Glee actor Mark Salling, who played football-star-turned-singer Noah Puckerman on the show, has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges stemming from a 2015 arrest, BuzzFeed reports. Salling said he is "pleading guilty because I am guilty of the charges."
With the plea deal, Salling will serve between four and seven years in jail, avoiding what could have been a 20-year sentence and a lifetime of supervised parole. Salling will also register as a sex offender, participate in counseling and spend 20 years under supervised release, during which his Internet use will be monitored and controlled.

Christian Petzold's The State I Am In (2000) and Christoph Hochhäusler's The City Below (2010) will be showing in September and October, 2017 on Mubi in most countries around the world.Christian Petzold (left) and Christoph Hochhäusler (right) on the set of Dreileben. Photo by Felix von Böhm.We meet in Christian Petzold’s office in Berlin-Kreuzberg. A giant wall of whispering books, almost like a Borgesian brain of fiction, encircles the table at which Christoph Hochhäusler, myself and the owner take place to discuss their films. The idea of the interview was to get Petzold’s take on Hochhäusler’s The City Below (2010) and Hochhäusler’s take on Petzold’s The State I Am In (2000). In the end, both filmmakers ended up talking about a lot more, as cinema for them has always been something that shines most brightly when remembering it, discussing it and loving it. The fictions proposed...

See previous post: “Comedy Actress Rediscovered: 'She Could Be Chaplin!' Q&A with Film Historian Anthony Slide.” Could forgotten comedy actress really have been Chaplin? The title of your Alice Howell book is She Could Be Chaplin! Could she really have been that big and influential? If so, why didn't that happen? Perhaps I am guilty of a certain amount of hyperbole. The publisher and I were trying to come up with a good title for the book. We selected that title in part out of a belief that Chaplin's name on the cover would sell the book. But equally because throughout her career Alice Howell was described as a female Chaplin. Consistently film reviewers and writers compared her work to that of Chaplin. Personally I don't believe she was in any way influenced by Chaplin, but there is definitely a similarity during the early years of both their...

The level of public consciousness about the barriers faced by female filmmakers is higher than it has ever been. Despite this, the discussion more often than not centres around North America and to a lesser extent, Europe, Australia and New Zealand (and I am guilty as charged). This is perfectly understandable, but clearly women do make films outside of these countries, and it can be illuminating to consider how their experiences reflect or differ from those with which we are more familiar. To this end, the arrival of a new book, "The Celluloid Ceiling," could not be more timely. Edited by Gabrielle Kelly and Cheryl Robson, it takes a purposefully global overview of the status quo and in doing so provides some fascinating stories and insights, reminding us of what is lost when we limit the discussion to Anglophone directors. While there can be no substitute to reading the book...

Another John Carpenter film receiving the collector’s edition treatment courtesy of Scream Factory, means that I’m going to mention yet again, that in the year 2012, we conducted a year long retrospective series, examining Carpenter’s career in chronological order. If you missed out on the first run of this series, you can play catch up by following this link. Don’t get me wrong, Scream Factory does a fantastic job at supplying extra features on their discs, but this would make the perfect companion piece to any new release Carpenter Blu-rays you decide to pick up. It’s not just movie reviews, it’s an examination of his career as a whole. That being said, Body Bags is one of my least favorite Carpenter films. Most of the time, though, even the few bad Carpenter films have some redeeming qualities, and Body Bags is no exception to that rule.

I know I am guilty of throwing on some variation of this outfit constantly.
But there was one mom in particular who stood out to me. I wouldn't say she caught my attention because she was model gorgeous or anything like that. I would describe her as striking though.

Romain Dauriac, your Facebook history is safe. "I'm not the jealous type who does background checks," his new fiancée Scarlett Johansson told reporters at Tuesday's premiere of her new movie Don Jon at the Toronto International Film Festival. "I'm not that type of girlfriend." Johansson, 28, rocked the red carpet in a little black dress and flashed her engagement ring from the French journalist. In her new movie, the Avengers star plays a demanding, gum-snapping Jersey girl who tries to change her new boyfriend's (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) personality. "I am guilty of this, and so are many people - you just want...

