Having carved his niche as a bonafide action star over a multi-decade career, Jason Statham needs no introduction in the entertainment industry. With blockbuster hits like The Meg and The Expendables franchise under his belt, the actor has reportedly become one of the wealthiest British talents in Hollywood.

Several years ago, I spent a weekend at Disneyland with a fellow Star Wars fan and heard all about her favorite TV show. She quoted the Jedi Master, told me how nice the actors were behind the scenes, and showed me wonderful fan art that she had done. Since I had yet to see a minute of Star Wars: Rebels, I watched the first three episodes before I had to catch the shuttle to the airport. And then I sporadically watched some of the series as the years went by.
Of course, things piqued my interest. I heard Timothy Zahn's thoughts on the inclusion of Thrawn when he came to FanX in Salt Lake City and I inevitably overheard a lot of spoilers in the lead-up to Ahsoka. With the 10th anniversary, here are some independent thoughts as a returning newcomer to the series.

Horror Afraid leads the new titles at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend, launching in 450 locations for Sony.
Directed by Chris Weitz, Afraid stars John Cho and Katherine Waterston as devoted parents who get selected to try a new smart home AI device. The device quickly becomes overprotective of the family and begins interfering in their lives.
It is the latest feature from horror juggernaut Blumhouse, this year’s titles of which include Imaginary (£2m) and Night Swim (£1.4m). The film will have stiff competition from Disney’s fellow horror Alien: Romulus which was up to £8.8m at the end of last weekend.

Mark Wahlberg was "really happy" to have signed up for 'Play Dirty'.The 53-year-old actor stars in the upcoming thriller film - which follows the revenge of a professional thief who is double-crossed and left for dead - that is directed by Shane Black and described the movie as being a mix between classic heist flick 'The Italian Job' and the 1995 thriller that starred Al Pacino. He told Collider: "For me, it's like ' The Italian Job' meets ' Heat'. It's got the action, it's got the high stakes, it's got the humor, it's got these great characters, the best Shane Black dialogue. I waited a long time to get a script like that. Any time we talked about, 'Okay, what's the kind of movie you wanna do as an actor if we're talking a big, giant commercial movie?' And ' Lethal Weapon' is always right there,...

Some actors are just born to play action stars, and Jason Statham is one of them. For the better part of the 2000s, the celebrity was responsible for the resurgence of the tough, no-holes barred action hero in films like The Transporter, The Italian Job, The Mechanic, and many more.

Thanks to his extensive martial arts training, these roles became second nature to him. Interestingly, Statham also had the opportunity to become a serious sportsman in Hollywood when he took up diving professionally. While the star even represented Britain as part of the national team, his greatest disappointment was narrowly missing the golden chance to participate at the Olympics.

Logan “Stan” Garner, a train coordinator for movie and TV productions who often played a train conductor on film, died May 20 in Arizona. He was 83.
Born in Pasadena, he lived in Southern California until moving to Arizona in 2007. Garner was a founding partner with Short Line Enterprises, where he restored and operated 19th century steam locomotives and passenger cars for museums and excursion trains.
After film and TV producers began requesting trains, the company created a movie railroad backlot, which was used for productions until the late 1980s. As owner of the Train Source, he became a sought-out train coordinator, assembling locomotives, providing passenger and freight cars, creating sets for train crossings, tracks and stations and providing personnel for TV productions.
He became a SAG member and was often cast as a train conductor or railroad worker in productions.
Garner worked on over 300 feature films, TV episodes, movies of the week and music videos.

Put on any action movie made between 1903’s The Great Train Robbery and 2017’s John Wick, pay attention to the risks playing out before you, and you’ll never stop asking why the hell aren’t stunt performers lauded for their efforts by the Academy Awards. In the 1970s, one of the greatest and most underrated decades for action movies, you could still see every danger to life and limb on screen. CGI wasn’t around yet, and the law was barely paying attention.
The result is an era where bloody martial arts imports and Blaxploitation commentary blended with tight-wire action and terrifyingly real stunts. The very best remain iconic, from the Dirty Harrys to 1979’s global phenomenon, Mad Max. But with the passage of time comes forgetting, and the ‘70s hide some of the best, wildest, and sometimes even edgiest movies waiting for fans to rediscover.

The 2003 feature was a massive departure from Theron’s usual flicks, as it saw her portray real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos. In an interview with Advocate, Theron remembered shopping the script around to see if others would’ve liked it as much as she did. Some couldn’t wait to see her in the movie. Others, however, were left confused.

