I saw it for the first time by mistake, at the Brussels Film Festival and later at the Sao Paulo International Film Festival. Victor Caesar Botta's directing debut, is a very cool dark underground short film, with almost no dialog, great photograph and art direction, the sound effects with the abstract images makes the story. The story is a bit fast and in the air, making a little difficult to understand if you are not expecting this type of story, by the time it gets to the end when things get more clear you wished you had given more attention to the details in the beginning, the ballet sequence is great and shot beautifully, the end is kind of predictable until you realize you didn't know and images used are so amazing and disturbing that it alone is a reason to go watch it. With music from Erik Satie to Nine Inch Nails, Ballet to Bondage and shot in Black and White "Freeman" is like a trip of contrasts. For me it felt like something between Hitchcock and Nine Inch Nails music video with a sexy twist. If it plays close to you or if you can get a copy, it's a must see.