Being a movie nerd is fraught with perils wide and plentiful. You wouldn’t think so, but really it’s just a minefield of things waiting to ruin you. Sure, you say, it’s just a hobby, you say. They’re just films, you’ll find yourself proclaiming. It’s just what you like, and you’re exercising your right to enjoy this pastime. But being a nerd is more than that, and we all know that. It’s a way of life. It consumes you, it takes you over, and ultimately it leaves you twisting in the wind like a pissed seaside donkey (like then, where I managed to incorporate a quote from a film not many people have seen). It takes you over like the unexplained virus in Dawn of the Dead. That’s enough with the iffy comparisons.
Ultimately, yes, being a movie nerd will ruin your life.

Last week, Stephen Amell warned us that the penultimate episode of "Arrow"would feel like a season finale -- so much so, that he was worried fans might not know to tune in next week. Somehow, we don't think that'll be a problem. We're going to be in front of our TV ten minutes early so we don't miss a single second of his "My name is Oliver Queen" intro next week.
Tonight's episode, "Darkness on the Edge of Town," was a game changer in a lot of ways. It touched on just about every aspect of Oliver's life, from romance, to friendship, to rivalry, to family, ultimately leaving us dangling from a terribly mean cliffhanger in the final seconds.
So let's discuss!

Mindy Kaling flexed her star-studded rolodex again this week, as Seth Myers guest-starred as a possible love interest for The Mindy Project's title character.
"Hiring and Firing" featured the same brand of witty pop culture references and dialogue that made the series premiere so likeable, but the clear tone of the show has yet to be solidified, considering the storyline here teetered on the edge of absurd at times.
The line about not standing next to someone you know after running into them on the subway was spot on, but her audible narrating would have had me looking to get off at the next stop, just like it did Danny. People talking loudly to themselves on the train is nothing new to New Yorkers, but Mindy doing so was a not-so-interesting brand of crazy.
The writing rebounded, though, as Mindy recounted how she met a new man (Myers) while in a bookstore.

Shuffle and Stories is an attempt to get a more personal look on why we feel the way we do about music. Music is like art, subjective, and that means that everyone has a different way at looking at one album or band. Every week I’ll pick from one of ten songs when my library is on shuffle and talk about the music but also talk about why I personally like it or tell any personal stories regarding the music.
From the beginning thought processes of doing Shuffle and Stories I had it in my mind that I was going to try my hardest to not talk about video game music. This wasn’t because I saw video game music as something different from non-video game music, far from it if anything, but instead it was because if this truly was going to be based on the idea of...

This year the Grégoire Melin’s Kinology can do no wrong – they nabbed the best real-estate on the Croisette and reminded us that Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers will surely be much talked about upon release and they’re sprinkled out a little bit everywhere else on the Croisette from the Main Comp with Cosmopolis, the Directors’ Fortnight with opening film from Gondry (The We and the I) and a Special Screening status in the Critics’ Week for Alice Winocour’s debut, Augustine (see pic of actress Soko above). Here is the other European titles they have in store.

Inspired by Ava's heroic completion of her own 10K run, I pledge to finish my review of tonight's episode, "Hey Jealousy," no matter how ugly I look!
Reagan and Chris have set an amazing pace of laughter all season long, but this evening - as we continued to near the finish line of Up all Night's inaugural season - they showed us that they still have plenty of gas in the tank and miles to before they sleep.
Ava and Shayna looked like they were hurting pretty bad at the race's starting line, nursing hangovers from their late night party with the silver fox asian men. After reading a Tweet from Christina Applegate, though, about how my new favorite comedy has yet to secure a second season, I felt way worse.

So Hollywood, this is what it's come to: a teaser commercial for the first trailer to the remake of Total Recall. And I am guilty of covering it.
If you're just being made aware of this movie, yes, there is a remake of Total Recall. It stars Colin Farrell in the Arnold Schwarzenegger role, Kate Beckinsale in the bad girl/Sharon Stone role and Jessical Biel in the good girl role. However, the new Total Recall isn't set on Mars; instead, it's set about 50 years in the future where there's flying cars and holographic stuff floating in front of your face.
Yeah, I sound disinterested in the new Total Recall because I just don't see the creative reason for it. The business reasons? Sure; the title is well known and is going to get people interested in checking the film out.
The trailer will be broadcast for the first time this coming Sunday,...