When “The Color Purple” (Warner Bros.) opened on Christmas Day, it grossed over $18 million, fueled by marketing campaign that focused on group sales to attract its core audiene. Its total was $40 above what “Les Miserables” did on December 25, 2012 (its opening day) before it grossed nearly $150 million in the U.S./Canada.
Unfortunately for the musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s novel (and Steven Spielberg’s 1985 movie), the operation was a success but the patient did less well. Through three weeks of play, despite an A Cinemascore suggesting strong audience response, it has grossed only $58 million, barely three times its opening day. The recent weekend, its third, took in under $2 million after losing almost two-thirds of its theaters.
On Tuesday, after 22 days in theaters, it will become the first holiday release to reach home audiences on PVOD (at $19.99 to rent). Perhaps it can find greater success there.

Kevin Hart is back with another Netflix film but this time instead of a comedy we see him as a master thief. Directed by F. Gary Gray, the Netflix film Lift revolves around a group of thieves who join hands with Interpol to get immunity for their past crime, but to do that they have to steal half a billion dollars worth of gold from a flying airplane without being caught by the owner of the gold, who is surprise surprise the bad guy. Lift also stars Úrsula Corberó, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Worthington, Billy Magnussen, Kim Yoon-ji, Jean Reno, and Vincent D’Onofrio starring in supporting roles. So, if you loved Lift and all of its action here are some similar films you could watch next.

What’s Good: Not trying too hard to release this in theatres and giving us the option to skip it midway…
What’s Bad: …though I couldn’t skip the film midway because of the review, but you can
Loo Break: You don’t even have to pause the film; in fact, watch it for ten minutes and go on a break for 1 hour 30 minutes, and by the time you are back, this will be over
Watch or Not?: Lol! Would you still ask from whatever you’ve read till now?

Kevin Hart has a very lucrative proposition for you. The multi-hyphenate comedy star is in the market for a few recruits. Anyone interested in stealing about 500 million dollars’ worth of gold? No pressure.
In the new film from director F. Gary Gray, a band of expert criminals is recruited to prevent a terrorist attack by doing what they do best — robbing the rich. It’s a simple Lift, nothing complicated. Other than the fact that the heist will take place on a plane in mid-flight. Call it some unexpected turbulence.
For Hart, Lift was an opportunity to stretch his wings (pun intended) — it’s a more dramatic role than the comedy superstar is typically known for. “Taking on the role of an action hero and heist boss like Cyrus has been a non-stop thrill...

Twenty years after remaking The Italian Job as a slice of pleasant (if disposable) studio gloss, F. Gary Gray has gone ahead and remade it again for the age of Netflix streaming content. Which might be a nicer way of saying the streaming service’s new weekend release of Lift is another harmless, unthreatening time-filler intended to be watched with a second screen in your hand or folded laundry in your lap.
Once again revolving around an affable assemblage of movie stars (Kevin Hart subbing in for Mark Wahlberg as the miscast straight man) and character actors who compose a crew of thieves out “to do a job” in Venice, Lift is designed to faintly echo older, better movies you’ve seen before, including from the director’s own back catalog. It’s junk you’re expected to forget while the thing is still buffering.

Review: The entire plot of the Quibi/Roku series Die Hart hinges on Kevin Hart wanting to break out of comedy roles so he can be taken seriously as an action hero. While that plot was played for laughs, it was not the first time Hart tried something different. Both his films The Upside and Fatherhood, as well as the Netflix limited series True Story gave Hart more opportunities to channel his dramatic talents, but Lift is the comedian’s first project that is straight action without the reliance on his being the butt of the joke. Cast in a role commonly saved for Hart’s friends Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg, Lift is a big-budget...

Making his 4th Netflix Original Film in the last three years, actor/comedian/producer Kevin Hart is back on the platform with his latest venture, Lift, a heist-filled action “comedy” helmed by The Fate of the Furious director F. Gary Gray from a script by 12 Rounds writer Daniel Kunka.
Making good on his Netflix megadeal he signed in early 2021, Hart has now made three starring films under his HartBeat Productions banner after a pair of critically panned films, Me Time opposite Mark Wahlberg & The Man from Toronto alongside Woody Harrelson, dropped in 2022. Lift is also co-produced by The Batman director Matt Reeves’ company 6th & Idaho, which also has an overall deal with Netflix.

CinemaBlind’s Review – 70%
F. Gary Gray‘s latest Netflix heist film is coming tomorrow and for the people who are excited about film Lift, CinemaBlind is here to watch and judge the upcoming film in advance for you. Starring Kevin Hart in the leading role, the film revolves around a group of master thieves whom Interpol catches at the beginning of the film, but they are offered full immunity and in turn, they will have to pull off a seemingly impossible heist.
Lift is another one of Netflix’s blockbuster cinema like what they tried to do with Ryan Reynolds‘ 6 Underground and Red Notice, but the good thing here is that it is better than both of those films but it is also nowhere near the great heist film like Ocean’s Eleven or Gary Gray’s own The Italian Job.

