Yuri mi verdadera historia

This is an autobiographical movie about the Mexican pop singer Yuri which achieved many hits in Latin America in the 80's and 90's. This movie shows her story from her starts as a little girl that sang in her native Veracruz, through her difficult struggle to make a name in Mexico City, until her marriage with her current husband Rodrigo Espinoza and her conversion to Christianism. The movie is based on flashbacks and switches from present to past back and forth.

The movie has some dramatic scenes that really impact the viewer of how she suffered with her overprotective mom, her failures in love, her brush with addictions and the loneliness that comes hand to hand with fame. These scenes are supposedly based on her reality, but I've known people that worked with Yuri in the 80's and 90's and they have told me that the movie shows just a very little part of all the problems Yuri had in those days.

The movie features an excellent performance by Norma Herrera (as Yuri's overprotective neurotic mother) which for me is the best thing of this movie. It is also important to mention that Yuri and Rodrigo (her husband) play themselves in the movie. Its a low budget Mexican movie but If you like Yuri and you want to know what was really going on behind her success and the reasons why she converted into Christianism you will like this movie.
