The film cast includes two Oscar winners: Mary Steenburgen and Marcia Gay Harden; and five Oscar nominees: Piper Laurie, Toni Collette, Josh Brolin, James Franco and Bruce Davison.
In segment one, "The Stranger", Piper Laurie played the same type of verbally abusive mother that she portrayed in the original Carrie (1976) 30 years earlier. In both movies, she throws a drink in her daughter's face.
The dead girl that the film centers on is played by Brittany Murphy, who died 3 years later, at age 32.
When Krista (Brittany Murphy) is making a telephone call near the end of the movie, there's a missing child flyer in the phone booth for Leah's (Rose Byrne) missing sister.