Disney has released a fun action-packed film clip from their upcoming sci-fi adventure John Carter. The movie has been getting a lot of positive reviews, more than I was expecting. So that's good news for Disney! It's sounding like this movie is going to surprise a lot of fanboys and fangirls with negative attitudes, which I admit I am guilty of. The footage and trailers I've seen just weren't connecting with me like I hoped it would. I'm still looking forward to seeing it though, and I'm hoping for the best.
The clips features a scene in which John Carter is in a high chase flying pursuit, weaving in and out of some huge CGI obstacles. The film will be released in theaters this week on March 9th, 2012. Watch the clip below and let us know if you think it will live up to your expectations.

(Bad Fever opens in New York City at the reRun Gastropub beginning Friday, January 3, 2011. It world premiered at the 2011 SXSW Film Festival and is being distributed by Factory 25. Visit the film’s official website to learn more.)
For those viewers with a deep-seated fondness for the character-based New Hollywood dramas that were churned out in the 1970s, Dustin Guy Defa’s Bad Fever will feel like a welcome return to that glorious past (I should know, as I am guilty of said deep-seated fondness). From the spare opening title card—complete with a copyright tag at the bottom!—to its placing of atmosphere and character firmly in the foreground, Bad Fever recalls films from the past more than it does those it brushed up alongside in film festival programs over the course of the past year. Yet, to be clear, Bad Fever isn’t some hip exercise in retro coolness.

It's the time of year where we learn the fate of our favorite shows and we get a glimpse into what pilots the networks are picking up for fall. I have always been amazed why certain shows like Jersey Shore receive a renewal, when others like Community sit in the wings.
It all comes down to the viewers themselves and an archaic ratings system (but I'm not going to go there.) Today, I'm going to discuss television viewers and the categories we all fit into. There are so many different types of viewers, I'm going to look at view specific "types," but feel free to add your own in the comments.
First, we have the "shipper" -- that is, someone who is desperate for a certain couple to get together, remain together, etc. These people are in it for the long haul. They love their specific couple and want anyone...

The word “Finale” — spelled out in all caps using pure molten lava — bubbled and exploded across a giant electronic screen. A lithe young woman in a red-and-white striped, fur-trimmed bathing suit writhed seductively inside an oversized snow globe. And Melanie Amaro, Chris Rene, and Josh Krajcik were reduced to blubbering, carol-singing wrecks.

Clarkson Injunction Lifted
British TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson has lifted an injunction he took out last year in a bid to keep his ex-wife from going public with secrets about his private life.
The Top Gear host applied for the gagging order against Alexandra Hall, who he was married to for a year in 1989, to prevent her from writing about their relationship.
Hall alleges they continued a sexual affair during his marriage to current wife Frances.
On Wednesday, Clarkson applied to London's High Court to have the ban lifted and admits he is relieved the order has been withdrawn.
He says, "Injunctions don't work, they are pointless. If you have one, everyone on Twitter and the internet knows you've got it. But because I am bound by the same order, I can't speak about it or defend myself. There is an assumption that I am guilty because I can't say anything. My wife and I decided to let it go. My ex-wife is now free to tell her story and people can either believe it or not, it's up to them."
Hall is now hoping to tell her side of the story, adding, "I just want the truth to come out. It feels like a huge cloud has been lifted from above me."...

After wrapping production on Marvel Studios’ gargantuan summer tent-pole The Avengers, writer-producer Joss Whedon was supposed to go on a month-long vacation with his wife, Kai Cole. Instead, Whedon tells EW exclusively that his wife suggested he finally make the feature film version of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing he’d been ruminating over for years.
And so he did — adapting the script, casting the film with Whedonverse alums like Nathan Fillion, Amy Acker (Angel), Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel), and Sean Maher (Firefly), and shooting the self-funded, black-and-white indie in secret over 12 days at his Santa Monica, Calif.
