Dear I.V.Sasi, I watched this film only because of Rani Padmini. The murdered film actress who plays Ratish's wife. She dies in your film too.
Thushaaram started off well enough. A murder mystery with the Indian army in Kashmir as the background that branches off into an action film. The action scenes were very good for a film of the 1980s. Hope the stuntman was not injured in the scene where he fell off the bike. The background score was interesting enough. You did overuse it at some points. But a lot happens in the first 30 minutes. I was quite entertained. And there was no patriotic crap too.
There was even a reference to the Hitchcock film, Frenzy. I always knew you were quite clued in to World cinema.
But the film fell apart completely in the second half. The Kashmiri Khan character was too loud. And Rathish is an awful actor. I have always wondered why he was such a big star in the 1980s. Lalu Alex or Johny, who were in the supporting cast would have done a better job as the lead.
The film was made in a time when we did not worry too much about what the West thought about us. So it does give a free reign to all the misogynistic characters. In fact both the hero and villain did not think twice before using each other's women to settle scores.
Anyway, the film had a lot of potential. But you were not at your best. Balan.K.Nair and Seema's English dialogs were also contrived.
I think you ought to remake this with Fahadh Fazil and Mammooty.
Best Regards Pimpin.