After parodying his attempts to become an action-movie star in the Quibi/Roku short film series Die Hart (later compiled into a Amazon Prime feature), Kevin Hart goes for the gold in the genre and attempts to do the real thing in Lift, an absurdly ridiculous, over the top but still entertaining heist movie that strains credibility at every turn — but who cares because it’s got Hart.
The latest bloated Netflix star-driven action epic on the scale of Red Notice and The Gray Man, this one has our star as master art thief Cyrus Whitaker, whom we meet with his team trying to pull off one of their signature thefts at a Venice Italy auction house involving an Nft (just to keep this as contemporary as they come), leading to a wild boat chase all over the colorful canals but not ending well for the gang.

Lift’s Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart) is a master of the heist, a globe-trotting rapscallion who steals from the rich and gives to, well, other rapscallions. Director F. Gary Gray knows something about the subject. Over the course of his decades in show business, the Friday filmmaker has now made three heist films. In the ’90s landmark Set It Off, the target is banks in Los Angeles;in 2003’s slick remake The Italian Job, the loot is in Venice. And now there’s Lift, which takes robbery to a whole new level — 40,000 feet up in the air, to be exact.
“Since Set It Off and The Italian Job were made, criminal and law enforcement technology has improved significantly,” Gray tells Tudum. “In contrast to my earlier heist films in city settings, this heist in a massive plane at 40,000 feet introduces a whole new world of challenges.” Of course, Cyrus and...

As a new film spotlights her 60-year career, record-breaking background artist Jill Goldston discusses turning down Warren Beatty’s indecent proposal and hanging out with David Bowie
Jill Goldston has only recently moved into this airy flat, on the site of the old Teddington television studios in south-west London, but there are already two framed items on prominent display. One is her newly awarded Guinness World Records certificate for “The most appearances by an extra/background actress”. The other is the poster for Jill, Uncredited, the strangely moving documentary short that has brought her into focus at last. “I’ve had an amazing career,” Jill says, as she sits down at the dining room table, to tell her film industry fable over a cup of tea. “Self-indulgent, really – I was getting paid to have fun and I always found the people fascinating.”

"It's impossible." "It just hasn't been done before." Can they pull it off? Netflix has revealed the first trailer for a new heist action comedy called Lift, coming to Netflix to watch in January 2024 early next year. This trailer just debuted during a big NFL game, which means Netflix is trying to make this one of their next big hits. Does it really have that potential? An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker, race to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane while flying at 40,000 feet. It's from the same director as The Italian Job remake and Law Abiding Citizen, F. Gary Gray, so it might actually be pretty cool to see them pull this off. Kevin Hart stars as Cyrus, with Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D'Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Viveik Kalra, Yun Jee Kim, Burn Gorman, Paul Anderson, as well as Jean Reno and Sam Worthington.

Your mileage may vary on Kevin Hart as a movie star, and on Netflix's big-budget original movies. Both have a somewhat shaky track record, creatively speaking -- Hart has had his fair share of misses, and things like "The Gray Man," "Heart of Stone," and "Red Notice" haven't exactly inspired tons of confidence that Netflix's would-be blockbusters have much to offer. But Hart and the streamer are trying to change all of that by joining forces for "Lift," a new heist film which, to its credit, appears to be trying to elevate (ha!) its premise by centering on a band of thieves who attempt to steal $500 million in gold out of a passenger plane flying at 40,000 feet.
That's a fun if ridiculous idea, but hey, I'm a fan of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, so far be it from me to cast the first stone. This film has a...

Kevin Hart could be on cloud nine if he can pull off a high-flying heist operation in the first trailer for Netflix’s upcoming comedy-thriller Lift.
Landing on the streaming service on Jan. 12, F. Gary Gray’s feature centers on Cyrus Whitaker (Hart), the leader of an international heist team who gets enlisted to steal $500 million in gold from a mid-air passenger plane before the fortune ends up in the wrong hands. Lift co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Vincent D’Onofrio, Úrsula Corberó, Billy Magnussen, Jacob Batalon, Jean Reno and Sam Worthington.
The trailer shows Hart explaining the near-impossible task to his cohorts and warning that they’ll land in prison if they don’t succeed. “Half a billion in gold is on its way to a terrorist cell,” he says. “We gotta steal it mid-flight, 40,000 feet in the air.”

His final turn on screen is in Oliver Parker’s “The Great Escaper,” a biographical film about World War II veteran Bernard Jordan breaking out of a care home to attend the 70th anniversary commemoration of D-Day in 2014. The film was released on Oct. 6.
