to believe both of these ladies are front-runners. On Swift’s side, it’s clear that the Grammys really respect her, as she’s the only woman to win Album of the Year three times. On top of that, virtually every album she releases gets acknowledged in one way or another. Additionally, “Midnights...

Grammys 2023: Could Robert Plant and Alison Krauss win Album of the Year again for ‘Raise the Roof’?
If you skim through Album of the Year winners at the Grammys, one that you might be less familiar with is “Raising Sand,” the collaboration project between bluegrass artist Alison Krauss and rock veteran Robert Plant. With a unique take on standards, the album became an industry favorite and a critical success. Overall it swept the Grammys, winning six times over two years, including Album and Record of the Year. Now, 15 years after “Raising Sand’s” release, the duo is back in Grammy consideration with their follow-up record, “Raise the Roof.” But the question is, will the duo be a heavy hitter again at the Grammys 2023?
SEEBillboard Hot 100: Every #1 song of 2022
First things first, let’s consider what made “Raising Sand” such a success. Back then Krauss was already a Grammy darling and the most awarded woman ever (a title she held until 2021). Plant, on the other hand, was somewhat under-rewarded,...

Tony Bennett has been part of the pop cultural landscape for over seven decades. The 96-year-old scored his first hit song, “Because of You,” in 1951, the year he made his first TV appearances on a long-forgotten variety series “Star of the Family.” He recorded his signature tune, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ in 1962. Other hits included “Rags to Riches,” which Martin Scorsese used brilliantly on the soundtrack of his 1990 masterpiece “Goodfellas” and the Oscar-winning “The Shadow of Your Smile” from 1965’s “The Sandpiper.”
Unlike the crooners Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, movie success eluded Bennett. Just check out his film debut in the overstuff 1966 turkey “The Oscar.” His career waned. Rock was hot and Bennett wasn’t. He stopped recording in the late 1970s and was in lot of debt. He turned to drugs but a near death drowning experience in his bathtub changed his life and lifestyle.

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards (CBS)
The Trevor Noah-hosted celebration of music aired April 3 (more recently than any rival), featured performances from winners Silk Sonic and Olivia Rodrigo, and landed five Emmy nominations (tied for category best). But only the 2021 Grammys telecast attracted fewer viewers, and no Grammys telecast has ever won this award.
The Tony Awards Present: Broadway’s Back! (CBS)
This commemoration of Broadway’s rebound from Covid aired in September (another Tonys has aired since), was hosted by Tony winners Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr. and featured musical performances and award presentations. But with just two noms, it’s tied for a category low, and a Tonys telecast hasn’t won this prize since 2017.

Karim Aïnouz’s essay on his own family history takes him from Brazil to north Africa to discover his father’s country
Karim Aïnouz, best known for mostly Brazil-set dramatic features such as Invisible Life, Love for Sale and the evocatively titled I Travel Because I Have to, I Come Back Because I Love You, is truly an international film-maker. The 2022 Grammys were quite star-packed, with winners ranging from pop sensations Olivia Rodrigo and Doja Cat to country music superstar Chris Stapleton. However, the final award of the night was a surprise to many when Lenny Kravitz announced that the winner of Album of the Year was none other than Jon Batiste for his eclectic album “We Are.” You might remember Batiste’s name as the top nominee this year, earning an impressive set of 11 nominations including Record and Album of the Year. So Batiste’s win might have come out of nowhere to many people, but if you dig deeper, it’s actually not too hard to explain.
The first thing that Batiste had as an advantage was his cross-genre appeal. His 11 nominations were spread across many different fields. From jazz to classical music to R&b and even American roots, Batiste was known and embraced by peers from multiple genres,...

Lady Gaga isn't the only fashion star in her family. At the 2022 Grammy Awards on April 3, the "Love For Sale" singer served up several old Hollywood glamour looks, including one designed by her sister Natali Germanotta. After scooping up her 13th Grammy for her Best Traditional Pop Vocal album for her second collaboration with Tony Bennett, Gaga posed for photos in a custom dyed, mint green satin silk velvet gown from her sister's Topo Studio design house. It also featured a hand-ruched heart bodice and hand-stoned feathered capelet. She shared her appreciation on Instagram the day after the big event, writing, "thank you to @topostudiony...

It finally happened, folks: Lady Gaga and Lil Nas X met in person for the first time. The music icons crossed paths at the Grammys on April 3, and photographers were nearby to capture footage of their wholesome interaction. After locking eyes and sharing a sweet hug, the singers snapped a few selfies together and chitchatted during a commercial break. Is it possible they were discussing a potential Mother Monster and Montero collaboration?
Both stars performed on stage during the ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas - Lil Nas X reunited with Jack Harlow to sing "Dead Right Now" and "Industry Baby," while Gaga delivered a jazzy rendition of her songs "Love For Sale" and "Do I Love You." Somewhat surprisingly, this was the first time they've been in the same room together that we know of, despite earning nominations at several of the same award shows in the past.

Lady Gaga swooped in to make sure Sza looked picture-perfect on stage while accepting her first-ever Grammy. The "Stupid Love" singer fixed the train of Sza's long floral dress as she climbed the steps on crutches at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to receive the award for best pop duo/group performance alongside Doja Cat. Gaga and Tony Bennett's "I Get a Kick Out of You" was also nominated for the accolade, but it didn't seem to phase Gaga one bit that she lost to Sza as she fluffed her tulle gown and beamed from ear to ear. Queens supporting queens - we love to see it.
Although Sza walked the Grammys red carpet without any assistance, she had crutches on hand during the award show and used them to get from her seat to the podium.

At the end of a Grammy night full of close races and big surprises, Jon Batiste achieved one of the biggest upsets, claiming Album of the Year for “We Are.” We had ranked him fifth in our racetrack odds behind Billie Eilish (“Happier Than Ever”), Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga (“Love for Sale“), Olivia Rodrigo (“Sour”), and H.E.R. (“Back of My Mind”). In hindsight it seems silly to be surprised since he came in with the most overall nominations (11), but in claiming top honors he becomes the first Black artist to win the category in 14 years.

It may be surprising that Black artists have had such a long Album of the Year drought given the nominations for musicians like Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, Lil Nas X, H.E.R., The Weeknd, Childish Gambino, Rihanna, and Frank Ocean, just to name a few from the past decade.
