- J.R. Ewing: Well, I got to hand it to Sue Ellen. Never in the world would I have thought of that man.
- Dan Marsh: Shall we continue or surveillance?
- J.R. Ewing: Yes... I suppose it's time we do something... about old Cliff Barnes...
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Cliff, maybe I won't need you after tomorrow... but tonight I need you... I really need you.
- Cliff Barnes: Look, I can't explain it. J.R. just pushes certain buttons and mayby I got to learn to play the other man's game.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: So that's what it is, just a game?
- Cliff Barnes: No.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: The winner takes the marbles and goes home. Is that what I am, just the marbles?
- Kristin Shepard: [Sue Ellen's teenaged sister sashays down the stairs wearing short shorts] Well, hi there, J.R.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, hi there yourself, honey.
- Kristin Shepard: Grown since you last saw me, haven't I?
- J.R. Ewing: Yeah. Yeah, you have.
- Kristin Shepard: Think I look like Sue Ellen? Most people don't.
- J.R. Ewing: [eyeing her posterior as she seductively and symbolically selects a piece of fruit from a bowl] There's a resemblance, that's for sure.
- J.R. Ewing: Say, Bobby, Sue Ellen home?
- Bobby Ewing: No, J.R., she left. With a couple of suitcases.
- J.R. Ewing: I see. Well, I guess she's planning on staying at her mother's longer than I thought.
- Bobby Ewing: She told me she was leaving you, J.R.
- J.R. Ewing: That a fact? Just came out and said she was leaving, did she?
- Bobby Ewing: No. No, I asked her. I thought maybe I could help.
- J.R. Ewing: Whatever gave you the idea we needed any help?
- Bobby Ewing: The fact that she's leaving you! She also told me to ask you about the baby. Now why would Sue Ellen's having a baby force you two apart?
- J.R. Ewing: Now, Bobby, let's get something straight. If I ever need your help, I'll ask for it. Truly I will. Now, you take care of your wife and I'll handle mine.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: Are you going to let J.R. beat you again? Are you going to let him raise my baby?
- Cliff Barnes: No. I want you. I want the baby. But I don't want you to use me to beat J.R.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: I wouldn't do that.
- Cliff Barnes: You're gonna have to start thinking how you can live without all that Ewing money, without Southfork, without all the things you've become accustomed to, because I'm a looong way from that world.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: I can try. As long as I know you need me and want me, I can try.
- Cliff Barnes: All right. We can try together.
- Pamela Barnes Ewing: [bawling out Cliff] You're not playing around with J.R.'s secretary. It's his wife! And if he finds out he'll ruin you, and I don't think I'd blame him!
- J.R. Ewing: I know what makes you tick, Barnes. I know what you need. You need power. You want to be a senator or governor. You want to be appointed to some fancy office. Of course, you found out in the last election anyone involved in scandal can't get elected dog catcher.
- J.R. Ewing: I'm willing to overlook your affair with Cliff Barnes.
- Sue Ellen Ewing: So, you know about it? And you're willing to overlook it? Well, I am not willing to overlook your affairs.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, I don't think you have a choice, honey. Now, if I have to, I'll have a couple of the boys take you down to a hospital I know. When you come out of there, you'll be without child. And everybody will call it just one of those unfortunate miscarriages. And on top of that, I'll add one of the messiest divorces you've ever seen. And you'll come out of that without one penny and no Ewing name.
- [last lines]
- Cliff Barnes: Maxwell?
- Ben Maxwell: Yes.
- Cliff Barnes: You want your development? You've got it. You've got anything you want. You just get me that appointment. And that's for starters. You get me enough power, and you've got anything you want.
- [hangs up phone, says to himself]
- Cliff Barnes: How's that for playing the game?
- Mrs. Shepard: My fondest hope for her... is that she'll be just as fortunate in her choice of husbands... as Sue Ellen was.
- J.R. Ewing: Oh, I don't think you're going to have the slightest trouble.
- Kristin Shepard: [eating apple] I don't think so, either.
- Kristin Shepard: You mean, you're leaving him just because he cheated on you?
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [indignantly] And that doesn't bother you?
- Kristin Shepard: Not if I had what you've got.
